Lex was jostled awake as the train came to a stop "Welcome to Harper Rock" the conductor chimed over the P.A. Lex let out a long yawn, stretched and grabbed his bag from the above compartment at made his way off the train. Lex stopped outside the station and took in the sights around him. Harper Rock. Lex didn't know much about the place. A quick internet search had brought up something about a quarantine zone for some virus, but other than that it seemed like your average city. Lex pulled a cigarette from his pocket and fought off a shutter that tried to force it's way down his spine. Something about this place put him on edge. He let out a small scream and jumped when his cell phone rang. He stifled a few curses and dug the cell phone from his pocket. "What?" He said through clenched teeth not even bothering to look at the number. "Aye kid, what crawled up your butt and died?" Lex let out a sigh, Johnny Craigs probably the only person his uncle Sid considered a friend. Johhny Craigs had been a street guy his whole life and one of Sid's best informants.
"Sorry Johnny, just got off the train." Lex took one last look around and began heading down the sidewalk towards what he was pretty sure the direction of his hotel. He felt for the illegal tucked into the back of his slacks and felt a little safer. "No worries kid" Silence filled the air for a few moments. "Listen kid. I just called to check in with you. This last case of your Uncle's....it was some pretty dark stuff. Just, just be careful will you?" Johnny's voice was filled with concern something Lex had never heard before from the man. "Yeah, I'll be careful and check in regularly. Any luck getting into his computer?" Sid may have been a dinosaur but he was very protective of his files and kept almost everything on a very well protected computer. Lex had made every attempt to get into it but in the end hadn't come up with anything. "Nothing kid, nothing. The only hard file we found was filled with a bunch of hocus-pocus jumbo an address to a upper class bar in Harper Rock." Johnny was obviously just as frustrated with the situation as much as Lex was.
Lex crossed an intersection and hiked his back further up on his shoulder. "Right, I seen the file. Hey, I have to let you go. I'm at the hotel and I still want to hit this bar tonight." They said their goodbyes and Lex tucked the phone back into his pocket as he entered the hotel and paid for a weeks worth of nights. A quick shower and switching into a black pair of slacks, a gray button down and a black leather jacket. He double checked the clock, tucked it into a shoulder holster and headed for "Harper Grand" the bar listed inside the file Lex had found. It was a bit of a hike but it gave Lex a chance to develop a plan inside his head. Scope the place out, ask a few questions, and see where it lead him. "Some plan idiot" he thought to himself. At least he had a lead a lot of times he didn't even have that. Normally it was hours on the computer, greasing a few palms, countless stakeout's and a lot of photographs. A private eye's life wasn't a very glamorous one but at least it paid the bills.
The bar wasn't what Lex was expecting, Sid was usually the dive bar kind of guy. This was a suit and tie kind of place. The kind of place Lex avoided if he could help it. He ran a hand through his hair and made his way inside. He headed straight for the bar walking slow to take in all the details he could. Exits, cameras, patrons, he committed as much to memory as he could before sitting on one of the bar stools and ordering a drink. He took a long drink from a rather fine tasting scotch when a hostess approached. "Mr. Castle, we have been expecting your arrival. If you could follow me please?" Lex stared at her a moment in surprise. He had just hit the city, been in the bar less than five minutes and he was expected? Lex nodded, finished off the drink and followed the hostess, not quite sure what to expect.
