Sides of the Same Coin

Post by Rhett Keyes »

<Logan> The party had gone better than Logan thought it would, though his thoughts about the Fforde family still were ever changing as he stuffed his hands into his pockets. There were a few people he didn’t know more, but getting to know Esperanza was… interesting, to say the least. The two had a date set to go to the Art Gallery, but with the knowledge of Valentine’s Day approaching, it was getting difficult to control his urges. And so, he had gone ‘hunting’ of two different natures. The first girl with red hair, green eyes and a bubbly personality that he had witnessed chatting up a man was marked for future games, and then he had headed to the Quarantine Zone.

With his favorite knife in hand, it didn’t take Logan long into getting into a familiar rhythm - he would swing to the left, cutting across the zombie’s chest, and then the right before stepping back out of the way of it’s shuffling grasp, and drive his knife into its hide. If he got dirty, he didn’t care - it was evident by the mild splatters on his shoes, dried black bloodstains on his gray slacks from ferals. It wasn’t until he had begun to exhaust himself that he noticed a familiar face from the evening before. A sibling. “Rhett.” He greeted, “Right?”

Rhett Keyes The tall male was doing his usual surveying of the flats, keeping close to Dhara who was doing the same thing, but working in a pattern to circle back to the other after collecting things, like ears and feral blood-primarily looking for the blood to craft things with.

Rhett moved towards the piano where he saw a taller, faster creature that seemed to be sitting on the stool. Or attempting to get over it. Either way, it amused the guy to no end. Just thinking of some dead, brainless thing learning to play something grand like Chopin or Beethoven. Rhett was about to move in for the kill, when he heard his name from a guy who was approaching in his direction. He stopped, holstered his gun and then nodded. “Yeah.” Rhett’s eyes squinted as he studied the other male, trying to place where he had seen him. It had been pretty recent. And that’s when it clicked for him. Rhett was usually with Dhara and so it had to have been at the Fforde party, if not at work and Rhett didn’t make a point to remember many people at work. The people that came in were just far too many. “Lu-no. Logan, right?” Rhett offered a hand out to the guy, dismissing the feral at the piano for now.

<Logan> Logan didn’t socialize often. Truthfully, the man had always been a bit one to be around people, but be off in his own little world mentally. He was charming, charismatic… but he was distant, often, he tried to cut off his own emotions. Mariah had often tried to make him open up to others, but it hadn’t been something he wanted. It wasn’t him. It wasn’t something that he wanted to do. If he got too close to people, something could slip. Or, he would admit to something he didn’t want admitted. And, he hadn’t really minded it. Logan was content to be away from people.

It had all been perfect, and then Logan had run into Jesse, which had changed things. People seemed to care about him now, and it bothered him on some level. But, there were people that he found interesting, or nice enough to be around. And so far, Rhett had been deemed one of them - just because he was. “Yes, Logan Sanders.” He paused as he reached over to take hold of the other’s hand, giving it a firm shake, “Or I suppose it’s Fforde, isn’t it? Never quite sure on that.” He frowned. “Sorry I had to leave the party early, been dealing with some unpleasantries since I’ve been turned.”

Rhett Keyes It was Logan. Just as Rhett thought, even though he briefly believed he was Lucas, or something close to that. “Logan.” Rhett said for further emphasis, making sure he remembered the guy’s face that went with the name. “And I don’t know. I guess technically it is-but I’m on the fence about that myself.” Rhett admitted after pulling his hand back from the shake. “Kind of weird to change my name after it’s been the same for over thirty years. You know?” Rhett looked around, wondering if Dhara was down here. “Rhett Keyes. Like the thing you use to get in your house, only a little variation in spelling.” Rhett shared with Logan while his eyes landed on the thing in the corner. “Isn’t that the most insane thing you’ve seen?” It was for Rhett, because outside of work and sleeping, his life was...dull. Before he became a vampire that was and before Dhara.

“No need to apologize. We bolted early too. Dhara and I.” Rhett admitted while a hand went to the back of his neck. “People got things to do and places to be. I get that more than anyone lately.” He did too. Rhett had a new job, Rhett had Dhara and Fforde too. Places to be, things to do for one or all of them every night. “You live in the flats here or?” Rhett asked curiously, eyes deviating back to Logan.

"Yeah, I get it. I'll probably use Sanders, nothing against Jesse, but my wife had tried to get me to take her last name and it just is strange to take another man's." After being adamant for so long in not changing his name, period. "Good to properly meet you, Rhett." He stuffed his hands in his pockets, his stance relaxing a bit. The man followed the other's gaze and he gave a nod of his head in agreement. It was definitely insane. "I remember when this area wasn't known as the Quarantine Zone. I had friends that worked over in the market." Logan nodded towards the general direction, "How long have you been like this?"

Vampires. He would have laughed had someone told him last year that he'd become a vampire. Mariah had been a fan of Twilight and made him suffer through all five movies. She had even tried to convince him to take her to Forks, Washington, at one point. "At least I ain't the only one." He shifted his weight, folding his arms in front of his chest afterwards. "Nah. I've got a place down over in Swansdale when I'm not staying in Limbo. Might look into a place around here, though. I'm in here enough if not in the slums." He squinted, looking towards the elevator, "What about you and Dhara?

Sanders. Logan Sanders. Rhett would remember that name, as to not make the mistake to call him Logan Fforde. Rhett understood his reasoning, more than understood it and so all he did was nod his head. "Nice to meet you too, Logan." Rhett listened to Logan more or less reminiscing about a time when things were different and Rhett remembered those times too. "Seems like yesterday things changed so damn quick in the city."

Rhett wasn't complaining, just reminiscing, just as Logan seemed to be doing. Life changed, so the world was going to change. No point in pretending it didn't and wouldn't. Just had to go with it. Make lemonade when life gave you lemons sort of thing. Not that Rhett had a bitter taste about life. Quite contrary.

"Me and Dhara?" He asked, thinking about what Logan might be talking about. "Oh, yeah. We got a place in here. We prefer to be here. Not that anything is wrong with Jesse's place. We're just content with being in the others company. And private people." Rhett said with a single nod. He didn't feel it was anyone's business what they got up to-and quite frankly he suspected people appreciated them not being all over the other in plain sight.

"And let me think...just under a year, maybe? Probably around ten months or so now." Rhett said as his hand rubbed at his hair, pushing it back and forth as he thought about it. "Not a lot has changed. Other than having to find a new job that suited my...um...handicaps, I guess you could call it." He chuckled and gave a soft shrug of his shoulders. "It's not been all that life altering for me-Dhara though...." He trailed off thinking about how Dhara had taken to the change. "Hers was an accidental sort of thing. Took some time getting used to." Rhett admitted, still sore about the subject since he was the one that accidentally turned her into a vampire after a round of foreplay.

"So what are you doing now? Has life altered dramatically for you?" Rhett imagined everyone took the fact of being a vampire differently, Rhett more casual and went with the flow of things, because what else could he do? While Dhara took some time getting used to things after a subtle freak out session when the two had no idea what the hell was going on.
