The Wraith (A Journal)

Post by Seb »

I summoned a wraith today. At first he swung at me with a scythe sword, but being as he is a wraith, it only took a little anima. He seethed and stared at me for hours, refusing to scan the city for rumors as I have instructed him. I may have to dispel him.

After I grew accustomed to him staring at me, I forgot about the wraith. As I was busy catching locusts that had made their way into my apartment, I lost track of the wraith. He left my apartment without orders to do so. I have summoned for his return, yet I am waiting still. The locusts seem to have thinned out as well. I have put up plastic lining around my windows and called the landlord. The locusts are a bit unnerving as well.

The landlord has arrived and luckily the wraith hasn't returned at this moment. Since I can't control him I fear the landlord would witness one of his outbursts. That would be disastrous. The landlord is just as perplexed by the arrival of the locusts as I am. It is winter, and the windows are new. We've taken the plastic down, as he states there is no possible way they are hindering or helping the situation. Either way, they seem to have thinned out even more. Once the landlord leaves, I will attempt to summon this damned wraith again so I can end it. I will attempt to raise another, more cooperative one.

I stood at a window looking out into the evening sky when one of those damned locusts landed on the window, inches away from my face. I was so startled I dropped the book I was reading. It is a very interesting book. The time of Ancient Rome and Greece seemed perfect for our kind, and part of me wishes if I were to live another cursed life, that it would be then. The book draws me in because for some reason it makes me think of Habren. Did she know any of these people in the book? Were they like us only to be destroyed in the holocaust? My, how powerful would they be if they were still alive...to live the life of a warrior and then to turn and have all of those skills and experience at your fingertips as you were turned. It would be a great head start. I can only imagine. I will return to the book as soon as I figure out what happened to my wraith. I am forced to go out in pursuit of him, since he has not returned at my beckon. What a nuisance.

I found my wraith, but somehow he has far more endurance than I and he is far too fast for me to catch. I don't know what to do. I will contact Habren. Perhaps she knows of a tome or spell or ANYTHING that can help me reign in this catastrophe. I will also ask if our kind was about during the rise of Roman-Greco civilization.

On a side note, good news! There are no more locusts in my apartment. I've never had good luck with animals, but now insects? I shiver! Thankfully, the creepy little things have been expelled! I can now enjoy lighting my place with candles without fear they'll land in the wax and make a mess, or worse, knock one over. They could do this, I'm sure, since the one hit the window with such force earlier...they certainly could knock over a candle.

It seems that my mysterious amnesia and mysterious ailment that has caused me to have to reseek the spirit guides has relapsed. I cannot so much as sense the presence of my wraith, however, I have still seen him about the city...again far too fast for me to catch and finish off. That in itself is an anomaly. I cannot summon another wraith, either. Though I have regained some powers to the point they are more powerful than before, such as my enthrallment of a human named Matt...I still have some sort of residual weakness with wraiths. I have decided to focus on becoming stronger by training and resting as much as possible.

I have decided to read a chapter of this book on Roman-Greco civilization every night. It is enlightening and I feel as though I have become a richer being for it. I have yet to have a chance to have a meaningful and lasting conversation with my sire, but simply being around her puts my mind at ease.

There is but one locust left in my apartment. I can hear it quite clearly but have yet to be able to locate it. Perhaps it somehow got into the floorboard or the drywall. It seems to only make some sort of noise when someone comes up the elevator. It forecast the landlords arrival recently, which was good since I had yet to change my shirt after a particularly messy feeding. Those hunters are getting better at disguising themselves...but not good enough.

This last locust has driven me to madness. I cannot sleep. I cannot concentrate. My only refuge is to leave my home. I have taken to sleeping in the catacombs or vacant buildings. My wraith still haunts me. I see him watching me from afar. As if he is actually the one in control of me. Most of my powers have returned, and in fact I have come to bear a few more than before. My physical strength and ability to do manual tasks has also increased. I feel stronger than ever, but this nagging and mental banishment from my own home has caused a great weight on my head.

I have also acquired some gifts and such that will prove very useful in the future. I have gone to Habren Ashe to discuss their uses, as some are foreign to me. Recently, however, I have found a formidable foe that for some reason seems to be tougher than mooncalves and feral zombies that I have grown accustomed to felling in the quarantine zone. These zombie dogs are vicious, but luckily I was in good company that night and had help. Otherwise, I feel I would be in the fade for a while, as I couldn't seem to get the knack of taking them out.

Staying away from my apartment has provided some much needed respite from the flutter of that lone locust, but sleeping during the day there has proven near impossible. Besides the construction work above me by the military, when I do finally begin to get some rest that damned wraith appears in my dreams. Even my own head is not a sanctuary.
Yesterday, I awoke in a fright as I dreamt I was being consumed, not just bitten to the point of bleeding, nay...consumed by locusts. As if they were rending my flesh from my bone.

I was gone for 7 days. I was attacked for failing to uphold the masquerade. Despite my best efforts to feed safely and to avoid attracting attention, somehow my identity was discovered. It seems the heat has died down in my absence, but the Fade is still not so pleasant. Despite my link to the spirit world, I was not productive nor did I rest well while I was in the fade. I still haven't slept, but my mind seems clearer now. While in the fade, I could see Moirai, my uncontrollable wraith. He was following a soldier who seems to be high ranking at the Mausoleum. I am unsure what the link between the two is, but I plan to investigate.

I have attempted multiple times to track down COL Brightbach, the soldier that my wraith has such an affinity to. Despite my best efforts, I have not been able to corner him. He seems to be very elusive for a human, but of course that could be because of the immense security measures around the mausoleum. I will attempt again today. I hope that Matt doesn't lose his concentration this time.
