“Come on, man”
“No.”
“I got $100 can’t I pay the rest some other time?”
“$100 won’t square your bill, ‘vi.”
“I can pay the rest next week, I swear”
“You said that last month. You blew that money on gambling at the Casino. It should have come to me”
There was a sigh, that escaped from the silver haired man.
“That won’t happen again, Jim”
“It won’t”
“So you’ll give me the ****?”
“No, I’m not selling to you until you can actually pay for this ****, by yourself.”
Jim - a rather stern looking man, with a blonde beard flicked the cigar from his mouth and dropped it at Levi’s feet. Levi, who was dressed in a black raincoat and shaggy looking trousers was staring at this man with a shake of his head. He needed a fix. Living on the streets did that to you. He had fled to Harper Rock to avoid the men that were after him for his ginormous debt he had in Las Vegas. Levi was everything destructive. He had a gambling problem, he drank a lot. He also liked to smoke weed. The man was a walking and talking timebomb.
“Jim… please.”
There was a plea to Levi’s tone as his arm snaked out and grabbed the blonde’s arm. The bulky looking man turned around to look at Levi his brows knitted together in a scowl. He shook off the man’s grasp and grabbed another cigar from his chest pocket and lit it up. The tip sparking orange, as it illuminated his upper lip and the tip of his nose as he mulled over the plea.
“No.”
“But….”
“No. Next time you ask - and you don’t have the money the pay for up front for it. I got a bullet with your name on it.”
This time, Jim turned away from the man and slipped into his silver cameo. Asshole. Levi turned around and looked at the green papers in his hand and made his way to the nearest bar. He didn’t look at the name - he didn’t a flying ****. He needed to get drunk and quick. Pushing himself into a stool he slapped his hand onto the counter. The barkeep looked him over curiously.
“Give me the strongest spirit you’ve got. I want to get drunk, and quick.”
The bartender did exactly what Levi asked him. He handed him a glass of moonshine, and charged the already broke man $40 for it. Levi paid him willingly.

“Are you sure you don’t want me to come?” The look he gave her made it obvious that he did not like the idea of her going alone.
“Positive.” She replied brushing a quick yet reassuring kiss to his mouth. “Besides, you know what happens when you go to places like that. All hell breaks loose and we end up in the middle of a bar brawl. As much fun as that can be it won’t help what I need to do. I will be careful. I promise.”
“Fine. But you better call if **** goes south.” His expression was deadly serious and she knew better than to make a joke about it at the current time. His concern for her was endearing and that he worried so only made her love him that much more. “I know how these jobs go, Vel.”
“Babe, I will be fine and I promise you will be the first to know if anything goes wrong. The sooner I go, the sooner I can be back and maybe we will have the rest of the night to ourselves. Ok? Ok.”
She shrugged on her jacket and fished her hair from beneath her collar allowing it to spill freely over her shoulders. One more parting kiss was delivered to his brow before she grabbed her gun from the table and tucked in back as she made her way to the elevator, forming a mental list of the most likely places that would likely have what she needed. Abandoned buildings? The slums? Some dive bar perhaps? The city offered all of the above but she decided to try the bars first.
Her procurement business often had her doing some rather questionable things but it paid well and it catered to the darker parts of her that sought the adventure and the taboo. What this particular client was asking for, however, was something that once upon a time would have turned her stomach. In her previous employment there was whispers and suspicions of such goings on and some of the things she witnessed laid out on the steel table before accompanied with the whispering of the spirits confirmed it.
The hunting of humans for sport was kind of like the dog fighting rings. There was evidence of them happening. You knew they happened but they were kept very quiet. The ‘clubs’ were extremely exclusive and very rarely did the victims live to tell the tale.
This was what she was expected to deliver. A live target.
Of all the species the human race was the most disgusting. They were more depraved, sadistic and hateful than any other animal. They tortured and killed for fun. Taking lives for sport was the worst crime of all. Yet here she was on her way to find and deliver such a target to some bored, rich men’s club that decided murder would be fun. She argued that it was at least one effective way to clean up the streets. There were many out there who deserved to die for the atrocities that they, themselves had inflicted upon others. Too many that should have been behind bars were walking the streets free to do as they pleased. As much as the justice system worked, it also failed. This was how Velveteen made it right. She had the chance to make right what the law couldn’t. At least that is what she told herself.
