Bittersweet Memories

<Every> It had been almost a year, maybe two, the last time that Every had found the pendant with the design on it. Once, it had meant something to her - a symbol towards the DoD that she had suggested. It was as she tossed the piece of jewelry up and down in thought that she pulled her phone from her pocket, scrolling down to a name that she hadn’t spoken to in a while before sending a text. It was out of the blue, but what the hell.
[text] Hey Pru, it’s Eve. I found something that I’d like to give you. You busy?
<Prudence> The redhead was wading through vampire soot as she wandered the lionelli fortress. It was a typical run for her-if not there, then the caverns. Nathaniel wasn’t in the caverns, so she suspected he was somewhere in the castle. It was just a matter of finding him. And while she did that, Prudence didn’t mind dispersing of some wanna be bad asses that appeared from nowhere.
Prudence rounded a corner and finally found what she was looking for. “Hey, baby.” She said with a small smirk before she pounced on him and had them both crashing to the floor of the castle. “Tag.” She said with a cackle before vanishing into the shadows and running away. He could probably find her easily enough, her steps weren’t quieted, an intentional mishap on her part. And before she could get too far, her phone went off, blaring some tune she didn’t recognize for a span of seven or eight seconds. “Well shoot.” Prudence groaned as her booted feet scuffed the castle’s floor as she hid in a corner in the southwest part of the second floor. She looked at the message and then said ‘hmmm.’
Prudence honestly had no idea who Eve was. But it was strange that her name popped up, which meant that Prudence and her must have exchanged in some form of conversation at some point. “Be back later, baby!” Prudence shouted as she descended the stairs to the main floor of the castle, wiping some ash off the hem of her blackskirt.
Uhm! Hey Eve. I can meet you anywhere. Where are you? My bar is in Coastside, or if you're in the cherrydale area, there is Grey’s saloon? Let me know where you want to meet? Pru sent the text and secured her phone back in the top part of her dress before walking to the Bullwood train station. She didn’t mind meeting anyone she didn’t know a lot about, but it was smart to meet them in a public location, in case anything went bad quickly.
<Every> Every pulled her jacket on and rolled one of her shoulders. There was a stiffness there from the way she’d been sprawled on her couch while writing for too long, the muscle locking up due to misuse. Pausing, she traded her heels for a simple pair of suede boots for ease of movement, and then stuffed her keys into her pocket. Even if Prudence didn’t get back to her, she figured it’d be nice to mail it to her. Every didn’t want it. Although she’d liked the Daughters of Destiny, her dislike of Superbia had grown due to the woman’s disappearance and then the group had fallen to pieces. She had contacted Aly once after it had been closed to get her money back, but the woman hadn’t listened.
She had gone back to only Tytonidae and Andras, something that was enough for her, anyway. The friendships she’d created would always be a part of her, as would the relationship with Azariel during that time, but it was easier to just close that chapter entirely. Leaving her dwelling, the brunette wrapped the thin, long gold chain around her wrist for the time being - Every wasn’t big on putting things in her pockets other than her phone and keys. In her experience, it could fall out or get stuck if she was unlucky enough.
The phone rang in her pocket as she had made it to Gullsborough, Every digging the device out and checking over the message before her eyebrow lifted. “That doesn’t sound like Prudence.“ She blinked and double checked the number, maybe she’d dialed the wrong Prudence? It wasn’t possible, however, she only knew one. Typing out a reply as she bought a ticket for Coastside, she sent, I can meet you at your bar in a few. See you soon. and then pocketed it once again.
She knew over time people changed - she was evidence of it, as were her childer and the rest of her family, her friends. Things changed. Sometimes it bothered her, other times it didn’t - the significance of it varied and generally was the reason behind her ability to tolerate it. Every didn’t like change, she liked consistence.
<Prudence> Prudence had decided on taking the train, but then changed her mind. A few meant a few minutes and she was all the way in Bullwood. This Every person would probably beat her by a long shot. So, Prudence looked around, started off in a run and made her way over to her bar in a zip. “Hey, Big Red.” Her bouncer said as soon as he saw her appear from nowhere. J.J. was used to this by now, having worked for Prudence for years now and he was one of those special humans that knew what she was. ”Hey, J.J.” Prudence punched him in the shoulder before looking around. ”Quiet night?” She hoped so and got the confirmation that it was with a nod of his head. ”See ya later.” Prudence waved over her shoulder before entering the saloon and letting her eyes fall on her thrall, Ryker. Another in the know human, but this one she enthralled. J.J. would probably be her next should anything ever happen to Ryker. Not that he knew that, but it had definitely been on the redhead’s mind.
”Heya.” Prudence said as she scooted up to the bar and took a seat at it. ”Seen any new faces in here yet?” Prudence asked as her eyes looked around anyways. Ryker pointed out a table of women, but they went dismissed by the woman. Every was coming alone, it seemed, so she wouldn’t be with a table of women. ”Thank ya.” Prudence moved to a booth by the entrance, kicked her booted feet up, and let them come to rest on the booth across from her, under the table.
<Every> The shadow took a seat down a few feet away from a group of teenagers that were chattering on about vampires. The topic amused her, really, as she ran her tongue along her teeth before leaning back. It wouldn’t be too far of a ride and it was always entertaining to hear what people thought they knew. The older of the boys swore that they were real - that his dad had seen one. A girl with gold round glasses countered that the boys dad was a drunk, which caused Every to cough into her hand, covering up a minor snort that had managed to escape past her lips. “That doesn't mean anything!” His voice shot up an octave, his face reddening and the rest of the passengers on the train gave him a look. Sheepishly, the boy sank lower into his seat. “Billy, you’re going to end up in the nuthouse one day for these theories of yours.” Another girl laughed and Every leaned back, her head resting against the window as she lifted her arm to look at the pendant.
