A Shadow that walks the Fade.

Tonight, as is the norm, I rested for the changing of day with my friends at the Necropolis. Then, afterwards I started out on my nightly route, through town. My feet know well the steps they travel, as they do it nightly and have for some time, now. From Gullsborough, down across the Mall to the Morgue, then onto the darkly liquid river into the QZ. Next, its back to Wickbridge, hop the train to Westwall, before sliding into Honeymead, where I often choose to take a pause at the Station Net Cafe before walking north to my home. By that time, I am famished from the working of my task, each stop draining me of the black blood that fills my veins, the Cherrydale area is rural and often has a scattering of humans that are easily fed upon to fill me again before I reach home. My task is one that I have chosen as my own, it gives me a purpose and allows me to help my kindred with the powers that I have learned.
I pause briefly to call on the power that has grown inside me. I have a connection to the darkness that lays just beyond, the place where everything is like I am; more shade than solid. I no longer question what I have become, I embrace it and in turn I am embraced by it, too. I quickly open gateways, which allows for extra magic to flow through from the Fade for any that choose to rest for a few moments each night as the day changes from one to the next. My feet glide across the pavement smoothly while my body fades in and out of the shadows that line the streets and alleyways. When the next stop calls for it, I board one of the trains that run from here to there, my small frame barely noticeable to any that may be nearby. It is at these times that I feel my best, I am in tune with what I am, doing what I am meant to do. So different than my social stumbling at other times.
These last weeks I have been more outgoing and have spent time with others, either in an internet cafe or maybe the Necro, rather than keeping to myself or spending time with Thomas in the seclusion of our home. This behavior, along with my sometimes need to explore the possibilities seems to come with a price; that being the almost constant tailing by local police. They seem to be everywhere, lately; outside the doorways of Internet Cafe's, scattered through the streets, standing on corners, always watching me as I go from this place to that, sometimes stopping to pick a few pockets or kill a gangster or two. I find that their interest in me is just this side of creepy. There are times when they just randomly pull out their guns and wave it around, often taking wild shots into the night air, their voices raising with trained bravado, shouting "Stop you!" I never stop nor would I ever stop for them. There have been instances lately where their bullets have actually connected with my shadowy flesh, the slight burning twinge that is what I call pain, invades me soon to be followed by the black inky blood that flows upwards into the night rather than drip red on the floor. Certainly an annoyance, but most often one that fades quickly and causes me little hardship.
But, the last few nights these Cops, these protectors of the citizens of Harper Rock have seemed more obsessive and more brazen in their attempts at control. Tonight something occurred that shows this . I noticed there to be a lot more cops with their bright yellow hats roaming about town. There seemed to be one at every corner and even more walking their beat, stopping at the doorways of various business' and such. I always find that habit of theirs to be a pain in Odin's ***, especially when I decide to be social and stop in at one of the several Internet Cafe's. Never seems to fail that when it comes time to leave, I open the door and there is a Cop staring at me, then the shouting of "Stop You!" as I scoot past them.
Then the wild firing of their guns into the air. It's at that moment that I always remember why I prefer to do my hacking in the privacy of my home, where I don't have to worry about being treated like some horrid criminal because I "Redded" out once or twice while I was tunneling my way through some corporate computer files looking for something of value. Sure, it's not really legal, but hey I'm not really human either.
I am a Shadow that walks the Fade.
What I am wondering is if this should be happening or should cops be restricted to patrolling the streets and various business doorways.
So, the way I see it, she has the choice of either taking a risk or not taking one. But, with the cops in the transits you kind of lose that choice. I doubt very much if that cop sitting at Westwall tonight knew Regan was going to go there, rather than any of the other stations, so basically he was just there to harass whoever came through. Not cool!
Regan gets shot at because she usually Reds out at least once while hacking. Sundial, on the other hand, rarely "Reds" out so there isn't a valid reason for her getting shot at by the bastards.
I say we stand up to "The Man" and make them stand down on their unjustified harassment!
