Survive...

Zara stared at the old, green, rusty dumpster for a moment to find the best foothold. Finding one she put one booted foot on it, put her dirty hands on the top edge and launched herself upward landing on top of the full, brown plastic bags. Flinching with pain she stooped there looking around furtively…listening…looking like some wild animal. Dirt smudges on her face, red straggly hair, her nose twitching as she smelled food. Ripping the bag open and reaching inside without hesitation, she pulled out bits of leftover food that the restaurant had thrown away. It was dark in the alleyway, so when she felt something interesting she held it up close to her eyes and examined it carefully. Part of a chicken, she nodded to herself and smiled, her blue/green eyes sparkling with anticipation. Tearing at it with her teeth Zara stopped to glance around once more peering into the darkness then continued wolfing the rest down.

Finished eating she jumped down a bit gingerly and sat against the wall to think on her next move. Her face was bruised and she knew she must have some broken ribs – if nothing worse from the guys that had happened to jump her when they had found her alone.

She knew there was a place that the public was able to go into – she just wasn’t sure if she could get into it at this time of night or not. It wasn’t totally dark yet, maybe it was still open and she could sneak in. Some sort of church or temple, but could she get in and would it be any safer?

Standing up she brushed off her old, insulated leather jacket that she had the opportunity of stealing and her blue jeans. Thankfully the jacket was quite warm – and a bit more protection against any violence. Running her fingers though her hair as well as she could, she walked to the corner of the alley and looked out. If there was a time to head out – now was as good a time as any.

Zara sat in the corner of the temple with her back to the walls and her arms around her legs. Not that she needed to be here. She had been turned and supposedly belonged to a *family* called Dragomir. She didn't hold her breath on that meaning anything, not that holding her breath mattered anymore either, she thought with a grin. She felt stronger more sure of herself than ever before - and enjoyed killing. Why not? She had never met anyone that was really worth anything to her when she was alive. She had been abused, beaten up during most of her life. Now people would be paying. She didn't care who they were.

Feeding had been joyous. Draining the body completely and tossing it into the sewer. An appropriate demise for the human. The rest of the body could rot down there as far as she was concerned and it could feed the rats . She smiled at the thought of how the body had changed as she took the blood out of it. It had been a very satisfying thing to see.

The amazing things that she was excited about was her ability to jump high and far. She could freaking jump over buildings! How awesome was that! Then, she found she could tunnel! How cool was that!So many very cool things actually, yeah, she was definitely better than she was before.

Was there only so much *bad* she could be - before the so-called family might get concerned? She pretty much felt bad...would be good, realizing they may feel totally different from her. She shrugged. She didn't know them, what did she really care. She would just continue to do what she usually did - but better, much, much better. As she hummed a little tune, she didn't realize that her eyes had started to change. She was a dragon...
