Saving Me [Kallista]

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--
This RP takes place on March 14th, 2014
<Jersey> She slid her hand lightly over the curve of her neck, managing not to wince as she tried to knead away a knot that had been threatening to form there from the way she'd slept the evening before. It probably didn't help, either, getting fed on but it wasn't as if she were too concerned. At least, she didn't think that the female vampire that had been feeding on her meant her any harm. Siren had become what Jersey referred to her as, due to the way the woman often seemed to lure her to the place with the zombies.

The blonde still hadn't figured out how to bring it up to Peter, or even if she should - mentally, she weighed the odd that the man would likely never let her leave his sight and decided against it. Jersey chewed on her bottom lip, a habit showing when she was thinking too hard, and left Peppermint quietly after making sure that her co-worker wouldn't be swarmed with customers. It was something she did in hope that if it happened to her, they'd stay to help out a bit even if they wanted to go home.

"I think I'm going to have another salad tonight..." She mumbled to herself, pausing as she let a couple pass her going into the mall as she stepped out. Fifteen minutes later, Jersey stepped onto the transit at Wickbridge station, intending to head to River Rock to check out one of the restaurants that had been suggested by a co-worker. Accidentally, she bumped into a woman, flashing a smile as she apologized quickly.

<Kallista> The bow danced over the strings as Kallista manipulated them with a practiced that came from years of musical lessons. The violin wasn’t the only instrument that she had mastered in her young life. Flute and piano were the others that she had learned and could play them all easily. Music was the one thing that had always came easy to her, and she was pleased that she hadn’t lost her talent when she had been brought to this life. She’d been playing more often as of late, day and night, losing herself in the different works of Mozart, Chopin and various other composers.

The last note faded and she was left with silence as she lowered both bow and violin. She glanced at the clock and was surprised to see that so much time had passed since she had begun to play. A dry itch was present in the back of her throat and she knew it was way past the time that she usually fed. As of late she hadn’t left the apartment much, choosing to lure a human to her and more often than not it was the same female. Blonde, about her height and the one thing Kallista had noticed was the slight spark of recognition in her eyes each time she appeared, regardless of her dazed state. She sighed. One of these nights she’d probably have to take care of that but she couldn’t bring herself to. Not yet at least.

After stowing her instrument safely away Kallista moved carefully through the apartment just in case Kelly was sleeping. She didn’t like to wake him even though she knew he wouldn’t mind. The itch in her throat was more prominent now and she couldn’t put off feeding any longer so she curled up in an armchair by the window and closed her eyes, letting the power fill her to send out a command to lure a nearby human to her.

<Jersey> She felt the pull and bit down on her bottom lip as she tried to stubbornly ignore it. She wanted food, not to go where she needed to before she exhaled and eventually, gave in to the sensation as she fell into step and allowed her instincts to take over. The path had become familiar to her; she’d enter the sewers from River Rock or Moss End, make her way through and around the naked, tattooed people and quickly past a sleeping vampire to where the zombies were. And her Siren. That’s who she was to Jersey, a Siren. For sometime, the blonde had actually thought she was dreaming until the same sensation appeared in her neck once she was around Peter.

And that had tipped her off, a vampire had been feeding on her. Was this one like her love? Or would she kill her if she realized that she knew about their kind? It was something that Jersey wasn’t quite sure she wanted to figure out. She could play the role of dumb blonde easily, although she hated doing it. Feign ignorance. That generally worked with everything and anyone that knew little about her - luckily for Jersey, that was just about everyone that met her. The blonde could say that it was the same for herself, too.

Slipping on some sort of gunk, Jersey made a sound of disgust before she caught her balance and began to make her way to the ladder. The beeping didn’t register, nor did the sound of a gunshot echoing off the sewer tiles. She grunted softly, not thinking of anything of the flower beginning to blossom across the front of her blouse staining it crimson.

<Kallista> A pale, slender hand came up to rub her throat as if she thought that would help ease the dry, scratchy feeling she was currently experiencing. Why did she always wait so long to feed? Some nights, she didn’t even wake and when she eventually did she was ravenous, needing two or three humans to sate her thirst. Maybe she needed to start taking better care of herself. Surely that would help, wouldn’t it?The security feed alerted her at the same time the door opened and Kallista turned her head to see who it was. It was her.

