Casting Call (Enver)

Post by Camilla »

==Open Casting Call==

“Next!”

Camilla stood up, portfolio in hand, and moved toward the desk. She held out a copy of her work history to the girl at the desk.

“Go on in.. Mr. Cooper is waiting.”

Heading into the office Camilla strode in with confidence. “Good morning Mr. Cooper, my name is..”

Ben Cooper held up a hand. “Stop. What part are you auditioning for?”

“The Wife..” Camilla stated.

Ben looked up from the file, “Which wife?”

Camilla paused for a millisecond, then said, “Current.” She slowly released a pent up breath. She had not read the full book. Merely skimmed it. She saw the bit about the wife and she knew she rock that part. A woman that played hard to get, and finally succumbed to his charm? It was a part to die for. A supporting role that could win her an oscar, if it got the nod of the judges.. Once she was done here, she was reading that book cover to cover.

Cooper grimly said, “Wife number three. Right. Go. Give me your best righteous indignation.”

Camilla huffed, ‘go’? What kind of Casting director was this? No line? Nothing? Just .. ‘go’? “Are you serious? You say that to me, now? And you expect to what? .. pull something out..

‘“Stop. Alright.. This time.. give me long suffering indignation.”

She wanted to let loose a string of virulent French curses, he thought she was acting just then? She sniffed in arrogant disdain. She forced herself to remain calm. This was supposed to be her ticket to Hollywood, but this buffoon was simplistic in his demands. Anyone could do that. “What.. exactly.. Do you wish me to… say?” Her enunciation and pause of each showed him exactly what she thought of his style.

Cooper meanwhile lifted an eyebrow and nodded. “Hmmm.. Now do it like Yoda….”

At Camilla’s aghast look, Cooper said, “The wife spoke backwards like.. Yoda. Go.”

Was he for real?! Yoda?! Camilla sucked in an irate breath and narrowed her eyes, “To say.. You.. have not told me.. What is wanted by you…” Through gritted teeth.

“Hmmm..” Cooper stared at her for a long moment.

“Not so aggressive. Strength yes.. But subtle. Think.. royalty...Go.”

It struck her, that he was actually being serious. He wasn’t having her on for his amusement. Lifting her chin, and squaring her shoulders, she drew a calming breath, her mind scrambling for hints she had read “What you wish, is unknown by me. Tell me you must, for I do not know..”

Ben Cooper canted his head to side. “You will have to read for Mr. Marshall. It is imperative the two of you get along,” He grabbed a copy of the script from the corner of his desk, “Here. Keara.. Third wife. Read up.”

Camilla took the script and turned toward the door.

Ben called after her, “When you come back to read for him.. Cover up. Modestly.. The third wife, is very.. Old world, I guess you would say. Class, not glitz. First impressions count, especially about wives…”

“Thank you Mr. Cooper.” Her hand opened the door and exited the office. She heard the girl in the reception area call ‘Next!’.

Camilla waited until she was outside to grin and spin around in unbridled joy!

Indigo was sitting in the waiting room of an office that cleary was converted at the last minute to accommodate the numerous acting locals of Harper Rock and the surrounding areas. She lifted her right foot just enough to slide it over the left and nudge it back with her heel. The hard old school plastic beneath her was just as uncomfortable as she remembered back in grade school. Her hips inched back and the subtle rock of the chair reminded her she should be accepting of what she had to work with. Sometimes it was meant to be like that.

The faces around her were refreshing and interesting. Some were acquainted, others quietly practicing lines and expressions. Indigo was lacking the training or experience as an actor. All she had going for her was that she was once considered a natural in front of fashion lens. Now she was so far from that she doubted she had that going in her favor anymore. However, she was prepared to give it shot. Try everything at least once was one of her mottos. Well, almost everything. A few things could be skipped and she was content to leave it to others to have on their own plate of adventure.

“Are you sure?”

A voice raised above the rest and pulled the focus of her indigo orbs to the source. A sleek chemical created blonde with exquisite chestnut skin wrapped in the latest limited Dior early spring couture around her body was quickly discovered. How did she miss this one? She glanced down at her street casual attire and rolled the fullness of her unpainted lips inward.

“I would give anything to get this part.” The hushed whisper hardly held back the truth of the woman’s words. Indigo could sense the desire that was behind each syllable that moved like a spoken prayer floating over the space of the room and to her own ears. The energy from it gave her goosebumps. “I can’t believe I maxed out three credit cards to get into this.” The woman’s voice dropped even lower as she leaned in to deliver the confession to the short and sassy looking redhead sitting closer to her than anyone else was. “I hope it was worth it. I want this part so damn bad I will bleed for it if I have to.”
“Mmm…” An appreciating purr sounded in response. “I just want him.”

