With a flourish of her blade, she hoisted the razor-sharp weapon in the air over her head, offering the collective group of spectators a beaming grin as she soaked in the roar of the crowd. She’d been waiting for this moment since she’d heard the tournament was being put together. The first fight, the moment of truth. She had faith in her skill, and she had a real desire to put herself to this test.

Her first opponent was a woman she’d never met, someone named Cathy Dawn. She had no idea what the woman was capable of, or what to even expect in the first round, but she was ready for anything. She stood, arms raised as she basked in the bloodlust of the gathered mob. Her adoring fans, as she had already come to think of them.

She ran her thumb along the cross guard of her blade and flipped it in her hand, reacquainting herself with its weight. It was a new blade, a blade she had put through the fires of the forge herself. She knew its strength, and knew that she trusted her craftsmanship. She may have been a virtual unknown in the city, but in her own circles, she was a superstar.

She intended to shine here.

She ran her tongue across her lips and moved to where she stood in the center of the arena, giving her blade one last wave before she let herself relax into a defensive posture, her golden dragon’s glare turned to where the darkness opened into the arena floor.

Her opponent would be coming soon.

Cathy walked into the area wearing an outfit like one would see on Lara Croft with guns on her legs and knife in her boot. On her back was her ax Skylar that was made by her dad. She would probably use it if her opponent decided to use a blade. Her hair was up in a pony tail with just a few strands in her face.

She walked into the area and smiled as the crowed cheered for her and some said go Cathy. She had to shake her head as she knew she only ever fought monster not her own kind but this was going to be a first time for her to do this and she was ready for it. She only knew the person she was fighting was another woman named Starla and in the end she hoped who ever one was the best and that they could be friends.

Star’s eyes fell on her opponent as she entered the ring. She didn’t appear to be much, but, looks were often deceiving. Star’s height topped out under five feet, and though she was small, she had a strength that would surprise someone twice her size. As she flicked her blade, testing its heft in her hand, she kept her gaze on the woman opposite her as she stepped closer. She looked like she’d come ready for a war, her weapons hanging freely from her sides, her attire more militant than fashionable, and perhaps that had been a good call.

Star just couldn’t bring herself to do it, though. This was her first appearance in a public competition, and she had to be sure to make an impact. That meant looking her absolute best. The sight of her would be engrained into the minds of her spectators. She was sure to be memorable, at least.

They were close, now. Within earshot, at least, even with the din of the crowd around them. Starla offered a wry twist of her lips as she shrugged a shoulder. “So I guess we just hop to it!” She lifted her blade in a salute, then, and backed away, dropping into a defensive stance to allow her opponent the first step in their little dance.

Cathy looked at the girl as she herself was only 5'3" tall they were a perfect match in size. She smiled and held out her hand to shake her hand before the battle started. When that was done she nodded her head "I guess we should. May the best woman win. Maybe we can be friends afterwards. With that she took a few steps back and grabbed her ax hefting the big thing in her hands it looked bigger than what she is but she could use it.

She waited and as she watched for her rivle to take the first swing and she would either block or make her move. She keep on her feet and moved as she could with the heavy ax in her hands she was going to be a good partner in this and she hoped the fight would last a long time. She took the first swing instead and missed she had never missed before and that was not going to be a good sign but she was ready.

If there was one thing that would draw the Hispanic from the comfort of her apartment, it was the knowledge that the woman who had feasted on her, who had stolen from her, who had killed her – was seconds away from insufferable agony. Running her tongue along the sharpened edge of her fang, the Necromancer casually slid her fingers along one of the worn down rails, her dark gaze dancing from one face to the next, bringing them to her memory. She was always on the defense, always analyzing. Finding her seat with ease, she fell back against the hard stone, her boot tapping an unsteady beat against the ground as she peered over the edge and into the pit, where a flash of pink and blonde caught her attention with ease. “Is that seriously what you have chosen to wear to a battle, chica? That is just sad!

She knew that her loudly spoken words would reach the blonde’s ears, even as a few uncertain glares turned in her direction. One man at her side went as far as to sneer, his perverse gaze nearly stripping her own clothing from her skin before he turned back to the fight and slurred something about mud. Rolling her eyes, she once again stood, her arms folding over the rail so she could lace her fingers together. Dark painted nails dug into her skin as she focused on Starla and her – was that a child? Instantly, she knew the fight wouldn’t last, especially when the pair began to chat idly. Growing bored with the stand-still, she cupped her hands around her mouth and raised her voice above the gravel growl of the drunken man at her side.

“Come on, Starbright! Let’s see what those old bones can do!”

The disadvantage to hefting an axe as large as her opponents was, when you had to swing something that heavy, without already having a rolling momentum, your movements were very obvious, very slow, until you already had yourself moving. She saw the heavy blade of that axe shift to one side as the small woman began to lurch forward in a charge that felt like it was in slow motion.

As the opening move was underway, Star heard the familiar chirp of her favorite accident. She rolled her eyes at the woman’s criticism of her attire, and turned the blade over in her hand as she prepared herself for the parry. The axehead came screaming through the air, the heavy hunk of metal parting the air between them with a violence that made the air sing with the power of the blow.

Her attention refocused, Starla lifted her blade, the sharp clang of metal against metal ringing out through the air as Odessa’s underhanded cheer, with just the right amount of insult to raise her blood to a boil. When the axehead hit the floor what a sharp crack like thunder, Starla pulled the short rifle from her hip and swung the weapon toward her opponent, pulling the trigger and catching the woman’s midsection, along her groin.

Blood splashed across the floor as the ringing echo filled the air and Starla pulled herself back from the small blonde and readied herself again, ready to strike a blow of her own. She spared a moment to glance over her shoulder to where she had heard the voice of her mistake. "When this is over, it's your turn next."

Cathy was hit in the leg near the groin and she was taken down she had been weak a bit before the battle began because she had not had time to feed but she had not thought that would be a problem. She shook her head and looked at the woman admitting her defete. "Good job. Looks like you win Starla. It was a good match even if it did not last that long. Maybe we can do this again sometime and next time it might last longer."

She stood up and held out her hand. She was a good sportsman even when she lost so she was ready to congratulate the winner of this match and hope for a rematch in the future and a friendship out of this as a possibility.

Watching the woman collapse to her knee, Starla lifted a brow, her rifle, having only fired the single shot, still gripped tightly in her hand, ready for another attack. Perhaps, with her flash of rage against the woman in the stands, she had gone a little far with the damage she’d done to the blonde in the floor. She sighed, hooking the short rifle to her hip and pushing her hand through her hair. It appeared the woman hadn’t come as prepared as Starla had, but she could hardly feel guilty about that. She had come to win, and to win against the likes of her own sire, who she knew was full well of putting her down as quickly as she had this stranger.

She reached out a hand, helping the woman to her feet and offering her a smile. “Sorry about that. I get away from myself sometimes. Been doing a lot of spirit slaying, with not too much worrying about leaving anything left to shake hands with lately.” She chuckled, settling the woman on her feet. She’d usually set about seeing that too much blood didn’t ruin the woman’s clothes, but, patting down a stranger’s crotch was a little too much, even for her. She chuckled at the thought, and flipped the blade in her hand and slipped it into its scabbard with the soft hiss of steel against tooled leather.

Maybe we can do that rematch sometime. Just be sure you come a little more prepared, yeah? I’m not one for pulling punches.” She chuckled, and tipped her head toward the exit of the arena. “Think you can make it out?” She gave a smile, and turned to the crowd, lifting her fist in the air to the roar of their cheers.