Sometimes she felt like those characters in a cartoon who would argue with the little angel and devil that sat on their shoulders. Right and wrong creating a constant dilemma for the vampire who believed herself to be righteous and just yet could not deny that twisted part of her that had always existed in the darker recesses of her mind. More and more that part of her was coming out to play, unraveling the very fabric of her existence and whilst it excited her it also scared the **** out of her.
As soon as the door opened her senses were assaulted by the foul odours of sweat and stale beer. Smoke hung heavily just above her head and escaped through the open door after being trapped in the small , unventilated, dimly light room that served as a bar for the human refuse that frequented it, most likely because they had nowhere else to go. It was a dive. It was perfect.
Barely an eye lifted in her direction. Most intent on drowning their problems in the glass they were nursing or for those who got lucky, busy clumsily groping each other in one of the booths in the back corner. The seedy little dance floor was empty except for one dishevelled looking woman that swayed out of time in front of the jukebox that looked like it had also seen better days. She appeared to be about fifty at first glance; Velveteen guesstimated she was probably only about half that but had been aged horribly by her addiction if the roadmap of track marks up the inside of her arm was any indication. She would never understand why people did that to themselves.
“******* junkies.” She mumbled to herself as she made her way to the bar to better survey the area. The bartender came as she slid onto a stool and she waved him away without ordering mumbling something about waiting for someone. He shrugged his shoulders and moved back to his perch to continue polishing the one glass with the filthy towel that had been slung over his shoulder.
A pack of smokes and lighter appeared from her pocket and she placed them on the bar before freeing one of the small white cylinders and tapping it thoughtfully against the sticky bar before delivering it to her lips. Her hand came up to cup the flame more out of habit than necessity and that was where she was when he walked in.
The dark haired vampire did her best to blend though no one paid much attention to her and she casually set the Zippo down on the pack as a soft plume of white smoke was exhaled and floated upwards. A perfectly manicured brow hitched upwards slightly at the money tendered for the drink. The male didn’t look like he enough for many more of those. In fact he looked like he had spent the night in a dumpster though she had to be certain before she made any snap decisions. The man on the phone was very adamant that it was to be someone who would not be missed. She would have to know more before she made a choice.
“Sounds like someone is having a bad night.” She spoke, leaning forward on her elbows that were resting on the bar in the driest spot she could find. A crooked grin was plastered across her reddened lips as she studied the male through curious silver orbs.

He looked at his empty glass of moonshine and shook the glass in the bartender's face. He wanted another drink. He kept shaking the glass until finally the man refilled it and Levi repeated the process of paying the man the $40 that he charged the gambler. Levi rubbed at the stubble on his chin, clearly agitated about how things went down with Jim. The guy was an asshole if you asked Levi, he was always a closed off ******** - that didn’t like Levi touching his ****. Levi himself couldn’t even pay for anything anymore.
He missed Savannah’s face. He kept a picture of her in his jacket pocket. Away from prying eyes. He pulled out this small photo of her happy, smiling face and looked at it. His thumb stroked at the photograph. The full glass of moonshine in his other hand - as he necked it back in one go, before slamming the glass down on the counter. With a ‘Ah’ noise to boot. He squeezed his eyes shook, canting his head to the side as the strong alcohol slipped down his trachea and slipped into his system. The room began to spin a little. His vision blurred as he shook the glass yet again at bartender. Levi didn’t have anymore money to pay the bartender. He was fresh out.
“A 3rd Moonshine? Do you want to be in the hospital?”
“Jus… give me the ‘uckin booze”
“You got the money?”
Levi hiccuped.
“I can get it.. start a tab.”
The bartender shook his head and turned away from Levi and began to tend to a blonde bimbo down the other end. Levi wanted to move to her side and try to mooch alcohol off of her, but he knew he would get knocked into the next century if he tried it. Levi looked like a homeless bum who had just come in off the streets, and honestly. He had. He hadn’t had a shower in a week. He probably smelt like rotting garbage.
