The businessman had put up another open door event. Everyone had their ID's checked at the door by someone he trusted, a lady who'd been working with him almost since the start. She'd keep their identities secret. They were there purely for security, and they'd be on camera of course which helped. This time, paladins would be easier to watch. And he had some security, more for monitoring purposes. He hoped there wouldn't be fighting this time.
There was food, drinks, though Segreti couldn't sell human blood for legal reasons he had managed to get animal blood. Just not a whole lot due to certain refrigeration and cleanliness necessities. He eventually went up on stage to speak, "Hello, as some certainly remember. These things don't always go well. I took a number of extra precautions this time. Precautions that paladins, vampires, gangsters, sorcerers, all of them, are going to find more difficult to subvert." he said running his fingers through his hair remembering the ritual he preformed, ”Now, as anyone who knows me already is aware. I am not for a lot of the rules that vampires are dealing with. I want unity between us all. But this is about the current governmental establishment. Mayor Wyatt Bancroft. Guy likes art, some form of history, and his election had a lot to do with helping people. You’d think I’d get along with someone like him in office. But the more I’ve seen his record, and the current state of affairs, the less convinced I am.”
Segreti leaned against the podium, looking out at those in the crowd, ”Mayor Bancroft failed. At a lot of things. The Quarantine zone got so bad they’ll basically hire anyone to help. There a slums full of gangsters. They’re so clear I could give you directions, and you can go find organized crime almost universally armed with firearms, so his gun control didn’t turn out so well either. The vampires that actually are known for causing problems, such as the Lionelli, remain organized and functioning.”
Segreti looked as if he was tired of the man, but clearly cared about what he was saying, ”So what good has he accomplished almost anyone else couldn’t have?” He asked trying to push it further, ”The only thing this man has really changed, is these rules on vampires. Making them no longer considered really people anymore. Making them need to have chips, need to have ID’s, be checked regularly, putting them at risk at any turn. But, of course, this works primarily on the ones who are already weaker or more likely to be peaceful? And what good is it going to do, knowing they’re a vampire? It won’t really stop them if the ones that got the chip, and do turn out to be bad, decide to do something they shouldn’t? All this does is further alienate vampires from humans.”
”And what will he do when that happens? Well, he personally won’t do anything. The soldiers and cops will do all the work, by shooting the vampire. If they even can keep up with them. If he makes this war he’s going to rely on paladins, sorcerers, blood thieves, and whatever other supernatural humans he can get. But we can die. They’d just return. He can’t resolve this by the methods he’s using.” It was clear there was energy in Segreti, he wasn’t here advocating himself as a replacement however. Segreti was a businessman, not a politician. But the first step to fixing a problem, was removing one of the factors, ”Historically, what do you think happens when two groups become separated even more than they were before? They end up fighting. Usually, the side with greater numbers wins. I’m not convinced that’s what would happen now. I am convinced that people would die. Only not all of them will come back. You don’t know what vampires go through when they die, you can’t experience it unless you are one of them as far as I know. But let’s say it’s like our death, and we don’t know how that is either, would you be willing to actually die to figure it out? Because, sooner or later, paladins and hunters aren’t just going to stop with vampires. Just like how the Nazi’s did with the Jews, homosexuals, gypsies. Yeah people say that’s an over-used comparison, it’d help if people didn’t end up mimicking them wouldn’t it?”
He leaned back, calming down a bit, ”I’m generally a pretty chill guy when things irritate me personally. But this isn’t going the way Bancroft tries to treat vampires. This is the way he treated the entire city. Failing at nearly every turn to do anything truly meaningful. I don’t want to take his place, it’s a tough job I admit that. And a dangerous one. Strange though you don’t hear much about anyone going for him, given he’s alienated an entire species of beings with powers. You’d think they’d try and kill him if they were as violent as he acts.” He took a long drink of the water next to him, then took in a breath, ”I want an election. I want someone else in office. I could leave easily, make money somewhere else. Or heck I could stay and still make money. But not everyone gets that chance. I want people to be able to actually live in Harper Rock again. Not just because they’re too stubborn or ‘adventurous’ to leave. Or because they can’t. And I don’t see that happening under Bancroft. Now, this will stay open. Eat, drink, talk. We’ll be open for hours. I’ll probably be here for a good bit of it.”[/color
Segreti got off the stage stepping into the crowd, there was some music started. Though he’d get some live on stage in time. For now, he wanted to calm down a little. Let people think about what he said.
Segreti had attempted an event in regards to just vampires before, this time however, it was about Bancroft. He understood the fear involved that people had, but he wasn't going to easily step down just because of that. The mayor, in Segreti's eyes, was failing to do his job. Even if he was legitimately afraid of the vampire threat, what about the numerous issues that Harper Rock till had? They'd had slums filled with gangsters for who knows how long, the Lionelli weren't held down still, and instead people who could be perfectly fine were regularly put in danger purely because they weren't mortal anymore.OOC: Eirene's Will has been cast on this location: Summon an invisible demifae spirit to the area, making it impossible to commit violence or use certain powers in that place for 24 hours.
