People keep telling me that I should start one of these things. I’m undecided. Never really been too good at the whole writing down my hopes and dreams ****. I mean, who cares, right? Take each day as it comes and roll with the punches and you’ll make it by. Don’t need to write about the other stuff and it’s not like I especially need to write to remember. I was there for it, I know what happened.
Anyway. I’m writing this in Church, mainly so people will wander by and see me putting pen to paper. Hopefully that’ll stop people bugging me to write. The trick now is to find something worthwhile to actually note down that don’t sound self indulgent.
I guess I could lead off with the last few nights.
I’ve been talking about opening a bar for a while. Finally happened, and it’s kinda exactly the way I wanted it. I had a look around the others before I bought property and… other places are pretty specific. They either want only vampires or only humans. And if the two mix there’s all these ******** rules that one side has to keep to or they get a visit from the self righteous bullies and a short sharp trip to the shadow realm.
I don’t get that. I ain’t ashamed of what I am. If anything it’s a help in my line of work. Got me some spooky street cred and I’m gonna use the **** out of it to get business done. And that’s kinda the point of my place. It’s a bar anyone can come to, humans, blood thieves, vampires. ****, even paladins. They can come in, have a drink and be themselves. Rules are simple - no drugs on site and if you’re gonna fight you do it in the cage in the basement where people can watch and bet on the outcome. House takes a cut, ‘course.
The only masquerade we’re gonna have is one where you wear a mask, and I don’t see us pulling one of them out the hat any time soon.
While I’m talking about that - what even is the point of the thing? With all the ******* zombies and so on wandering around you’d think us vamps would be the last thing the humans’d be worrying about. And who’d believe one of them anyway? “Oh I saw a vampire” “**** off did you”. It’s daft to insist we hide. I’ll keep living by my own rules. If anyone has a problem with that, I got plenty of bullets.
Anyway.
The bar opened on the weekend. The Mexican day of the dead, actually. Got to say I liked the irony. We’d dropped by the Met the night before, me and the rest of the staff, to get a vague idea of what to expect. Turns out we took the place over. For the whole night there was more of us than anyone else, and we’re the ‘competition’. Inverted commas ‘cause that place ain’t no competition that I could see. Still, we managed to get free drinks so I can’t really complain.
After that night though, I wasn’t too sure how our opening bash would go. Turns out - way better. We had an absolute ton of people through the doors and most of ‘em seemed to enjoy themselves. We even had the girl as runs Lancaster’s pop in for a bit. We spoke briefly, but not about anything particularly important. I should swing by her place, make myself known, at some point.
Anyway. A lot of fun was had, we made some book off an impromptu fight that went down between Blinky and some big guy that was all mouth. ****** talked a big game but couldn’t really walk the walk. Some people, eh? The auctions Mia organised went well too, even if she did just kidnap people and decided to sell them at random, bless her. Turns out she’s a way better salesperson than I would have thought. Lucked out on that one. Kinda.
For the future, gonna formalise those fights into a proper fight night type deal. Pay upfront as a buy in, winner takes a cut of the total. Want to see how that one goes. Worst case scenario as I see it is that no-one signs up and we just fight each other anyway. I don’t see that as being too bad. Just need to be faster against a certain someone before she does my back in again.
Speaking of. Who’d’ve thought it, eh? More on that one later. Possibly.

So yeah. I’m writing again. Not entirely sure why to be honest, but justifying myself to myself sounds like a fool’s game.
Anyway. The last few days.
Got a new hire in. Thought it’d be good to give Mel a hand behind the bar given that she’s… well. Mel. Says her name is Momma Bear, but I’m pretty sure that ain’t really what it is. Still, who’m I to judge, right? She seems to be working out well, and judging by her cut and patches, she’ll fit in well. It’s good to have the extra pair of hands around, too, considering the place has been pretty busy since its opening.
It’s been a good surprise. I mean, I thought the place would tick over nicely given the atmosphere and the business model I’m sticking with, but I had no idea it’d go this well this quick. Starting to see some regular faces and there’s a couple of new people each night, too. It’s good times. Might have to drop a line to Ariadne asking her to increase our shipments if this keeps up. We really seem to have something people want.
The guys I hired are gelling well, too. I basically just have to turn up. Blinks and Vic are obviously a good team if they can keep their hands off each other for long enough to actually get any work done. Cat’s something else behind the bar, too, but I really don’t know about the names she’s giving the drinks. Leads to a lot of confusion. I’ve mentioned Mel before, pretty sure, and she’s keeping that the hell up in her own oh so special way. She’s turned into our own little mascot. Still needs a bell though.
Then there’s Kleo. Heh. She don’t really do much janitorial work, but I don’t exactly care. So it works out pretty well, way I see it.
Anyway. I got **** to do so I’m done with this for now. I’ll see how this journal thing goes.