He didn’t notice the woman come up beside him at first, he was too busy looking at the blonde. Only until her voice dragged him out of that fog, he slowly turned his head towards her and was suddenly awe struck by her beauty. He blinked a few times to make sure he wasn’t dreaming - which knowing Levi’s current state was completely plausible.
“Is it obvious, darlin”
Came the southern drawl. He turned to the woman and flashed her a smile. Quickly placing the photograph of Savannah into it’s hiding place in his jacket pocket.

Velveteen was able to get a pretty good look at the photo while the man eyed the female at the end of the bar, which disappeared quickly when he realised he wasn't alone. There was something about the woman in the picture that was oddly familiar though Velveteen couldn't place why. The chances that she would know the woman in the picture were close to none. Perhaps it was the setting itself, or just one of those pictures that looked familiar to everyone. It didn't really matter much but she would have to find out if there was anyone somewhere waiting for this guy's *** to return home.
When he spoke, that southern drawl caught her off guard and the smile that followed it could have knocked her over. It took her moment to recoup as she shook it off. This place, must have been getting to her a little, overwhelming her senses. She was beginning to imagine things, like the fact that she felt that she somehow knew this guy though she was certain she had never laid eyes on him in her life. Like the fact that for the briefest of moments he reminded her of her husband, something that made her scoff inwardly. As ludicrous as it was she was still experiencing the strangest sensation of deja vu and was finding it rather unsettling. Again she shook it off as she dug in her pocket and pulled out a couple of bills. The cash was waved at the bartender, attracting his attention before she placed them by the southern gentleman's glass.
"Just a little." She paused and offered the man a smile of her own. "This is going to sound really cheesy but...Have we met before?"
Velveteen was certain that that wasn't possible but the conversation had to start somewhere and try as she might she could not shake the strong sense of familiarity. She reached for another cigarette and lit it, hoping the flavour and scent of the tobacco would subtly cloak the funky aromas that were assaulting her senses. Her elbows found the bar once more and her head tilted to the side a little as she waited for a response.
Ever restless orbs watched with disinterest as the bartender finally had seen fit to once again fill the empty glass after the folded bills beside it had mysteriously disappeared beneath his grabby palm. A grateful nod was offered for his service and he made his way back to the blonde who was likely getting her drinks for free while he peered down her aging cleavage.

Levi turned to look at the woman beside him fully, turning his whole body on his side so his elbow pressed against the bar to easily eye her like she was candy. Oh, and she was. That raven black hair was to die for.
“Alri darlin’”
His eyes and body turned to face the bar again. He needed another drink. His lips needed to get wet again. He was already beginning to feel his senses again and that to him was a bad idea. His hand slammed against the wood of the bar, hammering for the bartender’s attention. The dickhead needed to give him a drink, and pronto.
“Oi!”
The bartender flicked his eyes to Levi. Rolling his eyes.
“I’m getting sober over ‘ere”
“Good, it’ll make a difference.”
“The lovely lady over ‘ere would like a drink. Give her a moonshine. Bring two.”
“No, if your lovely lady wants a drink, she can order it herself. She’s a big girl.”
“‘uckin dick’ed”
The bartender yet again rolled his eyes, turning his attention to the blonde at the end of the bar, he was leaning near her. Talking to her and it pissed Levi off. He wanted a drink after a shitty night being turned down and threatened to be beaten up. I mean, how hard was it? Levi was one of those people who just couldn’t take no for an answer. Levi regrouped himself then after a small while, combing his dirty fingers through his blondish greyish hair and turned his hues back to the australian babe at his side. She was speaking to him and he didn’t really register it at first. The only thing he did, was flash her one of his trademark smiles.
“If we ‘ad met before. Trust me. I wouldda’ remembered you.”
There was truth in that. Levi never forgot a pretty face or a name that went with that pretty face. Levi dusted his dirty hand down his jacket and snaked it out for the woman to take in a manly handshake.
“Levi”

An amused grin tugged at the corners of her ruby coloured lips as she watched the display quietly. There was something about him that intrigued her, which in and of itself was a puzzle. The guy was a bum. A drug-fucked junkie who lived for his next fix, dulling the moments between with booze and desperate women. Yet, deep beneath the surface of his ratty appearance and lack of personal hygiene there was a kind of quiet confidence that seemed to exude from the male. Or maybe it was just the southern accent that was throwing her off. Either way, Velveteen couldn’t help but wonder what demons this man was running from or had given into.
