What little hope Lorelai had left, dwindled; it was common for people to say that the light goes out of a person’s eyes as they die and for Lorelai this was when it seemed to happen. Of course she was already dead but now all hope was gone, she basically died all over again. She didn’t scream or shout though, instead she settled herself down on the edge of the sofa and began chewing on her index finger. She had a rather awkward way of chewing at her nail but to her it was completely natural. She would curl her hand into a fist and then chew upon the nail. It was one of her least attractive habits but no-one had ever told her this. They knew why she did it, it was a sort of tell, and so they would instead address the reason for biting, rather than the biting itself.
“I’m twenty-five,” she said answering an unasked question.
Yes. To many she probably did appear younger and that was probably due to the fact that she basically looked at the world through child-like eyes. She had little experience of city living and everything she’d learned had come to her by way of a violent crash-course. Her life had literally begun to fall apart as of the day she left Hoshkosh. Her home and refuge seemed to belong to someone else now as for her it only existed in her memory, it was literally another life ago that she’d lived there. She’d had many opportunities to return to the life she’d known and never took a one; something she never regretted more so than she did in that moment. Literally everything she knew and loved was lost to her, for forever.
As this fact sunk in she stopped chewing on her nail and began clawing her hair down on either side of her face . She needed to hide herself away from the woman she would now have to call her sire, her supposed saviour, so that she wouldn’t see her cry. Of course vampires have better hearing, better everything in fact and so the sobs, low as they were, were probably perfectly audible to prudence. Her shoulders rose and fell too, the movements so faint that they might have been mistaken for someone simply breathing but the movements were sharper than they should be and fell with every noise she made.
You shouldn’t cry. You’ll make her think you’re ungrateful.
I am ungrateful. I didn’t want this. I wanted her to save me.
And she did.
Not like this. Never like this. I wanted to live.
And so you are.
This isn't living. It's purgatory. I've been condemned to live a life of death and darkness.
Her mind fell silent. Her conscience had no come back, no words to lessen her pain and so silence was all there could be.

Re: A cosmic joke (Closed)
Prudence just looked at the woman and then nodded her head after Lori started to more or less shroud herself in her own hair. She was starting to wonder if she had made the right choice because everything Lori said and did screamed that she wanted to hide from the gift Prudence had given her. She sighed, then pat the couch seat next to her before scooting over to make more room for the already petite woman.
"I was twenty-two. Still am twenty-two. Obviously. When I was made a vampire." Prudence let her shoulders roll before continuing on with her thoughts. "My life was kinda going no where fast. I mean, ya can only do what I did for so many years before-well-no one would pay to see some old lady doing the **** I did. If it's even possible to do it." She gave Lori a small, wry smile before tilting her head left, then right allowing the bones in her neck to pop.
"I thought this was the best gift ever. At first." She let her right hand fall on her left wrist and started picking at the skin there. Just to keep busy as she talked. "But as time went on, outside of a few friends-some I hope you'll meet, I found out it wasn't all that great. It sucks sometimes. Living forever and watching things change. And sometimes, it's gonna suck for you too, Lori. But that doesn't matter if it's because you're a vampire. Everyone's life sucks sometimes. But it's who ya surround yourself with that makes all the bad **** bearable." It was all she could really offer the woman, outside of one exception.
"I'd like for ya to try real hard and give this life a shot. We don't die, but there is some small absolution I can offer if ya find it still sucking. Our kind doesn't permanently die, but there is this place, called the shadow realm. I used to go there a lot. For some alone time and to think without any distractions. Still do sometimes. I would hate to see ya go there, but I've gone there for a night. I've gone there longer too when I died. Spent a few months there just getting me sorted out. Only catch is, ya can't escape me. I can go there whenever I want, so if ya try and go there to hide from me, you're in sad luck." Prudence laughed, even though the idea of dying wasn't all that funny. Not really.

Re: A cosmic joke (Closed)
Lorelai was aware of the fact that Prudence wanted her to sit down and despite the fact that she wanted to run away and lock herself in her bedroom, she found herself moving to sit where the woman had indicated. She was uncomfortably close to Pru and try as she might, she couldn't stop the almost silent sobbing.
Pru soon began to fill the silence, to open up to her. Lorelai had never heard Prudence speak so much and the more the woman spoke, the more she found herself drawn to, what was to her, her melodic voice. Not only did Pru look like an angel, now more than ever, she now sounded like one too.
"I can try," she squeaked out when Prudence finally fell silent. "I will try. For you."
Oh lord. Why am I stuck with you?
Please don't be mean to me right now.
Why not? I know what you're about to do. You hate her, you want to run away but you're actually contemplating snuggling up with your "killer".
I am? I was?
Mhm.
Lorelai scooted a little closer to the woman, despite having told herself that she didn't want to be here with her, that she hated her. Hate was a strong word though and Lorelai didn't actually hate anyone, she wasn't even sure she was capable of the emotion.
"I'm not sure I'd like it in true purgatory," the word true perhaps giving away how she felt about the life she now found herself in, as the shadow realm was true purgatory for their kind. "I've seen Ana come back from there. She wasn't herself."
Without realising what she was doing, and despite being warned by her internal voice, Lorelai curled herself up into a ball and laid her head in Pru's lap. One hand she kept curled to her chest and her hair still covered her face but her other hand reached out and came to rest just above Pru's knee. She needed to be comforted and while nothing about the situation she was in told her that this was the correct way to get said comfort, she couldn't help herself. Being near Pru was like stepping out into the sunshine. Lorelai began to wonder why she hadn't noticed this radiating warmth before, but she wasn't about to question it, not when it was making her feel better.

