A Rude Awakening(Open)

Post by Edenor »

It had been far too long since he last walked the streets of Harper Rock, or even opened his eyes for that matter. He wasn't really sure why he had been asleep so long as he finally roused from his slumber, nor what had disturbed him enough to wake him. Maybe the monotonous routine he had fallen into, perhaps a lack of interest in the goings on of the life around him in the city, or maybe just an urge to sleep had finally done him in well enough to stay pretty much catatonic but he was awake and hungry now. Near ravenous after his months of stupor in his apartment.

As he made his way outside to feed he found things had changed considerably, or at least felt it to be so. Odd looks as he moved about the streets, a tension that was nearly tangible in the air. It took him only an hour to feed enough to feel barely normal again and thats when he really started to pay attention, or at least could, now that his hunger was no longer his driving force. Soldiers seemed to be scattered all over the place in the city now and while he didnt seem to much care at first that quickly changed as he was shouted at by one to stop for inspection. Having no idea of what had changed he shrugged it off and continued as he always would have only to hear the loud crack of a gun behind him.

The pain was the first indicator to him that something was very, seriously wrong. His leg on fire he no longer just simply ignored and walked away. He immedietely began to run, dashing into a dark alley as he heard the soldier behind him giving chase, firing wantonly at him but thankfully missing. As soon as he was out of sight he grabbed a ladder and dashed madly for the rooftops stopping only once he reached it and took stock of his wound. Evaporating shadows leaked from the wound, he should note wounds really as at least teh bullet had gone in the back of his thigh, and out the side which made him frown. At least it explained why it hurt so bad, he had hoped it was a simple through and through but as he tore his shirt and wrapped his leg before pulling his pants back up he knew it must have hit his femur and deflected out. This would be a ***** of a wound that he would simply need to suffer for several days as it healed.

Deciding he needed to know what was going on for a soldier to so brazenly try and stop, and then shoot at him in the middle of a street like this was commonplace he went back to his apartment. Being as careful as he could while he traveled he still got shot at twice more but thankfully wasn't hit again. Finally reaching home he went on the net and what he read through made him gnash his teeth in anger. So it seemed that now he was meant to be registered, some special license, like he was stuck in Germany in the 1930s and he would not stand for it. Or at least not comply consequences be damned. Even if it were to get him killed he would wage his own war against any that tried to stop him if need be.

For now though he must get a real feel for just how bad things were and once more left his home, through the sewers this time in order to return to the catacombs. He needed to move his body, he could feel how rusty he was just trying to escape from the soldiers previously, once he was feeling right with himself again he would be able to explore the surface and see what it would take to not only avoid those soldiers looking for his kind, but to begin killing as well. It was not nearly the best of plans but in his anger directed at those who would harm and kill him he did not care. If one came he would kill one, if a thousand came he would kill a thousand, or at least make them pay in blood and lives to remove him from this world.

[Against_Peace]The sights and smells in the catacombs were the first welcoming thing to him since he had woken. He didnt bother with the zombies, even as rusty as he was bound to be the shuffling things were barely a threat worth bothering with. The Mooncalfs though provided a proper fight, albeit usually a short one and the Greater Mooncalfs even more so, several times causing small wounds on his body as they fought before their eventual defeat. As muscle memory took hold and became sharper and faster as he battled he knew there was not much reason to be down here any longer.

Covered in gore as he was, with tattered clothes to boot he knew he couldn't very well venture outside this way and returned to his home, washing quickly before putting on a black shirt and jeans followed by his small arsenal of weapons he always wore out and then a slightly loose jacket over the top to help hide them as he got ready for his one man war only to be interrupted by the chiming of his phone. Glancing at it curiously he saw a new mail message, the name unfamiliar but the message quite welcome considering what he had woken to.
Hey there I found a ton of evidence on you which I
made disappear. I am not looking for thanks but I
am going to suggest you be a lot more careful. If
you need help ask. If you are getting into trouble
on purpose, don`t be shocked if you end up with a
lot of holes in you. And the more holes you end up
with, the harder everything gets and the more
bounty hunters will be tempted to hunt you. Once
again, if you want help. Ask. Otherwise, be good or
be dead. Cheers! :D

A response was sent off to this Alexandrea person, whomever she was at least it meant there were those that still were willing to help, even if it was just something done on a whim it was better than awakening and being completely alone as he had expected things to be after what he had read that had angered him so. A one time grace was still enough for him to remember the favor to be repair when and as he could since it was not his way to owe anyone even if unsolicited.

That being handled he left his apartment.

Stepping out of the building and taking a deep unneeded breath to see what smells were around it didn't take more than a moment to disappear into the shadows nearby and begin his hunt. It started out well enough, the first soldier fell silently to his blade as it stabbed silently from behind to run through the vertebra of his neck. The only sound the thump of a body hitting the ground and the sword being slid free from the pile of meat that used to be a person. The second managed to somehow luckily avoid an outright fatal strike however and though her death came just as swiftly, it wasnt in time to stop the gunshot that rang out before she crumpled.

It went downhill from there though as the area was instantly on a much higher alert than before the gunfire had erupted. Deciding that it was best to strike quickly while he still could before things completely devolved into a storm of chaos he had to grudgingly admit he couldn't handle alone he raced down several more alleys, popping out twice more on soldiers that failed to notice him in time, his gun firing off with abandon as he gunned down the soldiers he had come across. A cop was the next unfortunate, showing up as he dropped his fourth (and what would be his last soldier of the evening) and got a shot off striking him in the same leg he had been hit already making him draw a hissing breath as the pain lanced through him. The cop didnt survive much past that time though as his gun was clicked over to fully automatic and sprayed hot lead through the man before he could radio his position.

The chase started from there as he fled this area of the city knowing full well that many would be after him for this. Using the shadows to the best of his abilities but still wound up shot again as he rounded a corner only to be hit in the stomach sending him doubling over in pain and clutching his stomach. There was no time though and he simply ran, better to be shot and flee than to stay to die at this moment.

Finally escaping by rail as he jumped onto the nearest line and made his way towards the police station in Bullwood fully expecting to be filled with lead the moment he entered, especially looking the way he did with shadows leaking from multiple wounds now across his body. It was a risk he knew but also had heard that just like so many other places around the world, grease the right palms and the issues would all disappear. The price was damn near extortion but he had no choice but to pay it and once that was done breathed a sigh of relief. Now to return and heal at home away from the prying eyes of the public, soldiers and police whos actions wouldnt be stopped by his bribing of someone up the chain.

Pulling out his phone once more he checked the wanted lists and seeing his name and the price for him his eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets. His head was worth near a third of what he had just paid to get the bounty off his life but even then it seemed extraordinarily high for just the lives of a few soldiers and cop. But even as he stared in disbelief the bounty changed and he was worth near nothing and he found himself glad for listening to the gossip of the city for once. Pulling the hood of his jacket up he made for home, staying away from the transit lines just in case of an overzealous person looking to still take his head were to be on the lookout or way home.
