Julius - The Legacy

Post by Julius (DELETED 10533) »

It was supposed to be just another day on the job. Just another day serving the people of Harper Rock. Ensuring everyone was safely sleeping as I patrolled the streets with my partner David.
We joined the force in December 2002. It was a cold winter that year. I remember running in the morning on the slighted frosted grass of the sports compound in the academy as the cold filled my chest at every breath. Everything was slightly covered by a white mantle as the sun shined its first warm rays of the morning. I still remember its soft warm touch in my face.
It was a cold winter that year, but not as cold as the night that chanced everything… not even close.
I remember we were passing by the Necropolis Nightclub, a downtown gothic chapel turned nightclub, as we received a dispatch from central. It was about a burglary happening just a few blocks away.
As we reached the spot we quickly spotted the burglars. There were two males, military boots, black jeans, black wool blazers and both wearing ski masks. One of them carried a gun and the other a crowbar. They were inside the shop trying to get every penny they could out of the cash register.
They didn’t notice we were there so we immediately took cover and tried to surprise them. As the action started we tried to make them comply by lying on the floor but didn’t happen. They just jumped over the balcony and the one with the gun started shooting at us.
That’s when the things turned unreal.
I already had heard rumors of impossible things happening in town, like monsters, vampires, people with unbelievable strength but never bought the ticket to the show. I just thought it was the mind of people trying to justify things they miss eared or saw. How wrong I was in that cold, cold night…

The suspect with the crowbar throw it at us at a supernatural speed. It missed my head just by two inches and slammed at the wall behind me with an unbelievable power. I remember it was craved on the concrete wall behind me as it was partially shattered. We returned fire and after a few seconds they jumped out the window and started running down the street. We tried to catch them but they jumped to a fire stair case of an apartment building, two floors high, and started climbing. We immediately went to the hall of the building and raced up the stairs hopping we could still catch them. And we did. Amazingly maybe they thought we didn’t see were they went and were just overconfident. Or maybe not…
I remember we were pointing our guns when one of them just started running and jumping over the rooftops of the apartments, getting away. The other one was just still. I remember its cold eyes, painted with anger, just staring at us.
We followed the rules. At the academy they teach us that we never leave a partner alone in these circumstances, so we both stayed and tried to detain the suspect in front of us.
I remember we were shouting at him to rise up his arms and get down on the floor, when he jumped on us at an amazing speed and strength. We fired some shots and I’m certain that I hitted him, but it simply seemed that the shots fired didn’t had any effect. His impact was to strong and made us fell to the floor.
Next thing I remember, he picked me from the floor and razed me above his head, like I was weightless, saying that we were just too weak, we stood no chance against him. I remember taking several punches to my face and chest as he laughed. He was about to throw me down below to the streets when David hitted the suspect´s knee with his baton and made him let me go. Luckily I felled on top of the fire stair case. As I was trying to get up I heard David´s scream. When I reached the top, the suspect was on the far edge of the building, with one hand trough David´s belly, like he just trespassed a piece of paper. I remember David was resisting him, holding him with every strength he had left, shouting, shoot him in the head. Do it now. DO IT.
I still remember the adrenaline pumping in my chest, and in a fraction of a second I pointed and shot the suspect in the head.
They felled into the streets as I rushed to the edge, trying to hold David. I remember seeing both of them lying lifeless on the floor, both covered in a pool of blood. Exposed fratures, twited leg. It was an infernal sight to see.