A gloved hand reached out and gripped his briefly as she chuckled. “Oh I doubt that. It seems you can barely see what is right in front of you.” The drink she had ordered was gently pushed toward him with her other hand. “But it is a….pleasure to meet you, Levi. My name is Velveteen.” The Necromancer was more than thankful for the overwhelming stench of cheap perfume and stale beer that masked the various odours being emitted from her...companion that wafted her way when he moved.
“You aren’t a local are you? What brings you to Harper Rock?” She was hardly one to talk, her own Australian accent quite obvious no matter how hard she tried to disguise it at times.
She reached for another cigarette and then offered the packet to Levi who could help himself if he chose to. Small talk was not one of Velveteen’s strengths but she had the added the benefit of being female and she suspected that while she was paying for the drinks she could have been singing ditties whilst standing on her head and he would have hung around.
Once smoke was billowing softly from the glowing, cherry tip of her smoke she leaned forward and set both elbows on the bar once more giving Levi her undivided attention and most alluring smile as she waited to hear his story.

“Velve’een”
The name left his slips slowly, the ‘t’ of the woman’s name wasn’t pronounced - was it the alcohol talking, or was it the accent It was simply hard to tell at this point in time. Levi simply didn’t care he was quite taken with the raven haired woman, she was certainly his type. He had had his fair share of women in his time, but not one scratched the surface of what Savannah had been. The woman he had left, a moment he still regretted to this day - it was the main reason he was in this state, he gambled their money away. Leaving the woman behind, on her own. Taking what money she had to gamble it away. The woman he left, he was a terrible man. He regretted it, and he knew now if he went back the wound would be too infected. It couldn’t be healed.
“That’s a lie, ‘ove. I ca’ see what's right in front of ‘e”
There was a smirk, playing on his chapped lips.
“You’re ‘ere arn’t you.”
He certainly wasn’t dreaming that.
“No, not local”
He toyed with the zipper of his dirty jacket. Thinking, she was asking a personal question. Why was he here in Harper Rock? Could be various things. The main thing that stuck out was they had a casino, right here. He hadn’t seen one in a while, last time he had seen one was in Vegas, and he sure did like to gamble. Gambling away his life was what he did, he knew nothing else - had known nothing else for a very long time. The truth of that was written in the way Levi looked now, like a hobo.
“I heard the ‘asinos are good ‘ere”
That wasn’t a lie. He deliberately left out his drug addiction. As the raven haired woman by the name of Velveteen offered him a smoke and he took it straight away, muttering his thanks as he grabbed the glass she pushed in his direction with his other and necked it in one single gulp. Levi was a known drunk. He could handle his liquor.
“What’s a pretty ‘oman doing ‘ere in a shitty place like ‘dis”

Velveteen listened with interest, his southern drawl thick despite the obvious effects of the alcohol on his speech. It was pretty obvious her companion considered himself very much a ladies man despite his current inebriation and less than pleasant odour. Levi was also a gambler. A man who took risks and by the looks of it, often against the odds.
The dark haired vampire paused and allowed the hokey music to fill the silence as she took a long , lazy draw from her cigarette. From where she was she had already scanned every inch of the dingy bar and took in every detail. So the more obvious look around was merely for her company's benefit than anything else. His compliment brought a sheepish smile to her reddened lips.
"Well....I was supposed to meeting someone here but it appears as though I have been stood up. Rude." She stated before returning one elbow to the bar. The woman eyed him curiously. She figured it wouldn't take too much to get him out of here, the offer of free alcohol should do it, though she hoped he passed out long before anything weird could happen. Her husband would be furious if he knew she was being half pie chatted up by some stranger right now. Levi wouldn't have lived past his first openly admiring glance.
