Solo Story for Mora - pushing for harmony and ease between both races, whilst working on character development on Mora coming back from the realm, and rebuilding the library - reflected IC for whats currently being done on grid.
Tendrils of blonde hair swayed in the wind as she walked the streets of Harper Rock. She had been asleep by her husband's side for two years. Perhaps she was the first to slumber between the two of them before Judas following suit shortly after. The two were linked. Bound for eternity. As her emerald eyes opened to the streets before her, her pale hand lifted to gaze upon her silver ring hung on her marriage finger. A token, and promise to him forevermore.
Shortly after waking she had killed herself. The loneliness of Judas had filled her as she saw no movement from him; she had waited days for him to move, perhaps he would sense that she was awake and he too would wake from his slumber.
She had even tried dream walking. She had dreamed of him often. In Judas’s dreams he was no longer Judas but Cai. A gentle soul. She loved both, and both belonged to her and only her.
She had childer, but they slept too. Some succumbed to death's embrace, and she was ok with that. It hurt her to have that link severed but perhaps their souls at peace. That was how sweet ol’ Morghan saw it. She had always been peaceful. She was old compared to most vampires who walked Harper Rock. She could sense the newness of them, but could feel their strength. Out with the old and in with the new, she thought idly. She wore a white pinafore dress this evening. Perhaps the wrong choice of fashion considering it was a cold autumns eve and there was shadows lurking everywhere. She was not acting like a human, vampires aren't easily distracted by the cold. A passerby looked her up and down as she veered towards Honeymead.
“Isn’t she cold?” They whispered to one another.
Mora blinked her eyes at them slowly, almost doe like and nodded my. The flesh of her skin pink. She could blend in with them. “Oh, I am dear. Left my cardigan in the-“ she was about to say crypt and stopped herself. “Supermarket” she finished telling a small lie. One of them looked her over and nodded.
“We’ll hurry home, love. It’s been forecast to rain later.”
Mora nodded and whispered thanks before heading north west away from the two gentlemen that looked her over curiously.
Memories swelled inside the woman. Her time in Harper Rock was certainly eventful. She had been hunted as a fledgling for her bounty. Hellequin had been the one who had sired her and left her for dead on the side of the street almost seven years ago. He was the childe of Isabelle Noble - of the Noble lineage. An elder, original vampire - Hellequin had aired no one else, she was his one and only and his blood undiluted within her - a direct link to Isabelle. Elizabeth had found her and gave her a home - taught her how to be a vampire. Did what Hellequin could never do for her - she had a hatred for him, even now after all this time. Shortly after she had severed herself from the Noble lineage and formed her own. She needed no one by herself. She had met Cai in Liz’s company - was fond of him. Miss Mora he’d call her and it was years later that they came together - in love and eloped with a select viewing, and that had been the way it had been for years.
A soft smile carved into her human-like features as she came upon the library. Her second home, or had been. XD She loved books, those new book smells were her favourite but she had always wanted to live in a library and that was partly the reason she had purchased the building. She wanted to share knowledge and protect fledglings. Those left aside by their creators like she had been. She was passionate. She had tried to start it but there was so much hatred, and tension with Harper that her business hadn’t taken off and so the doors of the library had lost their luster and welcome as she abandoned the hope and dream of the library.
On the red brick beside the door there was a flyer. She peeled it from the brick. The sound of paper ripping away - what had they used? Gorilla glue? She brought it up to eye level and read the words out loud.
“Death to vampires.” She gasped just reading the first line. “Order of Saint James” she blinked and crumpled up the piece of paper and threw it into the bin. Scoffing. Why couldn’t they live together in harmony? There were cults cropping up everywhere these days - well no, not these days as she was unknown to these days after sleeping for so long, but she knew what she had meant.
She pushed open the rusted door handle - wood splinters falling to the ground as she entered the building. The library was cold, and bare - as if someone had looted it, and the books with it - a pile of ash in the centre alongside fire smudges - someone had burnt HER books. She inwardly sobbed as she slowly moved over to the pile of burnt ash and touched it, the little scraps of paper sieved through her fingertips. These books had been her pride and joy.
She had let them down. Full of so many stories, they had been a comfort to so many people. The library had been busy with activity, back in the day and now there was none. Well, how could there be?
Gangsters had come in and used it as a makeshift crack den. Bookshelves pushed the back, some broken and used for kindling. She turned to the east to look at where the terminal used to be to look at a broken computer. A crack in the monitor. She pushed her thumb against the power button and there was no life there. To be perfectly honest it did need replacing it was an old tower PC running on windows 98 who even used those retro things nowadays.
Mora had always been an old fashioned person, even when she was a human. The way the library was now upset her. She was close to tears, and guilt racked inside her. She had let it get this bad. She turned around and headed out the door. She was determined to make it better. Forest green eyes snapped to a man who was pushed on a woman, from a far she couldn’t tell she was a vampire but the man’s hand was pushing down on the neck of the vampire, getting her to try and submit - he had a gadget in his hand and was trying to push it towards her skin, she shrieked and wriggled to get out of his grasp.
Mora wanted to help, but she knew what it was already, it was one of the many soldiers that paraded around Harper Rock now. Microchipping vampires like they were dogs on a leash. She had noticed barricades around the airports - it was like a check in system. The more closely she looked the more she could see flyers, expressing their hatred for vampires even more.
She pulled her tome out of her handbag and opened it up, the paper crumpled against her fingers as she pressed on it - the world around her shifting and changing as she ended back up in the crypt. Full dressed she climbed back into the double bed at the back of the crypt passing the crafting bench as she went, her fingers trailing against the soft woodwork.
She nestled into Judas’s soft, slumbering frame. Masses of golden locks, tickled at his sleeping body - there was no movement.
“I’ve seen the violence outside” she was on about the female vampire being man handled by the soldier “It’s unsettling, why can’t we get along.” She sighed then, laying her head upon his unmoving chest. Vampires didn’t breathe, or have a heartbeat; he was a pristine statue. A gorgeous one at that. “I’m going to make a safe place, in all this chaos.” She smiled. “I’m going to rebuild the library. Make it a safe place for all, humans and vampires alike who want to escape this madness”. It was like a light bulb moment. “You’d be proud of me, husband.” Loneliness ensued which was quickly subdued by a warmth in her belly. A warm feeling of purpose. She had work to do it seemed, a lot of it.
Her eyes closed, sleep taking her as she let herself drift off into the darkness that pulled on her ever so gently. Dreaming of Judas, in their beautiful garden of Eden. She knew this was not the real Judas, but this was her mind's Judas and that was enough for now.
