“What all is in this salad, Puppet?” Kira asked as she poked around with her fork. “Better not be those mushrooms I saw you with earlier.”
“Why not? Don’t like mushrooms..?” Puppet replied.
“What is there to like? They’re a fungus…and you have to be careful because some might kill you. Not that I have to worry about that but…don’t want to eat them.” Kira said but she couldn’t tell what was what in the salad with the way he had it set up.
“Then no, there’s no mushrooms..” Puppet said as he started to eat.
Kira stared at him for a moment and sighed. Against her better judgment, she ate it.
Later on Kira has fallen asleep on the sofa. It wasn’t until she felt something somewhat heavy on her chest that she started to stir. She felt like what seemed like tapping, rather patiently. “Come on missy. Wake up..” an rather unfamiliar voice said, the accent sounded Irish.
She reached a hand up and rubbed at one eye before slowing opening it. When she caught sight of the person…or rather thing in question that awake her, she opened her other eye. She stared blankly for a moment. ‘I must still be dreaming..’ she thought. There was plump older man about three feet tall there, wearing green with a red coat. She reached hand out, expecting it not be real but before she reached him, he had disappeared. She sighed softy. “Good it is a dream..”
“Oh no its’ not.” The voice said, now from the back of the sofa.
Kira sat up, her green eyes focused on four of them now. “What the..” she said. “Dreaming about bloody Leprechauns..” she said, rubbing at her eyes again. She felt awake anyway. She looked again but they were still there. “Oh great. I’ve gone off the deep end.”
“Hey there, shut up. We got something to say here.” Another spoke, who looked even older then the first one while the other two looked younger.
“You’re a bloody hallucination.” Kira snapped. “Leprechauns are not real.”
“Oh really now? And vampires were always thought to be real.” He replied smugly.
Kira frowned, it had a point. “Yes well, they are believed to be fairy related…and that might mean you could be Fae..” she said, her mind drifting off to the time she lost her leg to one. With there being four of them they could each have a limb and that would be awful. She got up and quickly moved away from the sofa, keeping an eye on them.
“We’re not taking your limbs deary. Not getting into what exactly we could be here so listen up already.” He said patiently.
“Gathor, are you sure we got the right one?” one of the younger ones asked.
“Yes damn it now shut up.” Gathor replied, glaring at the younger man before looking at Kira again. “Now, we need you to come with us.”
“Oh sure, I’ll just follow the little men dressed in green. That’s a great idea.” Kira snapped, “Man I must be trippin on something.”
“Alright, that does it.” Gathor grumbled, he moved his hand towards the kitchen. Every pot and pan lifted up in the air and was thrown at her.
Kira tried to get out of the way but she felt the door against her back, and she held up her arms to protect her head. “Ow, damn it.” She said as she lowered her arms, the burses that showed up quickly healed. “I’ve heard of stoning but potting or panning?” she said.
“Hardy har.” Gathor said, “Want to try sharp objects?” he added as the knives started to float in the air.
Kira put her hands up. “Okay okay! Damn it.” She said, she didn’t want to see how this turned out. It wouldn’t feel very good to have all those knives go into her. “Angry little guys aren’t you.”
The knives dropped to the floor, sticking into the hard wood flooring which made Kira growl at them.
“Alright, out the door with ya.” Gathor said though was giving a challenging stare to Kira’s glare.
Kira turned the doorknob and opened the door. “Being kidnap by bloody Leprechauns.” She muttered. She still believed that they were fae of some sort, she heard that there were ones that were tricksters.
She got outside, she heard several sets of footsteps behind her which made her turn, not wanting her back towards them.
“Paranoid aren’tcha?” Gathor said with a grin, Kira figured now he must be the leader of this group if it was just on how old he looked alone.
“Have Leprechauns trying to kidnap me who can give me a run for my money, what do you think goirid tèile.” Kira replied, walking backwards as they walked towards her.
“Don’t think we don’t know what ya saying lassie.” The second oldest said, “Don’t be poking fun at our size.”
Kira sighed, “Mind telling what you want with me? Where are we going?” she asked simply.
Gathor pointed off towards the wilderness. “That way.” He said.
“Ah hell no.” Kira said, the thought of having limbs taken again popped up into her mind.
“Get going or we’ll see how small we can compact you and roll you that way.” Gathor said simply.
Kira stared at the grumpy little man, trying to judge if he was serious but she couldn’t see any reason not to believe the threat. It sounded rather painful, worse than the broken back in different directions that Mama had given her. “Really wish you’d tell me what this is all about..” she said.
“You’ll see.” He snapped. “Get going.”
Kira growled. She wasn’t sure if she could kill them all before one could stop her. She searched for her cell phone, hoping she could get a message off to someone for help but she didn’t find it. ’Just great..’ she thought. Then again, she wasn’t sure what these things were so it was best not to cause trouble for anyone else. She was just screwed at this point. They were going to kill her, she heard the shadow realm was rather boring so she knew she wouldn’t be able to stand it.
She headed into the taller grass, trying to keep her mind off the what ifs.
They kept herding her further away from the comforts of paved roads and a new worry popped into her head. Sunrise. She had never been caught out in the sun before and she didn’t want to start.
“We are here.” Gathor said.
“Where’s that exactly!” Kira hissed. All she saw was some tree with an opening near the base, there was nothing else here besides grass.
“You’re looking at it lass.” One of the younger ones replied.
Kira looked at them, the hole wasn’t even big enough for them, let alone her. “You got to be kidding me.” She said.
“Nope.” He replied before Gathor snapped his fingers.