The girl that she had been luring for ages now. She uncurled herself from her spot on the oversized armchair and stood. Her bare feet made no sound on the hardwood flooring as she crossed the room meeting the human girl halfway. “Hello…” she whispered quietly, knowing she wouldn’t get a response given the humans dazes state. “Thank you...I know you don’t understand and I know you recognize me. One night I will explain this to you.” And give you the choice of dying or becoming mine. But those words weren’t spoken aloud. Slender fingers curled around the female’s neck but before Kallista could even think of feeding the potent scent of fresh, human blood filled her senses. Unconsciously she licked her lips and spared a glance at the girl, her blue eyes growing wide when she caught sight of the blood staining the front of her shirt. “Oh no,” she whispered, a huge ball of dread forming in the pit of her stomach. What was she going to do?

<Jersey> She was so out of it, her head so foggy as she walked, drawn to the woman's apartment as she had been night before night without any hesitation. Jersey knew at some point, she'd have to either tell him, or she'd have to confront the vampire herself - the latter caused her to snort inwardly. That would go well. "I know what you are and I know what you're doing to me." And what would she threaten her with, a stake? Holy water? She was almost tempted to ask later on that evening. Jersey stopped halfway as she stared blankly, seeing her face as she tried to get her thoughts straight.

Was the woman talking to her? What was that pain in her abdomen? Why did she smell blood? Her green eyes blinked slowly while she listened to the woman talk, whisper. She did understand, but she couldn't admit that without putting herself at risk at a later date, but at least this woman seemed to be kind. She had just thanked her, after all. Her head tilted automatically at the touch, baring her neck for the other without any difficulty. "Oh no? What's oh no?" The blonde wondered as she felt her head getting foggier, the pain growing more and more significant. A trembling hand moved to the bloodied spot on her shirt before she glanced at her fingertips as they came away crimson. The only sound that came out in a small, frightened whimper and her green eyes immediately shot to the woman's blue, pleading silently before her fear of blood caught up to her.

Jersey collapsed, unconscious.

<Kallista> The sick feeling of dread grew as the human raised her blood stained fingertips. Kallista caught the pleading look in the others eyes and somehow managed to catch her right before she hit the floor. She fell to her knees and maneuvered the woman so that her head was resting in her lap. She tore a strip of fabric off of the shirt the human female was wearing and pressed it against the wound on her stomach hoping that maybe she could get the bleeding to stop. It never crossed Kallista’s mind that it could be too late for that.

It was a good thing that the human was unconscious so she wasn’t feeling the pain that Kallista was surely causing her. The harder the mystic pressed the more the wound seemed to bleed. The tiny scrap of fabric was soon soaked through and her pale, delicate fingers were coated in the thick crimson fluid. Tears streaked her cheeks. This was her fault. Why couldn’t she have just gone to the lobby to buy a bag of blood? If only she had done that, then this innocent female wouldn’t be laying on her floor in the condition she was in.

The silence around her was deafening, the only noise being the rapid beating of the heartbeat of the girl that Kallista was trying to save. If she could just stop the bleeding maybe she could get her to the hospital. Just when she allowed herself to start hoping that it would be possible the rapid beating seemed to flutter. It skipped a beat once, twice...a long pause….another beat, much weaker than the ones before it and it was then that Kallista knew there was no hope.

She almost called for Kelly but knew she was running out of time. There was only one thing left for her to do if she had any hope of saving this girl. Bringing her wrist up to her mouth she tore it open with her fangs and pressed it against her lips, urging her to drink.

<Jersey> She was out cold for a good part of it, and it were likely even if she hadn't been, she would have just passed out once more. Blood, pain. Perhaps even the sight of the vampire actually trying to save her would have just been too much for her at that moment. As Kallista pressed Jersey grew colder and her heart worked harder, only for it to be a moot point. She was dying. There was no white light for her and somehow, in the back of her mind, she wondered if it was because of what she was fated for.

The memories that began to flash before her eyes belonged to the woman she had been, the unknown stranger and were foreign to her before a glimpse of Peter appeared. He vanished, and then ones of the dogs, followed by Mora and customers at Peppermint, and after, there was the kind cashier at the market she went to that smiled at her and made idle chitchat. "Good memories." She thought, even as the first time the mysterious vampire fed on her entered her mind. Jersey felt a tear slide down her cheek. Hers? She didn't think she was crying.

