Shakes And Shaken (Jaxon)

Post by Yasu (DELETED 6197) »

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--
* Jaxon slipped out of Whit's shop with a half-wave over his shoulder as he jogged down the sidewalk. He was a man on a mission. His messenger bag bounced on his hip as he dodged between people walking, ignoring the curses aimed his way. He finally pushed into a store with a grin and took a seat at his favorite booth in the diner. "Chocolate malt!" He called out to the familiar wait staff.
* Yasu shut the door to the dojo behind him, not really glancing back as he pad down the small flight of stairs and across the tiny parking lot, working his way home. As he walked, he adjusted the items in his bag. Still dressed in his Kendo uniform, the Kendogi and Hakama at least, the armored portions were likely tugged away in the plastic bag he carried. The shinai, bamboo blade, remained strapped at his side by a cloth belt. A hand ran over the back of his neck, eyes skimming the street until they caught sight of a familiar head of hair. Yasu paused, debating over a moment of conversation or heading straight home to change, finally leaning towards the former as he followed, catching the door just as it shut and slipping in. He came to a stand by the booth, a faint smle barely brushing his features. "Mind some company?"
* Jaxon looked up from the comic he'd fished out of his bag and spread open on the table. "Hey Jack! Have a seat." He nodded to the booth across from his own at the table. "A strawberry for Jack, too!" He hollered to the cook.
* Yasu unstrapped the weapon from his side, placing the bag on the seat before sliding in as well and laying the blade across his lap in a somewhat formal manner. "You remembered?" A touch of surprise crossed his features as if he hadn't expected Jaxon to actually remember his favorite flavor, then another brief smile. "Thanks..So how are you?"
* Jaxon closed the comic and set it aside on the table, flashing a half-smile and shrugging as the man settled down. He cast a curious look first at his clothing, and then at the weapon he'd brought with him. "I'm pretty good. Just taking a break. Was helping Whit unload boxes earlier, figured I earned a malt." He smiled as the drinks were delivered. "You just back from a work-out?"
* Yasu dipped his head in a nod in understanding, tugging his drink closer. "A class, actually. I normally teach evenings and weekends, but another sensei called in sick," he explained before taking a sip.
* Jaxon nodded himself, dipping his head to plant lips on the straw sticking up from the thick drink. He drew on it, sitting back with a satisfied sigh as the chocolate flavor filled his mouth. "I'll have to check it out sometime. Though... maybe a private lesson. I'm not the most coordinated." He winced.
* Yasu made a short, breathy sound. A laugh maybe? "I normally run the childrens and elderly classes, so I'm sure you'd fit in just fine, especially with the former," he mused, although his tone made it difficult to tell if the comment was a poke of humor or a simple observation.
* Jaxon snorted at the response, quirking his brow as he shook his head. "You're probably right. So long as I couldn't hurt one of them." He smirked and took another sip of his drink.
* Yasu scratched his cheek with his index finger thoughtfully, then sighed. "That's a lawsuit the dojo doesn't need," he murmured with a cringe. "Though some of the children in the class can be pretty formidible."
* Jaxon flashed a grin and shook his head. "I wouldn't hurt em. Maybe hurt myself." He admitted ruefully, shifting in his booth. "Sure I can't get a one-on-one lesson?" He asked with a hum.
* Yasu glanced back up from the table he'd been studying. "Well the dojo does offer a number of private lesson plans for those who require it, although I wouldn't ask for Anya.." A faint cringe. "I can't help but wonder how she even became a sensei."

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--

* Jaxon eyed the other uncertainly. "I'll have to remember that. Could request a lesson with Jack." He replied cheekily, poking his straw into a new spot in his drink. "I've never tried anything like that, though. Tried a defensive course, once."
* Yasu raised a brow briefly at his comment, stirring his straw absent-mindedly, his own drink hardly touched since the first sip. "I don't usually do private lessons, but.." he trailed off with a shrug. "Kendo can be a physically and mentally challenging activity, but it can be a lot of fun as well. It actually originated from the samurai art of Kenjutsu, the way of the sword." A pause as he took a sip before adding softly, as if to himself. "I still hate it, though.." His eyes skimmed out over the room with a distant expression.
* Jaxon watched the other man suspiciously, giving a slight nod as he tapped fingers over the closed comic book. "It can be useful. Especially in this town." He replied with a belated smile, though inwardly he definitely wasn't joking. "Never know what lurks around the corners, right?"
* Yasu glanced back at Jaxon thoughtfully. "Spirits and demons, or so I've heard," he replied in a somewhat joking way, but his tone sounded too flat to be fully humorous, and his smile didn't quite reach his eyes.
* Jaxon took note of the mans tone, and dipped his head a little, risking a glance around to make sure no one was near. The place was empty save for the staff in the kitchen. "More like zombies and... other things." He grimaced. "You ever lose time? I know I'm not the only one."
* Yasu blinked a few times in surprise. "Zombies.. that's a new one.." He glanced accusingly over his shoulder, then dipped his head with deep thought. "Actually...just a few days ago now that you mention it... I was on my way to class in the morning... and then..it was evening, and I'd missed class...not to mention I was at least three hours away from the dojo.." His brows knit tighter. "With no idea what happened..." His gaze returned to Jaxon with interest and wariness.
* Jaxon licked his lips uncertainly, looking over the mans face as though to ensure he wasn't screwing with Jax's head. "And in a strange place, too? No idea how you got there?" He added with conviction. It had happened a few times to him already. "You're not crazy." He stated, because that's what he'd thought at first.
* Yasu matched Jaxons stare for a long minute before sighing through his nose, eyes closing. "Are you sure I'm not?" he muttered with a twitch of his lips, a bitter humor to his tone. He stared at his drink, an odd expression fixed to his face that made him look ten years older than he was.
* Jaxon watched Yasu with a slight frown, head shaking as he sat back in his seat defeatedly. "I'm sure. You're not the only one. Somethings going on in this town. Weird things." He added, and then snatched up his drink to finish it. "But maybe this isn't the place to talk about it... are you free this weekend?"
* Yasu studied Jaxon again. His expression seemed wary still, despite Jaxon admissions, or maybe because of it. A flicker of doubt crossed his eyes, toying with the straw. "I can be," he finally answered, his voice soft and careful.
* Jaxon eyed the male another long moment before nodding and sliding to the end of his booth. "Meet me near the Necropolis club. I wan'na show you something." He spoke quietly and stood, fishing out his wallet to lay down enough money to pay for both drinks. "Friday evening." He added, and then gave a smile. "Don't let any kiddos beat you up in the meantime."
* Yasu managed a ghost of a smile in return, but it was gone just as quickly as it appeared. "I'll be there," he replied, lowering his eyes back to the table in thought. "See you, then.."
* Jaxon touched two fingers to his temple in a little salute, and flashed a smile. "Til then, Jack." He murmured, and strode out of the shop.