A wad of bills was flashed towards the bartender though he was paying no attention to anything until an unfamiliar voice touched upon his thoughts. "Get us a bottle to go will ya." The man looked around and blinked as velveteen waved her hand in his direction. He looked slightly confused at what had just happened but had shrugged it off and shuffled along the bar wearily with the requested bottle in hand. The money was dropped onto the sticky bar as she took the bottle. "Keep the change." Her most generous offer was met with a rather unappreciative as he stuffed the cash into his pocket. Velveteen committed his rather average features to memory and smirked. She would get it back.
"So what do you say, Cowboy? Wanna take this party somewhere more ...comfortable?" She waved the procured bottle at him teasingly. "And where the drinks are free?"

”’ame they stood you up ‘arlin.” His words were like sandpaper being grated against a brick wall, it didn’t go so well - and sure as hell didn’t sound nice either. Levi simply couldn’t imagine how a lovely babe, like this one in front of him, could simply just be stood up, perhaps it was all a lie - perhaps she was on the prowl for older men, perhaps this - in itself, was her game. She was a cat, and he was the mouse. He didn’t mind being the mouse if that was the cat's purpose in all of this.
This charming beauties eyes were on the bartender she was watching him and Levi was watching them both, bringing the rim of his almost empty glass to his lips and taking a swig. He raised an eyebrow - unsure how the woman was able to get a bottle of -- well, whatever it was without actually saying anything. Did she point at it? He had probably missed it - he was quite drunk right now.
“Yes.” He slurred a little. As he hopped off his chair, eyeballing the bottle in her bony fingers draining the last remnants of the liquid inside the glass and began to follow Velveteen out, he had no idea what he was getting himself in for. He was like a lamb heading into the slaughter, and she - his velveteen rabbit, was the wolf.
<Velveteen> A small satisfied smirk twisted her lips as she made her way out of the bar, rife with the stench of living, and into the frigid air outside. The city smells themselves weren’t particularly pleasant but they were far less cloying and were at least carried away on the moving wind that swirled about them. She stood out on the footpath and waited for Levi to join her. It was likely going to be a rather long trip home with him stumbling about the way he was. After careful consideration, the vampire decided to hail down a cab instead. Alpha towers wasn’t far but the walk could take forever if they had to zig zag the whole way.
The dark haired vampire slid across the back sat and patted the worn leather beside her, inviting the man to join her. Her smile was something between wicked and inviting though it was likely little more than a red blur in the blood shot eyes of her companion. The amount of alcohol and lack of personal hygiene filled the small cab almost immediately and even the cab driver turned to peer at his passenger with an expression of curiousness. Though suddenly it occurred to her that she had just made a rather big mistake. The driver’s face was committed to memory along with his license number that hung from the dashboard. She would deal with him later. Best to make this look like a personal party.
She laughed as if hearing something funny. “I don’t get stood up often. But then I don’t go out often either so….it makes sense. I bet you go on lots of dates though. You strike me as a bit of a….ladies man.”
<L E V I>
He left the sound of the bar behind him. The sound of loud voices cheering and women giggling, the scene was all well and good but he did get uneasy in these kind of situations. Good thing he was drunk then. He smiled all goofy like at the woman as he followed her into the outdoors. Tripping over a crack in the pavement as he stumbled and finally managed to catch himself against a wall that was close by. “****.” He muttered. “Lost my ‘ooting.” His southern drawl came out, as usual when he got annoyed by something it was always more prominent then.
Eyes found his way to a cab that had just been hailed by the raven haired woman as he raised an eyebrow, damn she worked fast. She let go of the supportive wall, gave it a pat in thanks and headed over to the cabs backseat where Velveteen was patting the brown yet worn leather. You could tell the driver had been in the business for a long time. He hadn’t redecorated either. As Levi slid into the backseat he noticed the way the driver looked at him, and shot the man a scowl. People who stared at him always got flipped the bird, but he was a good boy tonight - especially in a woman’s company, who may actually give him some if he played his cards right.
She laughed, and he laughed with her. She was on about how she rarely got stood up and he simply nodded. The scent of alcohol rolling off him. Filling up the small cab. He slammed his head against the plastic, see through glass between them “Drive” He said.
“I am and I’m not.” He said shrugging. “I used to ‘ave a woman. Vanna. My sweet, lovely Vanna.” He put his hand over his heart then, could have been seen as a sweet gesture but really it was where he had hid the picture of Savannah.