She parted her lips to take a breath of air only to receive a mouthful of blood, Jersey instinctively attempting to cough it back up once it had moved down her throat. The taste was vile and she could feel her heartbeat slowing the more she drank. When her heart stopped completely and her stomach gave a lurch from the blood she consumed Jersey stopped and fell still, her eyes closed. She was dead, but she was alive. She didn't know whether or not to scream and cry, or rejoice and thank the woman. At least she didn't until the stabbing hunger hit her, and she opened her eyes to look up at the woman.

"I feel like a train wreck." Jersey murmured under her breath uselessly, but made no attempt to lift her head from her lap, she could smell and feel the blood that clung to her body, made her cloths stick to her skin and it all made her nauseous once more as she closed her eyes. Her head was spinning.

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--

<Kallista> She’d never turned someone before. Her own turning was a blur and she didn’t remember anything about it. Kelly was the first person she’d met after wandering around alone for a few days. He was her constant companion now and she was more than satisfied with that. She didn’t need anyone or anything else, until now. When this girl who she lured night after night appeared in front of her bleeding Kallista discovered that she needed something more. This girl. She was her family now and that made her happy. Though if she chose to go on her own after it was all said and done, she would let her go. It would make her sad of course but Kallista didn’t have mean bone in her body. She’d teach the girl everything that she needed to know and wish her well. But she couldn’t be sorry about making the choice that she did.

She hummed a random tune softly to herself as she waited for something - anything - to happen. Time seemed to stand still. The room was as silent as a tomb and it was uncomfortable. Her free hand came up to wipe away her tears never noticing that the female’s blood now painted her face making her look as if she were wearing some war paint. Maybe she was in a way as she was gearing up for a battle she wasn’t even sure was going to happen. Would she be mad? Would she understand and accept the reasons Kallista made the choice that she did? Those questions continued to circle her mind as she waited.

Kallista looked down and noticed that the girl was awake. Train wreck? A soft laugh bubbled inside her chest. “Maybe a little bit,” she began gently. “I apologize if this is a shock to you but when you came through my door you were dying. I didn’t know if at first but I saw the blood and I tried to stop the bleeding and unfortunately I had to make a decision. Do you understand what has happened to you?”

<Jersey> The back of her throat burned and Jersey tried to swallow in hope that it would sooth the sensation before she smoothed out her shirt, tensing slightly at the feeling of her own blood cooling on her chest. Where was her bag? She blinked a few times, trying to remember before she heard the woman hum and Jersey looked up at her with a surprised expression. That was definitely the voice she’d been hearing, and the blonde focused on her blue eyes rather than the blood on her features - Jersey’s blood. “You… made me a vampire.” She answered slowly, wondering silently how to explain that she knew about it all.

“Shock is a definite.” She mumbled softly and closed her eyes once more, listening to the sounds inside the building itself before she heard the ding from the elevator nearby letting someone off. “You’ve been feeding off me.” It wasn’t a question, but a soft statement while she chewed on her bottom lip, her eyes opening once more, “But… you’ve never hurt me.” A wave of nausea hit her as she could smell the blood in the room and she thought about what the woman had said. Jersey had been dying. It was so simple, but at the same time, it confused her. Reluctantly, she opened her eyes to look down at her torso before immediately setting her head back down on the woman’s lap as she felt sick.

“What…” Jersey started as it dawned on her why her throat was burning, and she could feel the sensation building in the pit of her stomach of what she desired but at the same time, rejected to consider. “What happens now?” She swallowed again, “Who are you? And why isn’t your blood black, like other vampires?” The questions came out faster as she managed to not say like Peter’s before she eventually sat up, thinking about her hotel room as she made a mental note that she’d have to scrub herself clean and hide under a jacket.

<Kallista> “I did. You...you were going to die. And this is my fault.” She swallowed heavily her voice a mere whisper as she spoke. “I should have gone to the lobby and bought my blood but I was feeling lazy. And because I was lazy you were shot on you way to me after I called you here.” She felt so guilty. This poor girl...she’d stolen her life from her. What if she had a family, friends - people who would worry when she didn’t come home? “I’ve been luring you for awhile now. I don’t understand why its always you but it is. Night after night you’d come through my door and I knew you recognized me. The how is something I can’t explain.”

The blood had dried on her hands and Kallista started to run her fingers through the girls’ long blonde hair. “Well you have options. We’re connected now. I’m your sire and you my childe. It’s my job to teach you everything I can about this new life. After I’ve taught you everything I can you can choose to stay with me or you can go on your own way if you please, but I’ll always be here if you need me.” It stung, saying those words but she was laying it out there to show that she was willing to do whatever she needed to do to prove she was trustworthy. Lying wasn’t something she ever did and she wasn’t about to start now.

