Story Impact: FOR PEACE

There was many occasions she tended to the bar, worked security, cleaned around the Metronome Club just to give the people who worked there a day off and let them know she was no better than they were. It was of course their hard work that made it possible for her to make money. They were the face, what patrons see and talk to on a day to day basis. As it were, she wanted to keep the staff happy not only with her, but with their job. The happier they were, the less turn over and the more reliable it was that they would have repeat service to visit a certain person.

On a personal level, it made her get out of the office. Something she needed to do more of. Being trapped away in the office was part of the depression that was keeping her trapped inside her own little world. So was the building as a whole. She really needed to break out of the place itself more often. During the day, she stayed awake, taking naps sometimes on the chair just to sleep, or not really bothering much at all in the sleep department, which only mildly had to do with the crippling nightmares that occured when she didn’t sleep beside someone.

Now, she wiped down the round tables only mildly paying attention to what was going on around her. When she paid too much attention sometimes it all caved in on her, the sounds of the voices, the sounds of the music, the sounds of the drinks being poured, the sounds of the machines, the hum of the lights, the hum of the electrical appliances plugged in. The smell of the sweat beading up on the bodies of the humans that come in, the perfumes of the woman looking to be picked up, the giggles, it was all so much. It got to her and sometimes she needed to throw the towel down and go into the office and just relax.

When she passed the two men stewing over their beers she stopped to listen to them.

Male 1: “Listen man, Do you really think he is going to do a damned thing to help us? He can’t even build a wall to keep illegals out of his country!!”

Man 2: “I heard the economy is better and that the dow jones rose up after being at an all time low.”

Male 1: Makes a scoffing sound: “Yeah says who, everything else he says is a bloody lie. I mean look what he really has done down there. Racism is at an all time high! Worse then when the Obama guy was president. He has the country divided. But he seemed to bring England together. Because now they all mutually hate him!” The man snorted.

Cristiana took a seat looking like she was taking a break, she just wanted to listen in on the two men. It was rather amusing and somewhat informative. She leaned her elbow on the table, hand in her chin looking off into the distance but really she was paying attention to the two men. One was a scruffy type of guy, he five o’clock shadow looked upkept. He wore an outfit clean but yet covered in grease of some sort. If she had to take a wild guess from the look of his hands and clothes, and what he was drinking which was a draft beer, he was a mechanic of some sort. Now the other man looked like he had a business suit, but it wasn’t tailored to fit him. It matched though, that was part of it. He could be someone who worked IT or even retail. It was hard to judge, especially from the drink, whiskey on the rocks. Now that was a drink she could get behind. Since her staff knew what she was, she had no problem with them and mind speaking. She didn’t work alone so she told the other bartender to send them another round on the boss. That should keep them talking.

Male 1: “If he did send any troops up here it would be like the rejects you picked last in gym class. They don’t want to help us. It would be a show thing, and we’d have to have him visiting. Please, please don’t have that idiot visiting here. Could you imagine the tweets? Eh?”

Man 2: He laughed, “But we could sure use the help, I mean that is if they even acknowledge our distress? We really need this. The vampires are one thing, some of them help us out. We lose a little blood sometimes, but all in all a lot do good for the community, but the zombies man… the soldiers everywhere? What next werewolves? Hell, point a gun and shoot me now!”

Male 1: “Carl, man, ….” He stops as the bartender slips the drinks on the table in front of them. “Umm, thanks but we didn’t”

She waves them off with a smile. “Oh gosh guys, the boss said to bring you two special guys over a drink on her. She said you two looked like you guys could use something to wet that whistle of yours.” She gives the guys a wink. Both males heads turn watching her apple shaped bottom leave.

Male 1: “That was nice! I’m always up for a free drink!”

Man 2: He lifted the drink and turned to look directly at Crissy, she nodded to him, “Thanks Boss. Cheers”

“You’re Welcome. It was the least I could do for listening in so rudely.” She smiled

Man 2: He patted the empty seat with the palm of his hand. “Come on and join us. We are just talking about an idiot and how stupid the Canadian government would be for shacking up with the likes of him!”

It took her a few minutes to debate should she join them. “Ok Carl! I will join you.” She moved off her seat and took the seat between the two. One of them, she suspected the one with the suit, the one she couldn’t help but notice wore a loosened tie, was wearing a lot of cologne. It smelled like Aspen, if she recalled the scent correctly, now she could be wrong because she wasn’t a connoisseur of mens fragrances.

Man 2: He beamed with pride over her knowing his name. “Do I know you?” He gave a small chuckle.

“Nope, this guy,” She motioned to the other male with the tie who had yet to introduce himself, “Said your name while I was listening in.” She turned and focused in on him. “So, Mister Tie, what’s your name?”

Male 1: “Like my tie huh?” He reached up and took it off putting it over her head and let it sit loosely draped over her shoulders. “Tell you what, you can have it. My name is Russell.”

Her heart skipped a beat, he'd just given her his tie. HIS TIE! ... why did she like ties so much? It was no matter, she had it now, it was hers!!! “Why thank you Russell. Now … please continue, tell me, should I be for or against this?”

Russell blurted out, “For it!”

Carl yelped out at the same moment, “Against it!”

Now the question that was really posed, "What exactly are you for and against?" The two men looked at each other, then shut their open mouths before opening them and closing them again. Tonight was going to be a long night where the debates just kept going on and on and on….

You overhear someone talking about how there is talk of the United States working with Canadian officials to offer aid to their Algonquin neighbors to the north.