<Velveteen> “You are but your aren’t?” A delicately tattooed brow rose curiously. ‘Sounds rather contradictory if you ask me.” She smirked, maintaining an air of flirty playfulness. Velveteen figured a couple of more shots and this guy was going to be out for the count anyways and in his current state, if he did try anything? She could sneeze and knock him on his ***. Addicts were far too easy to exploit, it almost felt unfair.
The name itself did not mean anything to her in it’s shortened state so the reference went over her head unnoticed...for now. The pair swayed in the back with every smooth turn and while she was keeping a watchful of the occupants of the small space she was also acutely aware of their outside surroundings. They were close to their destination and she leaned into the male as she stretched her hip to retrieve the cash to pay the fair and have it ready.
“So...it didn’t work and you have spent the years chasing down a dream? Finding fleeting relief in the arms of arms of strangers who you up and leave in the middle of the night? Sounds tragic. Love one of those./..romance novels or something.”
The cab came to a halt outside Alpha Towers and she passed the folded bills over before the driver even had time to give them a total. “Keep the change. Come on cowboy...we are here.”
<L E V I>
His eyes found solace in looking at the environment around them, watching the trees fleet by in a motion of green, and brown blur. Pushing themselves together to make a murky kind of colour. He turned his blue, dazzling eyes back to the woman beside him and smiled at her. She was asking about his stance on women and he simply shrugged his shoulders - it was far too hard to explain, and he was drunk. **** coming from his mouth would be like word vomit, what he would really want to say would go against him - perhaps make him look bad. So he just settled for a “‘es” the drunken version of ‘yes’ in short, to answer her question.
“No.” He said, going onto her next statement. “I became a gambling addict. I drank myself ‘upid.” He laughed, as if it was all one big joke to him. “But essentially ‘es I do find solace in the arms of a ‘aked woman who would let me have ‘er.” He laughed, again. The laughing fits usually came on when he was entering the next stage of drunk. “I don't feel anything for ‘em. **** ‘em and move ‘n” A sigh. “‘anno?”
The cab came to a halt, as Velveteen pressed against him - and for a moment, it was quite arousing having this cougar lean against him. Perhaps that was a signal, had to be a signal. She wanted him, perhaps it was his story that seemed to have gotten her so into him, didn’t blame her really. He got out, after she had paid.
“‘owboy.” Pride. “‘hats what they call me in the bedr’om” No, they really didn’t.
<Velveteen> His speech was getting harder and harder to follow and it was taking her a little longer to work out what he was saying but so far she was still managing to keep up rather decently; For how much longer was still indeterminable. “I bet they do.” Her crooked grin was one of mixed signals.
Once he had joined her on the footpath and they stood in the fading exhaust fumes of the car that had since left she hooked her arm through his and half led, half carried him in through the rather deserted lobby and further on into the elevator. The Towers were usually quiet. Inhabited only by vampires and most of those had been sleeping for an eon or more. Velveteen rarely used her apartment anymore so it was the perfect place to hide someone and remain undisturbed by prying eyes and nosy neighbours.
The fact that this mortal male thought he even had a chance was a major source of amusement for the woman though if her husband could see her now there would be no doubt that Levi here would be little more than a memory a lot sooner than planned.
The pair bounced from the wall one or two times as they made their way along the corridor to her apartment door in near silence. “Here we are. Welcome to my my humble abode…” Said the spider to the fly as she kicked the door open and ushered her drunken companion inside.
<L E V I>
Oh they did, he thought to himself as he looked rather proud at his last statement as he followed his Velveteen Rabbit inside her little rabbit hole of a place. He followed her into the elevator. Swerving from side to side grabbing the wall for safe measure each time he could, but really he was going to be alright at this point in time. He wasn’t ready to fall down just yet, or even throw up - Levi was the kind of guy that would drink his fill, and then some and then throw it all back up in the alleyway just outside - usually have some teenage kids trying to get in on the alcohol with their fake id’s being all ‘ewwww’. Levi usually flipped them bird, because who wouldn’t in those circumstances. Right?