Out of all of the ‘sisters’ there, Every had been closest to Prudence, who she’d been the second-to-the-crone under Superbia. They hadn't given her **** about being Tytonidae, and had accepted that she had her own views as they did. They’d accepted she’d been dysfunctional and a little bit on the violent side anyway. As the train came to a stop at Coastside, Every heard Billy and his friends still continuing their conversation while she made her way to the door. She heard the girl laugh, asking if he thought ghosts existed, too and it was as she watched the boy look even more embarrassed, she made a split minute decision to summon Zachary while speaking into his mind. “Please scare these bastards witless.” Stepping onto the platform, Every heard him ask, “Why the hell would I do that?” and the group looked around. Their screams brought a grin to her lips and she took off in a light jog towards the Saloon.
She had only been in there a few times, mostly during hunts or through the eyes of her wraith, but it seemed some things didn’t change. But as she turned her head, searching for Prudence, her eyebrow lifted as the sight of the rowdy redhead in a skirt. “Well, that's different. Don't think I’ve ever seen you wear a skirt. How’s it been?”
<Prudence> A woman with dark hair was looking around the bar and Prudence suspected this might be the Every person that texted her phone. They were looking for something or someone, and wasn’t someone Prudence recognized off the bat, and when she gave a look to Ryker, the woman shook her head, indicating she didn’t know who she was. Prudence glanced down at her skirt and then blinked. ”Oh. Well, I mean I’ve been wearing them a while now. Since Nathaniel more or less talked me into them. They work.” The woman said, watching Every’s face for any indication she knew who Prudence was talking about. Maybe she was a friend of her husband’s. That made sense. Someone she knew, but didn’t really know.
”Alright, I guess. Busy, but fine. Quiet. Not in here. It never is in here.” Prudence laughed and then extended an arm for a shake. ”Every, right?” Prudence genuinely believed that this was the first time they were meeting, outside of passing by the other in some event or something. ”Ya drinking something? On the house.” Prudence smiled at the woman before rocking back and forth on her feet. ”I, uhhhh...have no idea what you’re about to give me, but if it ain’t for certain eyes to see, we can head to my office?” The woman looked Every up and down, trying to see what this thing might be.
<Every> Nathaniel. Every didn’t think she knew the name and her eyebrow lifted once again. If there would be one night that it decided to get stuck like that, it would be then. “Maybe she finally moved on from that twat, Cliff.” It was a good move, if so. She had never liked him, really, or even remotely understood what Prudence had saw in the man that Every often compared to a hairless ape. She was opinionated, she knew, but he had accused her far too many times for being the reason his idiot childe hadn’t left the shadow realm.
As Prudence extended her arm, Every could only stare at it for a moment before she looked at the woman in confusion. She then lifted her hazel gaze around, searching for cameras to see if Prudence was messing with her. “Yes… or Eve, as most call me. You included.” She said cautiously before remembering a time when Nishaa had shot her in her head and memories had been forgotten. Some still hadn’t returned, she didn’t think they would and she preferred it that, but what bothered her most was the fact she still couldn’t go without wearing her glasses at times. “Unless it's made a certain way, I’m afraid I’ll have to turn the offer down.”
Sliding the necklace down off her wrist, she lifted it and then held the necklace out. “It ain't anything serious. I found this, thought you may like it for a memento from the DoD. Considering Superbia is back to Azraeth, ain’t gonna bother giving it to him.”
<Prudence> Prudence was rightly confused with Every-or Eve. While the redhead listened to Every, she wasn’t sure why the woman was here. Prudence swore she never saw her before in her life, or maybe she had, but it obviously wasn’t anything big or special for her to remember some random woman she never heard of before tonight. “Nope. We just serve what’s on our menu.” Prudence stated in regards to getting something that was made a certain way. Prudence knew what Eve meant, but they didn’t have that here. Prudence had always thought putting that in her place of business was risky, so she wasn’t going to be taking part in that garbage.
The tall killer watched Every pull something off from around her wrist and hold it out to Prudence. The mention of DoD had her attention, only because Prudence had written about it a couple times in her journal, but every time she tried to think about it-nothing came to mind. The same for this Superbia person-who CC swore Prudence was in love with, but the woman couldn’t believe **** that fell out of that mini’s mouth. Prudence remembered a lot of stories CC spun and all the crazy **** surrounding CC all the time. Prudence was glad to have washed her hands of that crazy *****.
“Uhmmm...thanks?” There was confusion evident in her voice, but Prudence made no move for the necklace Every was holding out to her. “I don’t really wear that kinda stuff.” Prudence didn’t want to say, I don’t know why you’re giving me that, I don’t know what you’re talking about, so she went with a more direct truth. Prudence didn’t wear stuff like that unless crafted by Nathaniel. Then she wore it for him, because she appreciated his hard work.
<Every> “It doesn’t bother me one way or another.” She lifted her shoulder and let it fall in a shrug. While she went into bars and she still craved alcohol from time to time, it was usually when she was down or agitated about something. Because of Micah, though, and a weakness to most toxins, she had to watch who she fed off anyway, or she would end up out for the count. It was one of the few things about being a vampire that Every had grown to dislike, in addition to an issue with becoming weaker during the full moon. Only one good thing had come from that, and her childe Kirill though loyal, was a pain in the *** with his insults she didn’t always understand.
You don’t remember me, do you?” The question couldn’t help but call from her lips, “Did someone shoot you in the head, or-?” She stopped. It was an awkward question and she paused as she tried to figure out a better way to go around it. “The way you greeted me, then, I don’t think you did that even when we first met.” Then again, hadn’t the first time they met it was either through hunting or a cage match, she couldn’t remember it exactly. When she set the necklace back into her own palm, she pursed her lips lightly.