"Uhhhh," Prudence said, then shut her jaw only because she didn't know what to say about the purgatory idea. Prudence never saw it like that, but maybe it kind of was. Wasn't that a place of waiting? So the SR was waiting to do something. Get out, waiting to find spirits, or waiting to see if someone had the strength to come out of the place. She just went there to wait and let things cool down, mostly herself when Prudence went in there voluntarily.
"So long as you're willing to try." Prudence said as Lori made herself comfortable on her. Pru was now a Lori pillow. And she was getting manhandled. Or manipulated in some way so that she was more comfortable for Lori and her positioning. "It's all I ask for, really. And to not be stupid. Like attacking people for no reason or stupid reasons or going, 'hey, I'm a vampire, wanna see?' I got enough of my own **** to deal with, without having to worry about adults all the time." Prudence realized how that sounded a little too late for someone like Lori.
"I mean, I'll still check in on ya and wonder on stuff and see if ya need anything, but I mean, just use some common sense is all. It would be nice for someone, other than myself to have some from time to time." She stroked the woman's hair slowly, and comfortingly before sighing. "So, ya got any real pertinent questions? I don't want to forget anything, but I kinda feel like there's a lot to tell ya and I forget stuff sometimes. We're part of this lineage called Worthington. It's kinda quiet and, well, there are a lot of us, but we kinda all do our different things and business."She didn't want to give Lori any false hope that she was entering a life where there were tons of vampires, all willing to accept her with open arms and bring her in to their world. Most of them were dumb assholes in Pru's mind and not worth a pint of ******* blood in her mind. "It's pretty much just me, you, Kennedy and, well Mordie in our little family. Ya can count on him. He and I go way back. He's good people. Rough around the edges, but good overall. I'll take ya to meet him sometime."

Prudence stroked her hair and she closed her eyes. There was probably a great deal for her to learn about this new life but she was sure she already knew the basics; after all you can't date a vampire without learning a little something about the overall lifestyle. She should have been insulted by the fact that Pru could ever think that she might go around starting fights and getting in trouble but she was drained, both physically and mentally. All she wanted to do was stay exactly where she was and rest with her sire.
"So long as I have you Pru, I'm sure I'll be fine."
She heard the names but really didn't give them much thought. She was sure she knew Mordechai from the raids but she'd never actually spoken to him before. She tended to do what she needed to do to help Pru and then get gone, as vampires had a real thirst for human blood and if she wasn't careful, she'd often wind up wandering the streets and wondering what she was supposed to be doing.
"I promise I'll ask you about anything I need to know, when I need to know it."
Her words grew softer as she spoke and the grip she had on Pru's knee began to loosen as she drifted into a deep and possibly unnecessary sleep. Her body needed time to fully heal itself and her psyche needed time to adjust to this new state of being; not that she would be able to do that last part in just one night. Lorelai was a sorcerer, through and through, it was what she was born to be and now, now she was outside of nature and this was a change that the naive blonde might never fully recover from.

Re: A cosmic joke (Closed)
When the woman appeared to be asleep, Prudence rose from the couch, Lori carried in her arms. Prudence wasn't planning on leaving, but she wasn't about to sleep upright either. She could do it, but it just wasn't comfortable for the redhead. She found this out before she met Mordie and Chimere, when Prudence slept up against a wall of a building or sewer. Puppy piles had been invented by Mordechai and Prudence would never admit it, but she grew fond of them. A bunch of people she trusted and knew, all piled together, looking out for the other. She missed those nights, in reality. It was perhaps the few times Prudence felt absolutely safe while she slept in public places.
The lithe blonde was put on her bed after Prudence pulled the covers down. What little there was in the room, screamed girly to Prudence and her nose wrinkled a little. Probably CC's doing, if she thought about it any. But she didn't. For now, Prudence just wanted to get out of there. So, her new mini was put down on the bed and covered, even if covers were sort of pointless. It wasn't like they got cold.
When Lori was taken care of, Prudence moved back to the couch and claimed it as her own for the night. Boots were taken off and put on the floor, at one end of the couch. Her pony tail was pulled out and put on the first surface she found, along with the hoop earrings she was wearing and the bangles on her wrist. A pillow was put down on the couch for her head, then it was met with her head. It didn't take long for Prudence to fall asleep, with all the random pieces of information to share with Lori about things that she still needed to talk about, just in case she didn't know these things. What, if anything, CC told her wasn't known, so Prudence would rather cover all bases to be safe when the two were awake.
