Serial Killer Name

Post by Wendigo »

So, background: Digo's war on the Blood Thieves never quite ended. Perhaps because of habits he developed during the Blood Hunt, Digo still occasionally sniffs out Blood Thieves and never fails to attack one on grid (even when I had other plans in mind for that energy). It's something of a compulsion for him.

Given this compulsion, I opted to take the Serial Killer Flaw. Enough Blood Thieves have been killed by similar weaponry (ones that he hasn't been able to remove the bodies of) that I think it might have become noticed. Not that anyone would be able to tie this to Digo personally -- though the list of suspects in the vampire community would be fairly short -- but I was thinking that maybe the papers might get wind that a certain group of thugs/gangsters was being targeted by a professional.

So, before I get into the nitty gritty of RPing this out, what I need is a Serial Killer Name. One of those monikers that the media likes to slap on unknown persons to sell ad space (e.g., Bay Harbor Butcher). Unfortunately, Digo's kills haven't really been localized... the only commonalities are that he uses really heavy weaponry (generally high caliber rounds) and that he targets Blood Thieves.

Any thoughts on cool Serial Killer Names?

Would maybe help if he had some sort of, signature?

Cause if he just shoots them and then dumps them, there's enough of that in the city that it's not really going to stand out. IMO, he needs something that separates him from the rest of the killers in the city, and make his bodies stand apart. Some sort of pattern or a specific wound or a mark he gives them or a way of staging the body or an item left behind in the same place each time. etc etc.

Hope that helps? :)

This was my thought. I watch a lot of crime T.V, both fiction and solved/unsolved mysteries. Most killers who are "serious" about what they do come to hone their craft over time, and as mentioned, often adopt a signature whether they are aware of it or not (as some serial killers think themselves so much smarter than everyone else that their crimes would never be linked).

These are nice name, but not really "special." They sound more like a killer's true name, not the name used by the media and public, the one which makes you tremble at its mention.

I'd say decide his signature/defining aspects of his kills or how he disposes of the bodies after, and go from there, such as:
  • Carves initials/symbols into victims pre/post mortem
  • Opens the eyes of the victim post mortem
  • Completely drains the victim of blood by drinking or evisceration (fitting, to spill the blood of a blood thief, maybe?)
  • Force an empty vial into the hand of the victim post mortem, before rigor sets in
I hope this helps! >.>

He doesn't need a signature per se to stand out as a serial killer. If anything, the city not noticing a pattern in the killings is the best camouflage Digo could actually get. So if this gets RPed out in the future, it means someone, perhaps a family member of a slain Blood Thief, or a detective, young or old, noticed. A young detective is better because he is always looking for the big case to put him on the map and to gain respect for himself.

Anyway, I have fluttered away from the topic a little.

Um...

Since he isn't just killing in one area more than others, any name you decide will sorta have to Harper Rock:

Harper Rock Slayer
Harper Rock Gunman or Gunslinger
Harper Rock Shooter
Harper Rock Killer

and so on.

Or because Blood Thieves are basically dealers, Digo could be coined the Narcotics Killer of Harper Rock.

If anything, you could always google serial killer nicknames and just check out some of the nicknames known serial killers were coined with. Just so you can get some inspiration. Hope this helps.

True, but just being a "Harper Rock Killer" etc. seems very run of the mill, but that's just me. If I were doing a Serial Killer I'd want them to "go down in history." To have something so inherently linked to them that people are talking about it for years to come, that when a body is found "This is the work of _____" is said. Many Serial Killers want people to know their work, they want their "credit." I don't know if this is the case in this instance, I'm speaking in general terms. If he wants a nickname people know him by, there has to be a common link, otherwise how would anyone even make a connection? If 20 people are killed, and there is no common factor, it could take ages to link the crimes. Granted, being a blood thief is a link...but aside from vampires or whoever, the general public wouldn't know a blood thief from anyone else, which is why I suggest signatures.

If you google some of the nicknames, some of them are just really basic. But when you google those names, their names and faces pop up. The Moors Murderers sounds basic. But when you google that, you pull up Ian Brady and Myra Hindley.

Basic but notorious. It doesn't have to be fancy, it's just has to be something everyone is going to remember and will remember easily.

I get what you mean. Granted, reading back I think I misunderstood. He wants the "kind of" name given by the media- and I was assuming he means truly given by the media/public, which would require some defining factor for linking purposes. But if it's just a name to call himself there's no need for signature. Even in the case you mentioned, for example, there were signatures: burial and child victims. I suppose that's akin to rapid fire weapons and blood thieves maybe.

What would HRK stand for? BTK was an acronym for bind, torture, kill. He could be the TSK Killer/Sniper or something (track, shoot, kill) :))

My fascination with criminology and serial killers is showing, isn't it. :|
