He had never particularly enjoyed the job, but it had been paying the bills. The money could have been better, he supposed. Though with the current economy, he was not about to just up and quit - there was no way of knowing whether he would ever find another job. But for the past week, the checks had stopped coming in. That was a problem for Asher, as he was still doing the work and spending his precious time and energy on helping the business to thrive.
The man had no doubts about his ability. When it came to the mundane and routine, Asher excelled. He loved lists and organization, though he doubted many knew that about him. Part of the reason he had been such an excellent police officer had been his attention to detail, his knack for noticing what others failed to. Compared to others in his job market, he knew he was a rare find. There was, of course, the small matter of preventing incoming viruses from hindering the business he worked at. He was far from a tech geek, but he knew enough to make himself useful.
For a long few minutes, he simply stared at his desk. Risk leaving or stay and hope for the best? Truth was, it was never really an option. He was not a patient man. Reaching for a pen, Asher scribbled out a letter of resignation.
- Zachariah,
First, allow me to thank you for the job opportunity you presented. I understand that trusting one such as myself was not an easy thing to do, yet you gave me the chance to work for you at a mutual benefit. My employment here, the first since my turning, has been an experience I will never forget.
However, I regret to inform you that I have chosen to take my talents elsewhere. In spite of the claims you made that I would receive a raise, I have not received a pay check from you in over a week. While I understand you must be a busy man, I can not afford to spend my time working for nothing.
As this is not a two week notice, I do not expect a severance package nor will I expect the pay I am owed for the hours I have worked.
Once again, thank you for the opportunity. I hope your business thrives without me.
Sincerely,
Asher

Looking for a job was not as easy as he might have expected it to be. Having been out of the employment market for years, he was entirely unsure of how to approach the situation. As he stared at the screen and the variety of businesses in the city, he gave his jaw a frustrated scratch. Then it hit him. While he detested using CrowNet, the Business section of it was filled with want ads - yet not a single resume. Asher had always had a habit of separating himself from the masses, and this seemed the most obvious solution. Fingers flew over his keyboard and in a matter of minutes, he had hammered out the most basic of resumes. It was far from impressive, but the fact that it was the only one on CrowNet spoke volumes. Hitting the Enter key, he contented himself with a satisfied grin.
Next came applying for jobs. He was nothing if not proactive, and he would not wait for someone to call him. As he pulled up the list of the most popular and wealthiest businesses in the city, his gaze skimmed over the information quickly. He was looking for staff listings. One of the many benefits of his newly acquired Appraisal was the ability to find out if he was better than someone else at something. As it turned out, he was. Checking his own abilities against those of the employees already hired at these establishments, Asher came to realize he was more qualified than a good many of them, if only marginally. Where he found such cases, he applied for jobs.
By the time he was done, he had applied for a total of ten postings. Now it was simply a matter of waiting to see what happened.