The bold announcement stirred up giggles that were shared instantly between the two. Soon they were joined by the male on the opposite side of the Dior decked artificial blonde. Both heads snapped to the direction of the conversation crasher.

“Who doesn’t?” He chimed in just as the door opened to the next room where the auditions were being held. A fresh face exited clearly looking pleased. He nodded. “I see the competition is getting heavy, ladies.”

Indigo blinked. This was one hell of a hungry room she was perched in. Each body had a dream inside. Leave it to Mr. Marshall’s story to inspire them to congregate in the cramped space like nameless hopefuls waiting to be granted their shot at the big screen. The man or the vampire, perhaps both, had the ability to attract more buzzing bees than honey. She glanced down to her bare wrist where a watch should be if she was actually looking for the time. She didn’t really need to be there. As the foundation head for the Phineas Knight Legacy as well as the movie star’s personal assistant certainly she had more than enough to do already. But there she was being all supportive because she had a couple hours to kill and the curiosity of any worthwhile cat.

“Next!”

The woman announced while moving items around on the desk beside the door. She ignored the roomful of people and glanced down at the file that was unceremoniously dropped on the flat surface in front of her. Her attention went to the exhausted appearing body standing beside her which was quickly met with the telling nod of the casting director’s head.

“That would be me!” Ms. Broke N’ Blonde stood up and gave great face to the two left with no choice to look upward at her. “You can all watch me kill this.”

With a stride that screamed for a catwalk beneath each step the female disappeared through the space of the open door next to the desk. As soon as the door closed the two left behind to cheer her on snickered. So much for the supportive squad. The shared amusement was brief as the door opened quickly and she strutted back out with a smirk.

“See that?” She tucked a piece of paper in her small designer clutch. “That is how it is done.”

“Next!” Indigo’s posture straightened up at the sound of the woman’s voice calling out from the desk. A set of eyes cut across the room and landed on her. “Ms…” The eyes dropped down to the folder then back to her once more. “Knight?”
“Well, well…” The casting director’s face broke free from the deadpan expression when he discovered the last face he expected to see in the sea of strangers waiting patiently. “This is a surprise.”

Suddenly Indigo felt like the heat of the room was rising beneath her as she stood up. Mr. Cooper was a name she had seen in various forms of paperwork that now had a face to go with it. The tingle of uncertainty found her and it was not easy to shake even as she tried to remember that this was a trip solely to satisfy her natural curiosity.

“Mr. Cooper?” She was playing it safe and hoping she was right. If not then what would be the worst thing that could happen with getting a name and a face wrong? “Pardon me if I am mistaken.”

The door closed and she found the interior was just as unimpressive as the waiting room she just left. A soft shrug of her shoulders did little to move the gray wool v-neck sweater that clung to her upper body. Her faded denims lining her legs barely permitted the tucking of the ankle cut black boots beneath the industry grade hem. Her face was clean and free of any make-up while her chaotic natural honey ringlets floated with her movements.

“You are safe.” He dropped the file in his hand without giving the contents inside a look. “Doesn’t mean you are a shoe in for a part though.” A few steps created distance and had him retrieving a few pages from the modest desk where the file was resting. “Here.” The stretch of his hand signaled her to bridge the distance with the movement of her boots towards him. “Read it over a few seconds and when you are ready show me what you got. There are several snippets of dialog from various roles. Your option to use whichever you feel like using.”

In the seconds offered she discovered there were more than several snippets and roles on the pages in her hands. A few selections caught her eye and she almost went with them but then something came to her and inspired her away from the expected. It would be short but powerful. Definitely a far cry from anything she remotely had to say in her own life, so it would be a stretch. If it didn’t impress the one sharing the office space with her it was fine. She was still dealing with a full appointment book when she walked back out the door. With that decided her hand set the papers down on the desk and stepped away from it. Her hands went to the unruly cloud of curls topping her head like a shimmering halo of golden chaos. She formed a tight hold over what was in contact with her palms. She pulled just enough that she felt the irritating sensation deep in her scalp.

“Ready?” He was asking while he stood waiting for what would happen next.

“**** no, I am not ready!” Her hands dropped from her head as she spun around and transformed instantly into what could only be described as a ***** on heels with a score to settle. The force and power of her voice seemingly came out of nowhere. “I will tell you when I am good and ready! Until I am get the **** out of here!” She stepped in closer, her tone venomous and her eyes fixed on him with an intimidating dose of visible and audible hostility ready to be delivered. “You got two seconds to open that goddamned door and disappear.”
“Uhhh…” His eyes went wide the closer she stepped searching for the predictable break usually detected between an actor and their portrayed character lines. It was missing and he was wondering if perhaps she snapped somewhere. He cleared his throat while trying to recall in the script as he knew it to be just where the lines were coming from. They weren’t on the pages he offered. “I don’t know what you are…”
“Are you are so ******* pathetic that you are going to stand there and pretend that you don’t know what in the hell I am talking about?!” She cut him off before he could say anymore.

