Distractions [Avis]

The crypt was empty. Judas was sleeping in their bed. Mora was awake in her fluffy white sheep pajamas. She had a mountain of paperwork to do before sunrise, people needed to be paid - she had to pay the rent for most of the business locations. Despite the rise of her own bank account she was always funding money to someone, or somewhere. It was hard work running four businesses. Rain had offered to start doing the paperwork, so she could go to bed with her husband, but there was just so much. She couldn’t just dump it all on her. It was obvious she was showing initiative by being more involved, Rain liked to do things by herself. She was independent much like she was when she was younger. The more she thought about it, Rain and Mora were much more like than she liked to admit.
The pen tapped against the desk, her feet kicking at the wood of the table. Work was overwhelming her and her appetite was rising she looked to her husband’s sleeping face. The way his hands wrapped around the sheets where she should be right now, the way he clung to the sheets, he should be clinging to her right now. Not those sheets. She got up and placed a tender kiss to the tip of his nose. She looked to the beanie that used to belong to Cai, the beanie that used to represent him, it was sitting on the bedside table. She smiled and got up the pen still in hand as she made her way from the bedroom to the main area of the Crypt. She went to the small shop and purchased a blood bag.
Where she proceeded to push a straw into the bag and began to drink it. Some people would disapprove of this method, but she thought it was good enough. She didn’t complain at all. Her moss green orbs then ventured to the bookcase where she kept some of her favorites. Perhaps to distract herself she could read a book, that always calmed her. There was something about losing herself into a good book that always settled her. The blonde telepath plucked a green spined book and flipped it over to look at the cover; Alice in Wonderland. One of her ultimate favorites.
What she didn’t notice was that Judas’s newest had landed at the ritual altar, she was too busy looking at the cover of her book. It was only when he took a step forward that she stopped what she was doing and looked at him, and then looked down at her childish PJ’s. She raised an eyebrow. They hadn’t met formally as of yet.
“Hello.” Was all she said.

Pale blue hues scanning the open area in front of him, a few trees grew around the place but not enough to obscure the view. Eagle eyes could find creatures roaming about the place, each doing their own thing and none suspecting they were being hunted. The vampires nostrils flared at the scents as the last of the sun slipped beyond the horizon, his eyes training in on a large brown bear. Cautiously he crept up on the unsuspecting bear but the dark passenger in the back of his mind did not agree with his tactics at all, instead it aimed to mock him and torment him into doing something else.
‘Come on you weak *****, you can take this bear out without needing to sneak up on it. It’ll be more fun. If you can kill your parents with ease, a bear is nothing, not now you’re a vampire.’
Rage started to build, no matter how much he tried to hide his true nature; he was a killer at heart. It was true that his parents had been killed for a valid reason, they beat him senseless over his entire childhood, but secretly he had this tingling sensation as he controlled when his family took their last breaths. But as upsetting as it was to hear his passenger say so, it was also right, he could take down a bear with minimal issues and that was what he was about to do.
Jackson let out a guttural snarl so forceful he felt it vibrate against his chest; he sized up the bear as it swung an arm forth, claws barely missing the vampire. He grabbed the bear in a grapple but it didn’t last, the sheer height of the bear aided its assault. Arms and paws flailed wildly, claws caught on his shirt and ripped a few small lengths of material as he managed to grasp one paw of the bear and clench with all his might, breaking the bones. After a few long moments of grappling and clawing, the vampire pulled out his knife and with a few swift motions he sliced the bear’s throat.
‘Bored. You can do better.’
Jackson shook his head, some small part of him thinking that might actually shake off the passenger for a while. With his need to hunt sated for now, he made his way back to the crypt, slipping in the front door as silently as he could manage. He took his leftover bits from his hunt to the alter but decided he was too tired to bother. As he turned to walk away, he nearly bumped right into someone that he was kind of familiar with. As she spoke, he took a moment to get a good look at her and take note of her face for future reference.
“Hello. Is that blood on your lip? If so, I think you missed some.”
Jackson simply smiled softly, almost devilishly as he watched her.

The book was firmly in her hand as she set her moss orbs upon the male, watching him curiously. He looked at her, and she stared at him. Every now and again her eyes looked over towards the sleeping form of her husband. Mora wasn’t the most social of butterflies, so when she came face to face with someone whom she didn’t know she crawled inside her shell and stayed there. Blinking a few times she finally set down the book upon the altar, the blood bag drained as she threw it towards the bin as it fell inside the rim.
“It’s not blood.” She dabbed at her lips, a few droplets were soaked up by her index fingers as she laughed a little. “Sorry, didn’t expect company. I was just getting some work done whilst Judas slept.” How she would give to be sleeping next to him right now, sigh.
She could feel his eyes upon her, and couldn’t quite understand why he was staring at her. Was it those sheep PJ’s? they were kind of childish. She didn’t expect company. Rain and Jacques knew how much she liked to wear stupid PJ’s. They didn’t bat an eyelid at her, when she came out in stupid things. The blonde telepath even had a teddy bear that she liked to keep close by.
“Jackson is it?” She asked, as she turned her eyes back to him. She made her way back to her mountain of paperwork. “Judas is sleeping, keep the noise down if you can. What brings you to the crypt?” Forest hues looked directly at the male as she picked up her pen again and began to start signing her signature on the dotted line a few times.

Jackson watched her eyes dart between him and the bedroom, curiously he wondered if she expected trouble from him or if it was simply a comfort thing. His own blue hues darted toward the altar as she set the book down and then to the bin as something fell inside. As she spoke of her sleeping partner, Jacksons sire, he couldn’t help but feel slightly lonely. It was stupid really, to be lonely when he barely knew a soul here, it was only natural that he wouldn’t have people to spend nights with in any regard. Alas, the feeling was still itching at the back of his mind, at least until his passenger took over.
‘Do you really think anyone would want you? You are defective. You killed your family and now you are also dead.’
The vampire mumbled to himself, to the voice inside, for it to shut up but quickly smacked his own forehead. “Sorry not meaning shut up to you. I’m just tired. I wasn’t going to come by this late, I have my own place but it’s quiet and lonely. Maybe I need a dog.” He forced a soft smile at the dog statement, knowing it was likely a dumb idea. Dogs usually have a sixth sense about people and creatures, so he imagined it would only bark and cause a scene which he did not need, nor did any of the vampire kind.
Large hands rubbed from his beard, up over his cheeks and covered his face for a moment. Even though he was dead, he still exhaled softly; he was trying to train breathing to become second nature. Any trips among the humans would risk suspicion if he did not blink or breath, so constant training was in order, which luckily had been easy so far. He slowly moved his hands from his face as she spoke, as she asked him a question and then told him to keep quiet. “Yes its Jackson and don’t worry, I don’t intend on waking anyone up. I don’t really know why I’m here right now, just bored and lonely I guess.”
He thought for a moment or two, his brain actually working and the passenger keeping quiet enough he could think without issue. “This paperwork, is there any part of it that I can help with? Being unattached helps. I wouldn’t be missing any time with a partner so I could put myself to good use. Might even help my boredom too. Just a thought.”
