I think the other problem with PCs and massive plots is activity. Right?

We had that huge thing with the wraiths, and a competition for people to play the wraiths. I don't think I see any of them actually being written, now. You'd have to trust that they'd stick around and see it through.

Also true about activity levels, yes. Chapters work better if there are more people involved.

Just like a real election.

I really like the idea of an election. But I have to admit I am rather disappointed in how it was handled.

Look at how much money some of the vampires in this city have. How successful and established their businesses are. How strong some of the factions are. These guys control almost every aspect of the city. They have the wealth, the firepower etc..

An election in which the real movers and shakers of the city aren't even allowed to run or nominate candidates is a farce. Is Harper Rock in Canada or in Soviet Russia?

And yes this would most likely turn into a popularity contest. But isn't that what elections are about?

Just to remind you:
The origin of the word "popularity" is the latin word "populus" = the people
The origin of the word democracy is the Greek word 'demos' = the people

I agree with the decision made to keep it NPC's.

When they say popularity, I think they mean more so, ooc popularity.

Plus with the way people go inactive, I don't see that working out well.

I think it's poor form to assume that the vampires control the entire city. They don't. The government does. I saw maybe like 2 threads that went to try and go about figuring out what was going on with the mausoleum and I don't think they ever even got finished.

.
As much as it would be fun for a little while to have real character elections; the points Madison mun brings up are my views as well.

Yeah, no doubt.
Maybe next time, players can do something like enter their thralls with the understanding that the players will have some input on the way they intend the politics to go (subject, of course, to David's interpretations and the whims of an NPC city council) and that their thrall essentially becomes an NPC if they win.

Frankly, the inability to really roleplay with any of the movers and shakers makes this feel like a shadow puppet theater sometimes. Or "Waiting for Godot". We always have conversations about people who never actually appear on screen.

And we can never get enough RP info on them to do things with ourselves.

Concur. I feel I'd need a weeks' worth of actual newspaper articles before I felt like I had a tenth of the information my character would ACTUALLY have to make a decision. Right now, I'm voting based on a few soundbites and tons of speculation.

It's really very frustrating to know you're going to be kicked in the balls for a reason, but that you're not allowed to have hints as to how to avoid it until after the fact. That in mind, we might as well kick our collective crotch as hard as possible and laugh when we see just how flammable the world is.

Actually, that sounds like a good life philosophy.

Looks like we need to start with some impact threading then. We have until November after all. And he stated larger pieces of info can be found through those rp.

I haven't seen that statement, which doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but I had expected to only get as much info as we had on previous events. Maybe less since none of the key characters were actually being played.
