This is the city of the dead, and I’m just another victim.Closed for Harleigh
Pressing her back to the wall, she clutched her eyes closed as she listened for the shuffling of feet along the corridor floor. It was the same every ******* night. These putrid, pathetic creatures ambled around without rhyme or reason, and she would cut them down, only to have ten more emerge in its place. They were like nothing she had ever seen before. ****, vampires she could deal with - but these monstrosities were disgusting with their bones playing peek-a-book with their skin, and the larger beasts were something straight out of ******* Frankenstein.
It disgusted her.
Night after night, she kept finding herself sinking into the dark pit of the sewers and edging her way towards the Catacombs. Night after night, she was questioned relentlessly about her whereabouts, and night after goddamned night, she told his lapdogs to **** off. It seemed that they were finally beginning to get the picture - she had no want or need for them. “******* idiots,” she muttered dimly as she waited for the lumbering, stitched together giant to round the corner. When its grotesque head came into view, she thumbed the safety off and fired a few rounds into his skull, only to watch as it fell forward and swung a heavy arm for her. It slammed into her stomach, knocking the breath from her lungs and leaving her dazed, but before it could make another attack, she gave a twisted smile and leaped out of the way.
“Nice try, ******.”
Her laugh was as light as air as the sole of her converse squeaked against the concrete, and when it fell forward in a feeble attempt to try another attack, she swung, her blade connecting with its skull with a sickening crunch. Finally, it fell forward, and she bent down to yank a loose bone free from its spine. “******* disgusting. I will never understand why Osmond demands these things.” Dropping it into her pack carelessly, she stepped over the corpse to head further into the darkness, her mind focused on finding something - anything - to keep her distracted.
Just a few more hours, and I’ll have what I need. I can make it that long…
I hope.
