Mortll was in the hot houses she had checked the temperature and humidity levels and hand begun taking soil acidity level tests on all of the beds. She had given instructions for the new guy to be shown in here as soon as he made a appearance , If he made a appearance . She couldn't say the party had been the best of places to have met and hired a new employee It had been quite the spectacle . She started to look each plant over carefully for any signs of leaf mold or blight . They were all quite healthy. She started to hum to herself as she worked she was going to have a long night of aerating the beds they didn't need it as much as she needed to dig and loose herself in what she was doing she didn't need to think right now . She needed the world to be gone for awhile .

He came around the corner, seeing her in the hot house, she looked as though she could heat the room without the lights on, he wondered what was holding her mind so tightly... Enough about her, he had herd her name once before in his cousins letters to him, he had said if he disappeared she would know what had happened to him now he had to see for himself what was going on in this town, where was his cousin, and who the hell were these people? She motioned to the great expanse of beds that had every hue of Rose possible some multi colored Some impossible colors that roses never grew naturally. She was quite proud of her collection she had worked hard making the impossible hybrid blends . Each one had a special place and person that they reminded her of.


"Leonitus wasn't it ? " She offered him a slightly grubby hand. The spades and aerators are over there be careful with the aerators I don't want any root damage . After we finish the beds I will show you what to do with the soil samples ." She watched him carefully for his reactions . It was going to be interesting to see if this one had what it took to immerse himself in this type of work .

He shook her hand, and gave her a funny look, this must be her Monday he thought. "Sure Mort and its Nite if you don't mind..." he went over and went straight to work. The flowers thrived on it though and no one until now had picked up on the scent. She was going to have to be very careful around this one . She finished up her last bed and went over to the soil samples She watched him as he worked on his . He wasn't bad looking middle aged dark rugged looks The tall dark silent type. She smiled and tucked her gloves in the back pocket of her jeans.

"Do you need a break need anything to drink ?' She had to think to ask He was human and she didn't need to forget he had needs that she did not . She smiled "You have worked up quite a sweat " She pretended to wipe her brow with her forearm. It was going to be a little extra work remembering the niceties of the masquerade while teaching him the ins and outs of caring for her babies

"No Thank you Mort I am fine," he walked over to the hose and turned on the water let it run for a moment then took a cool drink of the cold water. When finished he turned off the water, "you have some very beautiful plants in here Mort what do you use to keep aphids at bay, the red and white ones have some eggs on them, and if you don't mind would like to get some ladybugs to take care of it?" He noticed her for the first time her posture, the way she handled herself it was different. It must be getting late he thought it had been a long time since he had stayed up till these hours.

I use purified water in each tube then we use test strips the color will tell us the acidity of the soil then we can fertilize as needed. You can work on that tray and I will do this one . " She started on her tray carefully pouring the water then she started in with the strips dipping one into each tube then laying them next to each one .

"So tell me about this cousin of yours you mentioned you were looking for him ?"

At the mention of his cousin he looked up, dropping one of the samples to the ground. "umm sorry, I am not usually clumsy like that," he shook it off hoping she wouldn't notice the reaction. "Well Mitty is a farmer well rancher ran cows back home then one day he started losing them had some troubles and just disappeared, then one day get a letter in the mail saying he is here and with some bar girl. so when he stopped writing I came a looking for him, not much more to tell, Mitty is a private guy had a tough life, so as family gonna find him." Mortll almost dropped the sample she was holding ... he was talking about Kalamity her Kalamity Jesus she needed to find a seat. 'I think its time for a break lets go to my office and talk " She had to find out how much this man knew what he had been told and if she was going to have to kill him or not ... Mortll had tracked the Rouge down and killed it but not before the cattle had stampeded and caught their owner running him down to where he was near death. Mortll had been observing the man while she was tracking the Rouge he didn't deserve to die this way so she gave him a choice and he took it . He had been doing well adjusting to the life had a girlfriend then he just left no word as to where he had went but he left town. Mortll had been sorely disappointed and still hoped to see him again some day if he hadn't befallen a accident or gotten himself killed with no possibility of return being out of Harper Rock .