The last step she took into the last of the space between them had her cool words landing on his face as she met him eye to eye. Her right hand popped up between them coming within a breath from his face. It moved around in a slow precise circular pattern then froze. He blinked fast and stepped back unsure what to do next.

“Thank you, Ms. Knight.” He didn’t blink. “I think that is all that is needed.” His hand fumbled for the doorknob and he managed to turn it pulling the door open nice and wide. He breathed in deep and grateful to find all the eyes on him.
“Next!” He announced while Indigo took that as her cue that her brief stint in acting was over.

The walk through the room full of body heat was refreshing. It felt as though something was purged from her in the moments before that door opened. She lifted her chin a little as she stepped towards the door that would allow her to exit into the hall. So she wasn’t destined to be Meryl Streep. Acting was not like the grade school puppet shows she was in. Perhaps it was tougher than she first gave it credit for. She would give Mr.Marshall props next time they crossed paths. In the meantime she could check it off her exceedingly long bucket list of things she had yet to do. Maybe she would mention it to Adley. He could give it try. Who knows, perhaps there was a voice inside him wanting to come out for the big screen.

Re: Casting Call (Enver)

Post by Enver Marshall II »

It had been a long two weeks for Ben Cooper; one of Enver's closest and oldest friends. A friendship that seemed unlikely, but after Enver's strained relationship with his movie producer and Media Mogul dad after he and Abigail split up, Ben Cooper snatched Enver up for what was just supposed to be one movie. After the movie had been a box office hit, Enver was cast again, and again, and again for about five years under the guy and Enver's old man's potential rival. That was, if Ben Cooper hadn't had his own marital struggles and multi-billion dollar payouts to the new ex-Mrs. Cooper. All around, Enver thought Ben was a good guy, but often indulged in too many flights of fancy; not that Enver could talk of judge too much. Here, Enver was on wife (or ex-wife) number three, but Ben Cooper had two more on Enver; and frankly, Enver didn't believe the guy would ever learn from his past five mistakes.

But personal life and opinions aside, Enver and Ben Cooper got along well when it came to the work side of things. Both were visionaries in Enver's mind, and both had a type A personality when they got consumed in a project. Both men were passionate in the projects they choose to pick up and dive into, and would go to hell and back to see something finished once it got started. Though, Enver more so, since he was funding the majority of this movie and it was his own personal life.

Extras had been the easiest to cast; people in rehab, people in jail, party goers; all the things that weren't too heavy when it came to acting. Just needed the right look, right height, and right style sense and they could be taught a few lines in a handful of hours. Then came the people that would only be in a few of the shots throughout the entire production of the movie. His childhood cousins and events they took part in. His piano teacher; his dance teacher, counselors and other people that impacted, affected or shaped Enver's life throughout his entire life time.

Which left the more important, but demanding positions. The person to play his first wife; the second (since Lelantos seemed to be out of town), his third wife. Both his parents, boy Enver, teenager Enver, his sire River, and then everyone currently interested or involved in his life currently. Enver had tried to get Wilson to play his own parts, but nothing could sway the guy. Ben Cooper had gone through the first round of try-outs for each position, but promised no one a very important position until Enver came around and listened to the possible choices Ben had picked. Each spot had three or four potentials and needed to be narrowed down-that was why Enver was on his way over to his multi-million dollar business to discuss the possibles for the casting positions before they called them all back for a second audition.

Ben Cooper was already sitting at the round glass table in the conference room when Enver arrived on the scene, having made himself comfortable. If it was anyone else, Enver would have minded, but since they had history and Ben had never steered Enver wrong, it didn't bother Enver in the slightest. Enver's 'home' or in this case business was Ben's playground for the time being, so long as Ben Cooper realized that in the end, this was in fact, Enver's world and not Ben Cooper's. They would see how that would work out, now that the roles were slightly reversed, or at least...even. No longer the actor, but his equal in this endeavor. Enver moved for his usual seat, to the left of Ben Cooper and then grabbed at a file that was labeled 'Emilee.' "What do we have?" Enver asked as he looked through the facial shots of the four possibilities, before he set two of the four down between he and Ben Cooper. "Tell me about these two." And that's how their night began, weighing the pros and cons of all potentials before they would move on to passing along snippets of the actual script to those lucky enough to have been giving a ticket to return.
