Searchinjg for echoes (Zaphyra)

Many had told her in the past that things like this was a total waste of time.

In reply she had told many what they could do to themselves.

Basically, it made the girl feel better at heart even if it didn’t bring any results.. Unlike her counterparts in the darkness, the gypsy still had strong ties to her past despite no longer being quite human for over 8 years. It was her own fault, if fault can be assigned to such things. Despite all the darkness and pain that had filled her life, she still had a heart that cared. When someone entered the orbit of her life, she took notice and as that orbit continued feelings emerged. From the beginning, when a still alive Angela first met with a college student working towards a business major and the results of her internship would be credits to now with her children and friends, her heart became a small star with its own family of planets revolving around it, and when some of those planets winked out– she noticed.

So on occasion, perhaps twice a year, she would take a night and lock herself away in seclusion. A specific pattern laid out within her pentacle on the floor. Various candles and sage types arranged in patterns around her to set up the atmosphere she desired. Zodiac levitated in the center of the arrangement. The normal trappings of her public and private life discarded save for her cat that laid just outside the boundaries of the circle, as if she understood such things and a few select amulets and talismans cast for such a purpose. Otherwise she was naked in the small bubble of light that pushed against the surrounding darkness.

Her thoughts were focused as she projected her sense of self into the atheir around them and began a hunt of sorts for faded little planets for a clue to where they have gone to, or find an echo of their fates.

Zaphyra stood staring at the wall. She wasnt sure this time how long she had been here, Where was here? Her brows crinkled slightly, at the path her thoughts wondered. Only for a second later reminding herself that she had no brows. She had no substance, she was but a memory of a memory. Shaking her head as if to clear cob webs, she turned for what felt like the millionth time her eye moved over a landscape devoid of color, sounds muted as if she was stuck under the waves of a large ocean. This place mocked her, mocked her with memories that refused to come to the front of her mind. Was she born here? That doesn't seem right. She began walking to where she was no longer concerned with, it wasn't like she would remember anyways.

Her days had become an endless cycle of feeding of spirit energy, wandering and losing herself a little more. Then there are the moments of endless rage, screaming for those that forgot her, for forgetting herself. Her head tilted slightly at a new sight in the distance. Was that light? It drew her closer. Calling for her. As she walked she ignored the wretched creatures losing themselves as she lost herself.

It didn't take her long before she stood in front of the light source. It was big enough for her frame to go through. If her heart beat it would quake, part fear and part exhilaration. Reaching her hand forward, fingers barely touching the scar in the air. Its energy pulling her with more power than her legs could.

A litany of names echoed out from her mind like a soft mantra. Some, if they ever heard it, might compare it to the ‘death list’ the one character in ‘Game of Thrones’ had where she kept repeating it, but this was not a death list, but a call to life list. The names of her childers, friends, allies and lovers that had slipped away to who knows where. A call in the vast wilderness of what waited for their kind beyond to help guide some home. And after each time she completed it, she would add the phrase-

”If you must die,
it's okay,
I will always keep your memory.”

And then begin again. Pausing at each name while she remembered something unique about them.

”Sable…..Allie…..Temperance….”

Memories good, bad, and mixed danced in her thoughts. All different but all parts of her life with others who helped keep her sane in this quazi existence.

”Abelle…..Amber….Zaphyra….”

Sometimes when she did this, bloody tears would flow from her eyes, but not this time. She had done this too many times and not even a clue if any of them were still around or even sane enough to answer at all.

”Lyana…..Gem……Sunny….”

This had slowly become for her now. She did it not in any future hope she would ‘hook’ one of them and bring them back into this level of existence, but to remind herself of happier times. The fun, the laughter, the adventures and misadventures. A parade of sorts. Glimpses of moments that made her feel alive again. More and more names that only added to her jaded opinion that for having the gift of immortality, none of them were capable or prepared how to make it work.

”If you must die,
it's okay,
I will always keep your memory.”

A truly immortal being would have the parts in their minds to be able to cope with the strain of it. Vampires made from basic humans had no concept of such things, thus perhaps why their numbers never grew into the hoard humanity feared would consume them. For every one of their kind created, 4 or more would suddenly shut down, give up, or simply slip into slumber and not wake up again.

”Kennedy…….” The list began again. This was worse than the living dying. At least you knew they were gone unless some necromancer chose to reanimate their bodies, but the mind and soul had moved on. Vampires? No such luck unless they died outside the effect of the shadow realm. Did they actually pass into true death or end up in a place even worse?

Zodiac kept repeating the names. There was nothing else she could do, except accept a possible fact she refused to accept.
