The Clocktower

The roof of the Clocktower in Wickbridge is busier than usual as several small but brightly coloured unidentified flying objects zip back and forth along the riverfront and occasionally buzz a confused tourist or two before racing back out of sight and into one of the many open penthouse windows.

Smoke from an open fire improperly contained also streams out of those same windows... tinted in various colours and scented with applewood chips and cloves.

All the doors stand propped open to make it easier for fresh air and bodies to mingle and at both entryways, there are huge signboards that are flooded with blacklights and that have information written on both sides.

Taking the time to read any of these four surfaces will reveal the following information, which is written in fluorescent green large block letters on a black dry erase board:

"Welcome to the Q's annual Devil's Night/Halloween party! Please feel free to explore the main room and apartments number 1, where the Q Movie Theater will be playing seasonal fun non-stop, and apartment 13... where there is way too much food and drink available! And of course, over near the staircase we also have the cash bar that's right next to the bonfire! (cus keeping open alcohol next to an open fire is always a great idea! 8-X )

Tonight's big game is a scavenger hunt! But this isn't your Mama's old fashioned scavenger hunt, this is a scavenger hunt for the modern-day! Rather than collecting a lot of random junk from all over the city, you will need to take a 'selfie' of yourself in the various locations shown... once you find them! There will be winners for each category, with the top scores getting first picks from the prizes table."

"Although not all of your targets are in public areas, as of the time of this writing, none of the locations were impossible to get into or trapped in any way. Please remember to always be respectful of all properties, businesses and homes."

Below the message, the board has been divided into three sections with 25 different selfies of Alexandrea Quartermaine in each.

The grouping of the left (Easy) are marked as 100 points each, the middle set (Challenging) are all 200 points and the remaining 25 selfies (Hard) are all worth 300 points.

A list of 'dares' is carefully written in smaller block letters beneath the selfie examples, with a note that explains how each one can add even more points to a contestants total.

Tied with silver ribbon to the sides and top of both of the signboards are clear helium-filled balloons, painted with glow in the dark moons and stars. More of the same float freely throughout the room at random levels, dragging curled lengths of silver ribbon behind and up higher wrapped around the exposed and polished copper pipe are tiny twinkling lights.

The rest of the decorations are a careful mix of the creepy, the spooky and the spacey... with just a touch of the raunchy tossed in for extra flair.

Tables are arranged to leave room for dancing near the jukebox and each table is set up with treats, tricks, and more games to be played.

Chance rode the elevator up to Alexandrea’s party, not sure why he even decided to attend but he found he couldn’t refuse her invitation especially with the location in the Clocktower. His costume was real enough but still comfortable and the browncoat proved warmer than he intended. He pulled off the large gloves and stuffed them into the pockets as the elevator doors opened onto the top floor. The smell of the scented bonfire made him smile, not something he would of expected in the middle of the city like this even in Harper Rock.

He made his way around the tables and onward to the bar as he inspected the decorations around and the slight haze forming at the ceiling giving an almost eerie glow to the room. “Rum and Coke, please” he ordered a drink as it just seemed appropriate considering the ongoing party. Covering the cost of the drink and a generous tip, he thanked the bartender with the slight twang of a western, well practised since he received the invitation but he wouldn’t say it was good yet but at least it was in character for the night.

With a drink in hand, he made towards the balcony. Finding an open spot at the balcony, removed the coat to lay over the rail in front of him as he opened the UFO Racer to join in with the other guests around him. The racer sped off the balcony and into the sky, lights blinking as it floated after the others dropping towards the city streets.
