The scent of books, old and new, was intoxicating. It was a new sensation for Harrison; he’d only discovered books in the past few years, and knew that he had a long time to go before he could catch up. Even now as he meandered the stacks in the local library he felt like a fraud; everyone gave off this vibe like they had been reading all their lives, like they’d throw him out if they found out that he had no idea who Charles Dickens was.

Just like Lucy. He’d been speaking to Lucy just outside. Lucy had been a literature student and she’d focused on the classics. She’d been killed in the library; she’d been in the stacks, where all the old books were kept. She needed white gloves to hold them. It was late at night, and she’d been joined by … well, a vampire. Harrison’s hand canted to the side as he scanned the titles. Nickelby was near the end, and Harrison’s jaw dropped as he pulled the heavy tome from the shelf.

”Are you serious?” he said in a harsh whisper. To any who witnessed him, he was a crazy Scotsman talking to himself.

”How bloody thick is this thing? You want me to read it to you?!” he asked. Lucy nodded, and shrugged. ”Or you could just sit there and turn the pages, but I wouldn’t mind being read to. That could be nice,” she said with that gleaming ghostly grin. Harrison sighed and tucked the book against his side, wandering back out to the library proper. If he was going to read the book to Lucy, it was going to take a while. And he’d have to find somewhere secluded…
