A Quiet Place (Cosimo)

The nights have passed calmly enough for Lillian. She had found herself a small job cleaning a gym at nights and it paid enough for her to afford the basics of life. She had no luck for now in running into the man she had met that night but she knew well the city was so big but the world was smaller than people thought. If it was meant to happen it rightly would in its own time.
Tonight though would be a minor celebration. She was on her way to finding an apartment of her own and wanted to reward herself. With her work for the night done it left the streets fairly dark and the lights in the night were still visible. Not far from the gym was a small bakery she had become keen on since finding it. She had decided she would never accept something very sweet unless she had truly earned it so for tonight she had gotten herself a small roll of spiced bread.
She contently walked the streets as she nibbled away on her treat and tried her best to take the correct path home. She would still get lost from time to time but thankfully it was becoming less common. Though she seemed to waste a bit more time, waiting for the night to be darker so her trip across the wall would become easier. Her bouncing across was starting to be noticeable, the scant few guards from before had grown a bit and she knew if she wasn’t careful she would not get away with just a scratch.
At the thought her arm throbbed softly, shoving the bread nub into her mouth to free her hands and pull up her sleeve. She had done a modest job of wrapping up the small slice in her arm, a bullet coming closer than desired and barely biting into the flesh. For now her goal was to keep the bleeding from starting again. She rolled her sleeve back down, inhaling the rest of the bread, finding herself in a familiar place as she began to munch on it.
The window she had paused in front of reflected her face with the dim lights from inside. She had returned here a couple times, looking for apartments for rent or the odd chance of running into Cosimo again. Once the bread was gone she sighed at the loss and gazed in at the photos off apartments and houses. She had quite a way to go before she could afford any of them.
