The Hunt

Post by Mason »

Mason looked in the mirror, seeing nothing. That was something that was just so confusing to her. It wasn't like she'd lost a body. She even still had a shadow. So why then was it that there was no reflection? She had known a lot about vampires when she was a paladin. Seen them die and rise again sometime later. For those who came back, it almost made sense that there wasn't a reflection. Maybe they were made of something that wasn't as material as it seemed to be. But why was it that a body that was human, didn't show up? It still didn't completely make sense.

She let out a sigh, putting on a coat as she stepped into the hallway and headed outside. A sword and pistol hidden underneath. No matter how many times she did it, she didn't trust vampires. She no longer had that potential for death like normal people did. And in many ways that scared her. She had heard of the shadow realm, mostly from her victims really. Back when she was a fanatic, it was her way of sending them to prison.

Now she was a bit more...specific on who she sent there. Only those she really believed were causing harms by their direct action. Still, one way or another. She was a hunter. Paladin or Vampire, that hadn't changed. She was what she was now. And it didn't change. She still believed vampirism was a disease itself. Something she could only yearn could be completely destroyed one day. But that day was not today. And until that time came, all that she could do was try and curb the crime that would inevitably rise up.

She avoided dealing with humans of the same kind. Because while sending a vampire to the shadow realm might be a punishment. It was nowhere near as extreme as that a human could experience. If she ran into it during a crime, or could tell someone was doing something awful with no signs of stopping, maybe she'd intervene. But that was not her place. She was only going to pass punishment on those she knew the consequences of.

And one day, maybe she'd be the one sent to the shadow realm. She feared that day, but knew that one day it would come. When, and how, was irrelevant. She believed it was inevitable. Completely and totally. She just wasn't sure what it would be like. Sure she'd heard. But that didn't mean that it would do justice to it.

One day, the hunter would die. And when she returned perhaps her views might be less extreme, or even more so. Only time would tell.
