Checking her phone, she saw that, still, there was no message from Vex. They were supposed to have been at the bar ten minutes ago, and she was still standing outside in the parking lot of her apartment. She was a master of being fashionably late, but this was inching into the outright late. She gave a quiet huff and tapped out another text to her bestie, fingers gliding across the screen with an incredible speed and accuracy.

Hey Vex bby. We need 2
get going. Gonna b lst call b4
we evn get 2 the bar grl.
Still n the prkn lt. Pnk Camaro.
U kno the 1. Jst hrry. xoxo

She nodded, and locked the screen, wiggling the phone into the small clutch she carried her i.d. in, before tossing it into the car’s open window. She convinced herself that would be the last text. Blowing up the girl’s phone would be unseemly, and the last thing she wanted to do was annoy the girl into staying inside for the evening. She hadn’t waited this long for nothing, and besides, a piece as hot as Vex was likely to net a few extra looks their way, at least. That always made things a little more interesting, in her experience.

She chuckled at the thought of the evening that they were going to have and turned to look at her car. It was her pride and joy, the one thing she had bought with the money her prior master had given her, the one thing in the world that she really called her own and could really mean it. It was a real beauty, a real American classic, with a personal touch. It was an original body 1969 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro, repainted with a custom bright pink and white racing stripe job, it screamed Bambi Ballard. Together, they would really be tearing up the town in style, and if they just so happened to stumble into any trouble, then it would make for a more than adequate getaway car. Though, they would draw quite a bit of attention. That was the only real drawback.

But, she didn’t really think about that. All she cared for was that, as she had hoped, it really fit her, and she loved it. It was pretty, it was sharp, and it was fast. Everything she was looking for in her life. She grinned at the car and turned her bright blue gaze up to the window of Vex’s apartment to see the light still on. She tapped the heel of her strappy brown sandal impatiently against the asphalt, the soft click, click, click the only sound in the empty parking lot as she shook her head and pulled her thin shawl over her lacy tank top, suddenly really not liking the quiet of the lot as she listened to the sound of her heel echo off the tall, featureless brick of the apartment complex. “Come on, Vex. You live in the creepiest ******* place. I’m ready to get out of here, girl.

Glaring at her phone, she watched as another pink bubble illuminated the screen, her best friend’s never ending texts taking up more than seventy-five percent of her alerts. She was all for making sure that she was going to be on time, but this had bypassed concern and steamrolled right into insane. When she didn’t bother to acknowledge the notification, the screen flickered before turning black, and she almost felt sorry for the device. It was an inanimate object, and Bambi was making her pity it. If there was anyone in the world that could drive a person to that level, it was her.

Of course, she hadn’t been making it easy on the girl. She had been ready ten minutes after the first text, and had thought she’d have time to finish a chapter in her book. That chapter had turned into two, then three, until finally she heard her car peel into the lot. By then, she was too far engrossed in the story to put the novel down, and instead, remained curled on the couch, feet bare and tucked beneath her woven blanket. It was tempting to pick up the phone and pretend to have gotten ill, but she knew that the moment she did that, she’d have the blonde at her door, threatening to beat it down.

“I don’t have a choice, do I?”

When she didn’t receive an answer – and since she lived alone, she had expected one – she kicked the blanket off and slid her feet into her heels before moving securing the straps. The book was tucked beneath her arm, and her fingers ran hastily through her hair before she applied a layer of bright gloss. If she were to dare walk out of the door without at least attempting to wear make-up, the woman waiting for her would have a seizure before she even made it to the car. Chuckling to herself, she slipped her bookmark between the pages of her novel before tucking it into her clutch with her phone. With the strap pulled over her shoulder and the bag hid against her side, she hoped that the girl wouldn’t question the noticeable bulge. It was their number one rule: she wasn’t allowed to read when she was with her.

What she doesn’t know won’t kill her, right?

Grinning, she locked the door on her way out, golden curls swaying loosely about her shoulders as she took the steps towards the exit. “You are the most impatient person I know. I’m so glad I’m not your type,” she teased as she brushed a kiss across her cheek and slid into the passenger seat. “So, where are we going that I actually had to pull out my heels? You know I can’t do much in these things.” Holding her legs out, she wiggled her painted toes within against the black strap of her heels, the diamonds that adorned the leather catching in the moonlight.

Finally, Vex appeared, floating through the front door of the apartment in a dress so short, it nearly gave the buxom blonde a heart attack, had her heart still beat. That was easily one of the little woman’s finest assets, her legs. She sure knew how to show them off, too, and it always made Bambi smile, to know that things would be so easy for her. She grinned, and pushed her hand back through her silky hair and leaned a hip against the pink door of her Camaro. She folded her arms across her ample bossom and gave the blonde a subtle roll of her eyes.

It’s not going to be the end of the world if you get out of that little hole in the wall for a few hours and just try to make yourself look nice, Vex. Seriously, just look at those legs. Look at them.” She laughed, and pointed a finger down the street. She wasn’t even going to be taking her far. She was going to be in walking distance of her little run-down hole, which was probably best if Bambi got as trashed as she usually thought she was going to. She gave the woman a grin and added a tip of her head in indication of the direction of their travel. “Little bar around the corner. Nothing huge, either, but I wanted you to look hot. We might have a little fun tonight.” She chuckled, and gave the woman a little nudge of her elbow before she leaned into her car, waist laid across the door as she reached across the console to snatch her bag from the passenger’s seat, *** end upended as she grabbed it and pulled back through the window.

She stood, and gave a huff, straightening her hair back into place as she looked through her bag, double checking that her phone, pistol, compact, and lipgloss were all in place, before finally finding her ID and nodding her approval that she was ready. She wasn’t worried about the car going anywhere. Her friends had installed a formiddable anti-theft system so even the rolled down window was hardly a cause for concern. Practically bouncing on her heels, then, she smiled and reached into her clutch to toss aside a fistful of empty airplane bottles of tequila, and produced another fistful of filled ones, holding one up to her friend. “Care to get started before we head out?” she asked, tipping her head as she popped the top of one from the other with her thumb, upending it and downing it in one quick swallow.

She made a pleased sound in her throat and tossed the empty bottle into the boxwood bushes that lined the lot. She grinned wider, then, and gave her shoulders a little tremble of pleasure at the burn in her throat. “Better to get a little in you before you go. Cheaper, too. Don’t be afraid to grab a few more if you want. Let’s get going, then!” she spoke quickly as she looped an arm around Vex’s unburdened arm and tugged her forward, the sound of four heels clicking against the ground echoing off the walls now, rather than just the two. That, she thought, is a much more pleasant sound.
