This is true even without Appraisal. Not sure what's special about that green question mark, but there must be something.

The ring of hacking is doing it as well, so I changed the title to reflect both bugs and marked it as a b, as it's not harming anyone else so far, and it doesn't seem to really be advancing gameplay much, even with the stack. :)
