Addiction.

It’s something can be extremely hard to overcome. Some people went to rehab to tackle their own issues of addiction. Opal was one of those people who had an addictive personality. It started with cigarettes, she was smoking from an early age. Fourteen, all the way down in Dundee. It was her outlet, when her father blamed her over and over again for her mother's death. ’You’re a disgrace’ he would scream at her, over and over in her face until one day. Opal snapped. Grabbed a baseball bat from underneath her bed and struck him in the head and knocked him unconscious, packed her things - took her father's money and was on the next plane out of Glasgow, Scotland to somewhere far away; Canada.

Opal had done copious amounts of weed in her past. Each addiction was different for her. It gave her a buzz and made her feel like she was in control, all the way until she had got to Harper Rock. Control was taken from her when a man within a cloak had turned her into a sorcerer, unlocked the ability that was deep within her belly. Her power.

There she came across vampires. Her roommates were vampires, they brought her into their fold. Not officially, not until she was injured badly within a raid. It was a race to the top of the building, they had won. Before she became a vampire. She had learnt from a blood thief how to learn things from vampires when she drank their blood. She had drunk Kallista’s blood. Absorbing power with it. The power had got to her, there was so much power within vampires blood that she became addicted. She needed it. She didn’t care about the vampires welfare, she stole pints here and there where she could. Some offered her their vein. Others she overpowered.

That was when she became vampire. She could drink human blood, at first it was amazing. It was a rush and it made her feel powerful, and then after that the power went away. Power that she needed. Opal was addicted to the power, she needed it. Feeding from humans had become boring for her. She wanted that power she got from vampires again. Could a vampire feed on another vampire?

Opal was going to put that theory to the test.

She whipped out her phone and sent a text to Kallista. It simply read; ‘I want to try something, meet me at the old factory, the one near Newborough’ She hit send, and waited. She waited for her sire to meet her.

She was worried about Opal.

Out of everyone that the small mystic had turned, Opal was the one that had worried her the most. She had met Opal through Nell and had started inviting the human to go on raids with them. During one particular raid Opal had been too injured and Kallista knew if she didn’t step in, Opal would have died. She had grown fond of the girl over the months and couldn’t stand there and just let her die. So she had been turned. Kelly had grumbled but Kallista knew that it was just for show. Maybe. Her husband was rather grumbly about all the people that crowded their small apartment but Kallista loved having her family around her and Kelly knew that which was most likely why he only grumbled about it on occasion.

Her thoughts turned back to Opal. When she had first met the girl she had been one of those blood thieves she’d heard whispers about. Kallista had never met one and hadn’t given them much thought until Opal had approached her in a raid and asked if she would allow her to take some blood. Surprised, she had given her consent and that had been the end of it. Kallista had always meant to ask what had happened but then the accident happened and she ended up turning her, ending Opal’s days as a blood thief.

The beginning notes of Fur Elise drew the mystic’s attention signaling an incoming text. Stretching across her sleeping husband she swiped the phone from the bedside table and read the message. Opal wanted to meet where? Her brow furrowed in confusion - why couldn’t she just use her tome and come home? Unless it was something she didn’t want the others to know about? Kallista had more questions than answers but she slid out of bed and quietly dressed. Bending she pressed a kiss to her husband’s lips and slipped out of the apartment.

The factory was deserted when she entered the building, and Opal was nowhere to be found. her hand went to the handle of the blade that was tucked away safely at her side. One could never be too careful after all. “Opal?” She called cautiously and stepped further inside. “Are you here?”

The factory was dusty if anything. Cobwebs littered the corners, she could hear the scurry of spider legs crawling up the walls. It unnerved Opal. She hated creepy crawlies. Dark hues looked to the doorway in which she knew Kallista would be coming through, she didn’t doubt for a second that her sire wouldn't show. Opal knew that Kallista was an attentive sire, she liked to be around the woman most of the time, she barely left the apartment sometimes. Kelly had become used to her company. Opal lounged on the sofa. Day and Night. Still as a statue.

But now, something was growing restless within the shadow. She had been thinking about her days as a blood thief, she wanted the blood. She craved the power blood gave her. Dark hues lifted at the sudden sound of a door opening. Kallista creeped inside, she looked nervous. Opal didn’t blame her.
  • 1) She was outside of the apartment.
    2) She was very vague in her text to her sire.
    3) She asked her to meet her at a factory.
All strange things, very uncharacteristic of Opal. She didn’t realise she was still enveloped by the shadows. She shrugged them off her like they were some kind of cloaked and appeared to her sire with a smile. Fangs on show. Her mane of golden hair was down to her hips, and her skin still heavily tattooed. Her naval ring had been removed months ago, when the skin had healed over from her siring. She found she couldn’t wear piercings anymore. They healed instantly.

“Kali!” She smiled. Moving closer. Hugging her sire, before withdrawing. Opal was wearing leather trousers and a white shirt. Very plain for someone like Opal who often liked to think big. “I’m sorry to have called you away from Kelly. I just didn’t know who else I could contact about this.” She cast her eyes down again. “It’s happening again.” She admitted. “The thoughts are back, I’m thinking about blood again, the power it can give.”
