Divulgence

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--
Roderic: * Text from Ric Altaire * You free for the night?

Doc: *Text* I am. I left my calendar clear.

Roderic: * Text * Cool. I don't think I know where your lab is. If I can get directions off you, I'd be happy to meet you there, or I'm in the QZ in the old supermarket.

Doc: *Text* Genesis Labs, in Newborough. One block northeast of the Newborough transit. Big Blue G on the building. I will unlock the door. you can come on in.

Roderic: * Text * Sounds good. See you soon. * I hit send, use the tome to the Eyrie, portal jump to a transit and then catch it to Newborough. I follow his directions and I'm there in about twenty minutes. The door is unlocked and I step in, before giving a good look around. "Doc?"

Doc: Doc heard Ric's voice and came up front to meet him. Had it been anyone else, Doc would have offered his hand in the form of a handshake. But he didn't think Ric was the type to invite unwanted touching. So instead, he nodded, "Ric. If you want to come with me, we will talk in my office." He led the way to the office. He propped on the desk instead of taking a seat behind it. He didn't want to give a sense of superiority, that a desk can give. "How can I be of service?”

Roderic: I don't say anything until we're in his office. Once we're there, I watch to see where he'll sit, then prop myself against the door, after I've closed it behind me. I like my personal life to be that. Personal. And if I had a choice that was an easy solution, I would have done it, but I'm no expert in DNA and all things vampire. Thankfully Doc is at least an expert in one of those things and I believe I can trust him with whatever I share with him. "I need your assistance. With disproving a possible relation to me." I hope that I'm wrong. Ali seems nice, but I don't want or need any extra ties to my life.

Doc: He appreciated Ric. He got straight to the issue. He didn't waste time with pleasantries and other **** like that. Doc nodded. "Alright. I will need a DNA sample from the party question and from yourself. That is where it will get tricky. We, vampires, no longer have viable samples that can be collected. It turns to ash once it leaves the body. So you will need a sample from before you were turned, or a sample from a living relative. It could a hair sample from an old hair brush; a baby tooth; possibly.. a toothbrush.. but that one is sketchy."

Roderic: I listen and then just stare at Doc. Did I look like the sentimental sort to keep stuff like that around? "That will be difficult. It would require me to leave the country and I'd rather not. The whole fade thing and all." I didn't think I would leave and die, but stranger things have happened, I'm sure. A thought strikes me then. "What about a blood sample from a living half-sibling? Would that work?" It's the best shot I have, really. My mom might have whatever Doc needs, but I'd rather avoid her and home if I can.

Doc: Doc nodded slowly, "Yes, I would need to know to know what parent you share in common, in order to compare them. But yes. that would work. And it would be better than the hairbrush or toothbrush." he paused, "The person in question, are they vampire? If so, do they have access to a viable sample?"

Roderic Hairbrush. I could do that. I would get them tonight. "They are. Recently sired, though." How recent was anyone's guess without me asking Ali flat out, but her lack of experience in, anything was obvious and spoke about how new she was to this life. "A few weeks, tops." I say, my eyes on him to observe his facial expressions and to see if any of this was still remotely possible. "If this is able to be carried out, how long will it take to get the results?"

Doc: "If I can get a good sample, and can replicate it, It takes about 18 hours to run a sample. I like to fail safes. I prefer to run them twice to make sure the samples match. Then it's a simple case of comparison only. So two days per sample.." he held up a hand, "Once I have a good sample.. If I cant get a good sample.. we are back at the beginning. But for the sake of this situation, two good samples.. five days. Will that work?"

Roderic: Five days. I nod. Not like I had a choice. It's how these things work apparently. I would rather know beyond a shadow of a doubt than to have Doc do a half assed job to try and get the result I hope he got. "That works. The parent is my dad. I believe the individual in question is a cousin to me, or my half-sibling since you'll be comparing it to their genetics. Or whatever it is." I don't know, but I am interested. I might read up on it to see how this stuff actually works. "What will it cost?" I'm not sure what Doc wants for his trouble, but if I can get it for him, I would. "For your services and the use of your equipment." I add on. I don't think Doc is unintelligent, but I want him to know that I understand it will take time and product and I am willing to pay for that service.

--The following was a live transaction roleplay--

Doc: "You're a faction mate. I am not going to charge you. Besides if I charge you, it goes on the books. That creates a paper trail I do not want. I own the lab, I have the latitude to do that. We will consider this an experiment in gaining knowledge for our kind. I have only done it twice before. This is will give me the experience to hone the outcome, especially if we are using older samples." Doc was all about perfecting things, and using experiences to learn. "Older samples do degrade, so when you bring the samples in, if you could give me a gage on how 'old' the sample is, it is better for me in tracking outcomes."

Roderic: Paper trails. I understood those and tried to avoid them as much as possible. "The other times? Were you able to get results?" I don't care what the results were, unless both were inconclusive. Which was possible, being it seemed a difficult task at hand. But I hate wasting anyone's time if it would produce the same results for whatever reason. Even if Doc seemed fine with wasting his time. "Can do. I'll be collecting both samples tonight and give you a text when I get them to drop them off." My phone goes off, and I give him an apologetic look before digging in my pockets and putting the thing on silent mode. "And thanks, again. For doing this." I say as I put the phone back in my pocket.

Doc: "Yea.. It was successful.. Phoenix.. my ******* biological child. Who the **** would have suspected. Not me. But there is no doubt. I ran those results five times to be sure." He stopped. "Yes. They both were successful. I will tell you what I told Phoenix. You may not like the results. I will give you the option to walk away if you want it. If choose not to, do not hold me responsible for the outcome."

Roderic: I just stand there and stare. Processing what he said. Did he just say that he and Phoenix were related? That he was her dad? I replay it in my head to make sure that's what he said because it seems almost impossible. I have respect for both individuals in question, but Doc and Phoenix seem completely different. "Not me." I say finally. Because I can't believe or would have ever suspected it. I nod again. "You're just doing a job that I asked you to do. The results are not your fault. You are just providing them."

Doc: Doc noted the look. He got that look a lot when he admitted it to people. "Yea... " He nodded and dragged the single word out; that single word saying he had been just as shocked. "Appreciate the understanding. You would be surprised how many people do not get the fact, that we are dealing finite things. The results cannot be changed to suit them." He paused, "If you get the samples and I am not here, give them to Jane. She's human, but she is trust worthy. Tell her the samples are the Phoenix protocol. She will understand."

Roderic: I nod my head in understanding. Spend any time with most women in the city and you understood how people wanted things to suit them and would moan, ***** or complain about things not going their way. "Jane." I say her name, saving it in my memory bank in case it had to be used later. "I'll be back in about twenty-four hours." I tell him because I should be. It seemed an easy enough task. I'd stop by Nathan's for a 'visit' and swipe his brush. And just shadow inside Ali's place and grab her brush. People lost or misplaced things all the time. "See you soon." I open the door, and pause. "If you ever do find yourself needing something, give me a call or text." I know he said he'd do it for free, but everyone needed help with something at some point.

Doc: Doc nodded, "I will." He would too. "Stay cagey." He knew that Ric would appreciate the sentiment, whereas most people would just give him a perplexed look. He didn't know Ric well, but he he did know of him, he respected. When he spoke, he said what he meant. He was business first and foremost. Doc respected that. You knew where you stood with him.

Roderic: A small grin etches up on the corners of my lips when he says that and I nod. I don't say anything, as I'm deep in thought on how to get the things he requires, but I do give a quick wave with my left hand. I head out of the office and catch a train back to the Bullwood district. Ali first as she would require the least of my time and energy, compared to Nathan.