“Oh how terribly rude of me. My name is Kallista. Kallista Sinclair.” Yes introductions were in order, especially since she’d just killed this girl. She deserved to put a name to the one that stole her life out from under her.

<Jersey> She watched the woman speak quietly, listening to her voice while she thought about it before she parted her lips to speak when she had the chance, “Please don’t feel bad. In this city, I could have died many other ways and you gave me another life to live.” Always the optimist, Jersey was clearly trying to make the other woman feel better, “I could have gotten eaten by a bear, or a wolf, or mugged again.” As she thought about it, Jersey actually realized that she could have died in many ways in the city and in a way, Kallista had done her a favor. She wondered where her phone had gotten - she didn’t feel that she was laying on it.

As Kallista explained the options, the blonde chewed on her bottom lip from habit before she stopped - dried blood almost made her stomach flip and it tasted horrible. “I think I’m going to stay here for a bit, I need to learn and I don’t trust myself to go get my bags from the hotel…” She closed her eyes, “that’s where I’ve been living since, well. I arrived here.” Another clean slate, it seemed. Whoever was above and calling the shots seemed to appreciate the chance to give Jersey many do-overs. She considered her previous self, the one she didn’t know, to have died in the bus accident as much as she avoided saying it. “If I’m not imposing.”

When she introduced herself, her light green eyes lifted back to her sire and Jersey reached out to offer her hand, “Jersey Thompson.” She offered her a small, weak smile, “And… I don’t suppose there’s another way around the whole blood drinking thing?” It was sheepish and had she been able to, Jersey would have blushed.

<Kallista> Jersey’s words didn’t do much to help with the tremendous amount of guilt Kallista was feeling. She knew that the city was a dangerous place especially for a human and it was only a matter of time before Jersey had gotten herself into a situation that could very well have cost her her life. So in a way it was a good thing that Kallista had been there to save her, even if the luring had caused her to be injured in such a way. “I know. But I still feel like you should have been given a choice in the matter. You were unconscious and I just acted in what I felt was your best interest. You are well within your rights to be angry with me.”

The relief that Kallista felt was noticeable. She hadn’t realized she was so tense but when Jersey said that she wanted to stay the tension fled her body leaving her a lot more relaxed. “I’m very happy to hear that,” she said softly, twisting a few strands of Jersey’s hair between her fingers “You are most definitely not imposing on me at all. This is your home too and I am more than happy to have you here. As for your things, I can retrieve them for you while you rest.” She was quiet for a few minutes. “I’ll make you a tome so you have something to get you here in a hurry if you find yourself in trouble.”

She smiled then and grasped Jersey’s hand in a gentle grip. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Jersey.” Was there a way to help her with her blood problem. Kallista frowned thoughtfully for a few minutes then nodded. “Yes actually there is. I can continue my studies in the way of the Fadewalker, so I can learn the Necromancer ways. They have an ability that I can use on you that wouldn’t require you to drink blood.” Her face fell. “It will be awhile though I’m afraid.”

<Jersey> The blonde waved away the thought of anger, “I’m not really an angry person. I have no need to be, I’ll live this life that you gave me with no complaints.” She gave her a soft warm smile, “I can’t say there will not be someone angry…” She bit her lip lightly, “but we’ll cross that road when we come to it.” Jersey lifted her shoulder in a shrug as she felt her body tug on the wound while she pulled herself up in a sitting position. Why did she have the tendency to wear white? Jersey wondered that, lifting her hands to unbutton the blouse to reveal a dark blue tank top underneath before she dug through her bag for her water bottle.

“I’d appreciate that, Kallista.” As she attempted to make herself more presentable by using her ruined blouse as a cloth, she looked up at the woman’s fingers and smiled a bit. “And that would be really nice of you.” There were many questions that went through her head that she could ask her sire - where was she from, how long had the woman been a vampire, and then it dawned on her that she had time to ask her them later. She had a long time, now, and as she considered the thought, Jersey found herself speechless while she listened.

Squeezing her sire’s hand after he woman spoke, she gave a soft nod of her head. “So long as I’ll not have to do it forever… I think awhile is something I can wait on.” And then, her green eyes blinked a little bit as she replayed the words in her mind, “What is a fadewalker? And a necromancer? I mean. I know the meaning of a latter, someone that can communicate and raise dead people with magic, right?”
