Why Won't You Just Die!?!?

Post by Madison »

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Madison wasn't happy with herself as she trolled through the abandoned multiplex in the quarantine zone. In the last few days she had been royally screwing up. She had been spotted feeding every day for the last three or four days, in spots that she normally had no trouble finding a quick bite. Then two days before she had killed a Harper Rock police officer. She hadn't meant to and in all honesty, it was in self defense. All of that combined her had landed Madison on that damned bounty list. The last time she had died for it, that wasn't going to be happening again.

Ignoring all the other vampires that were milling around and avoiding the zombies, for they weren't worth as much as the feral vampires, she wandered from theatre to theatre searching for the more elusive creature. In the far back theatre, Madison found something much worse than the ferals. A mooncalf was one of the most grotesque creatures she had ever seen. This one had three arms that she could see and two mouths filled with sharpened teeth. She watched as it moved down an aisle of seats, picking up pieces of fallen zombies and ferals and eating them. A shudder coursed through her. Ever since she had encountered one as a blood thief with Alexandrea the very first time she had come to the quarantine zone, Madison had avoided these abominations at all costs. She was much stronger than what she had been then and she had been told that they were worth as much as a feral to the invisible Crow.

The mooncalf had noticed her and was slowly making its way towards her. That's when she noticed that it was already missing a few of its many appendages. Maybe, just maybe she'd be able to take this one on. It was worth a shot, she was so close to being off the bounty list and she knew one more day on there would probably see her killed. Pulling out the fine broadsword she had won at the Moonlight Auction from Jonah, Madison took off running towards the mooncalf. With a push, she jumped on top of a seat and ran across the tops of them til she reached the aisle the creature was in. Summersaulting over the mooncalf's head, she landed behind it and swung her blade at it. Not expecting for the mooncalf to have eyes on the back side as well, it caught her by surprise when the creature reached up and caught the blade in its hand. The edge dug into its hand but the mooncalf was unphased by the wound.

Dropping the broadsword, Madison backtracked away from the mooncalf to give her enough time to pull out her shotgun. Knowing the weapon was fully loaded, Madison sprinted towards the mooncalf and leaped over it once more in attempts to keep it confused. Her body twisted in mid-air so that she was facing the creature and managed to get a few shots before she landed in a roll on the ground. The acrobatics didn't seem to help her much as her shots went wide of the creature and none of them hit. Determined to perfect the move she had just pulled out of her ***, Madison got up and tried again in the opposite direction. This time her shot was true and she narrowly missed the creature's heart, that is if it indeed had one.

Taking cover a few rows away from the mooncalf, Madison shot at it over the backs of the seats. Again her shots missed. Cursing under her breath, she kept an eye on the creature as she reloaded her weapon. The mooncalf was starting to get too close for comfort and her sword was on the ground a few aisles away. Shooting blindly at the mooncalf, Madison managed to graze the monster's skin without much affect. Trying her new move once again, Madison left the cover of the theatre seats and launched herself over the mooncalf. Her shots hit their mark but did very little damage. This angered her to no end and she charged at the mooncalf, pumping off shot after shot. The mooncalf managed to dodge every shot but Madison was unrelenting as she continued to shoot at it. Two shots hit the mooncalf in the stomach and side this time!

She went to shoot the creature again and the triggered clicked but did not fire. Out of shells. Backing up, Madison quickly reloaded her weapon. Fully loaded once more, Madison started back towards the creature, firing off at it. The mooncalf let out a grunt as the slugs hit it and then roared in anger as it began to charge her. Standing her ground, she shot at it again. The force of the slugs sent the mooncalf stumbling backwards. Encouraged by this, Madison let out a roar of her own and lept at the mooncalf but it dodged out of the way of her shot. Knowing she was almost empty again, Madison backed herself up into the wall of the theatre as she reloaded for the third time. She was not going to give up. She was going to kill this thing.

Not liking being caught between the wall and the mooncalf, Madison took two shots at the creature. Again the mooncalf let out a grunt and it started to charge towards her angrily. Moving quickly Madison took a few steps and dove into an aisle. The floor was sticky from dried blood and goo from vampires and other monsters alike. Getting to her knees, Madison watched the mooncalf shuffle towards her, blood oozing out of its many wounds. Why wouldn't the damn thing just die already!?

Getting up from her knees, Madison started back towards the mooncalf and began firing at it once more. Not a damn one did anything major and the mooncalf lunged at her, throwing all of its weight into the motion. Reacting on instinct, she threw herself to the ground and slid under the mooncalf's reach, shooting at it the entire time. Again, any that hit did little to no damage to the creature and it seemed impervious to the pain. Letting off another shot before she got up off the ground the mooncalf staggered as this one hit it square in the chest.

For the next ten to fifteen minutes the battle continued on. She was lucky she carried so much ammo on her as she had to reload at least ten times. But Madison was determined to kill the creature as it had yet to get close enough to take a swing at her and she was still unharmed. Even though the damn thing was taking forever to die, she had a newfound respect for the creature. It took the damage and pain in stride and just kept on trucking. The mooncalf was obviously not one of the smartest creatures though as it didn't seem to have a sense of self-preservation. Madison had pumped at least twenty to thirty shots into it and it never once tried to flee. When the mooncalf had finally sustained too much damage to carry on and fell to the floor, she looked at it with a sense of pity. Putting the muzzle of her shotgun up against what she believed to be the main portion of the mooncalf's head she unleashed one last shot into its brain.

Madison had just killed her first mooncalf.

With a triumphant cry Madison did a little dance with a twirl in the aisle of the theatre. She was feeling quite proud of herself at the moment and wanted to take a trophy of her victory. Walking down the side aisle, she searched for the broadsword she had dropped at the beginning of the fight. It was only a few aisles away and she picked it up to take back to the body. Setting her shotgun to the side, Madison raised the sword over her head and took a mighty swing at one of the mooncalf's arms. The blade went through the flesh like butter but stopped short of going through the entire bone. One more hack was all it took to sever the arm. Stuffing it into her bag, Madison checked her bounty with her mind. Off the list. As she left the multiplex and the quarantine zone there was a large **** eating grin plastered on her face.
