Can I suggest a chat link on the home page? I think I've suggested it before -- but then it'll be immediately obvious to new people that the chats exist, and are easily accessed.
And is it possible to allow guests to log in? When perusing new forums I always find it really helpful to be able to chat to the current members about the place -- they're generally very welcoming and helpful, and thus persuasive.
Or maybe a C-Box on the side for that reason. They're generally very active a useful tool for informing guests and new people.
Other:
- Option one:
- Link to chats in forum header
- No guests in chats
- C-box available for guests
- Option two:
- Link to chats in forum header
- Guests welcome in chats
- No C-box
I've come to think that a C-Box can be a blessing and a curse. While it can serve for guests to ask questions and pop in to say hello before signing up, it also can get overused from random chatter, drowning out questions and getting new people ignored. Having chats open to guests if there is no one around who is an active member doesn't make it all that more welcoming. Chats remain fairly dead these days, on both games. If new people ask questions, they can get lost to the void.

I don't personally think a c-box would work with Path's layout because David would have to specifically modify each skin to implement it. Speaking from experience, it can be a real pain in XD.
I'd prefer option two.
And I say that even though I personally really like c-boxes. But I do agree, they tend to get overused, and can even be offputting to certain people who consider them 'invasive' each page of a site.

I actually hate c-boxes. I find them to either be dead, or very unhelpful. As in a lot of chatter people don't want to read/care about, etc. Example:
Kim: Hey Becca!
Me: Hey Kim!
Kim: What's up?
Me: Whole buncha private stuff.
Or...last reply was like 8 hours ago because no one was really around or wanted to answer the questions cause they didn't know the answer, or didn't want to be bothered. >.>
I'm going with option 2 for the revamp.

I'm not a big fan of the guest idea. But the rest sounds really awesome. I'm not sure about C-Chat, don't know what it is.
So I'll leave that discussion for others to have.

We should have some sort of chat participation drive.

Yeah, but I see that boosting chats temporarily.
So, it's not a for sure fix for forever.

I still put location-less RP chat on my wishlist, all these years later. Pain in the butt to have to pre-arrange RPS in specific places.

I like them in private lairs, but public locations, I don't see much benefit for. Though, that would require some major pita coding I imagine. To consider all places that are public public in general and to keep private abodes, private.

Chloe tried this
back in August, and no one seemed to take any notice.
I do think it would be simpler if, when clicking on the chat bubble in the grid, one was taken to OOC rather than the location chat. Alternatively, the option being in the pop-up itself. New players who log into chats from the tutorial go into the Tutorial Hub chat, and may not know that there is a higher chance at meeting people in the OOC chat.