He followed her up to the floor where the apartment was and watched as she opened the door for them. Levi couldn’t get over how quiet it was, strange considering the populace were out drinking and some should if anything be coming back to their homes. He shrugged that **** off not sure what to think and stepped inside the doorway as he was ushered inside by the spider.
“It’s ‘etty.” He said nodding his head in approval. “‘ere’s the ‘ed?” His words were slurring more and more, the alcohol was affecting him pretty badly. Who knew moonshine had the ability to make him slur his words like this? It simply just made him want more. Considering he got rejected for his fix not so long ago.
“Who is undre’sin first?” He assumed the party was going to be in the bedroom. She brought alcohol for that he was sure. She wanted him. Levi was pretty damn sure, otherwise why would you invite someone back to your apartment?

<Velveteen> “ ‘ere’s the ‘ed?” She mimicked tilting her head, not being able to decipher that one so quickly when suddenly it hit her. “Ohhh...where’s the bed? Well it’s in the bedroom of course.” She ushered him towards the couches and headed towards the kitchen to fetch a couple of glasses.
“As for the undressin’, how about you slow your roll, Cowboy. Let’s have a drink, maybe some music?” She returned with the bottled and two shot glasses pinched between her fingers. “Let me guess….You like that hokey country **** right?” After getting to know her husband’s secret love of that country **** she just assumed it was a texan thing now. “Besides….Your *** aint gettin into my bed until you shower it. Nothing finer than the feel of silk sheets against clean , cool skin.” She offered him a rather inviting glance as she set the glasses down and began to fill each. “Though I am not sure you are even up to the challenge. Are you?”
The bottle was set on the table between them and she sunk down into the corner of the couch. “What do you say? Wanna party?” The remote had found its way from the table into her hand and within moments some choice tunes were playing thanks to her husband. She would not be in possession of such music otherwise. Once the tone was set she leaned forward and removed her leather jacket, exposing the pale flesh of her arms that contrasted highly against the black t-shirt that clung to the her upper torso. The garment was tossed casually over the back of the couch as she settled back once more and offered her guest a rather inviting smile.

Levi was watching her like a peeping tom looking through the window on a cold, winter's night - hugging right up to the pane. There was no doubt about it, he was liking what he was seeing when she started to peel off that jacket of hers to reveal the pristine flesh beneath the leather. Oh yes, he did like what he saw there. He was ushered to the sofa’s which was away from the bedroom, much to his displeasure he would have to do it all here, if this is what he was left with. On a sofa wasn’t too bad, she could get on top if she wanted to. It’s all gravy.
His Velveteen Rabbit came bouncing back with two glasses, he looked them over from where he was sat. They were so clean, he wasn’t used to clean. So this was different for him - even bar glasses were never really clean, they were given a spritz that was all it was.
“Sure sure.” He said to the woman with a nod of his head as he leaned against the plush of the seat watching the woman with wild curiosity. Why had she brought him back here if he didn’t want to go straight to the bedroom, was the alcohol and music foreplay to her? He simply had to know.
“I’ll showa’ if you get in there wi’h me.” There was a sly grin written upon his lips which seemed to open the doorway for it to be taken badly, he expected a slap, because honestly that’s what most women did when he offered something so dirty as that, but hey ho. What you gonna’ do. He could see the inviting smile within her features and seemed allured by it. He nodded his head and took the offered glass. “Yes, I’ll party.” He gave one sly smile of his own to boot.
His Velveteen Rabbit will be wanting him to explore her rabbit hole soon enough.
<Velveteen> It was becoming more and more obvious with every passing second that Levi’s focus had shifted from getting his drink on to wanting her between the sheets. At least the guy recognised priorities. So it would seem that that something were more important than drinking himself into a stupor. For the time being Velveteen simply smiled and lifted her glass in what would appear to be a toast to his accepting her invitation.
There was sense of familiarity surrounding this male and even though they had only just met there was something about him that she found herself drawn to. Should she even dare admit that she found this bum likable, amid his efforts to get between her thighs. She took a quiet moment to really look at him. The crystal blue of his eyes and the stubble that covered his chin jaw line meant nothing to her but the whole picture gave her the feeling that he reminded her of someone. She convinced herself that it was just the southern accent. It was not something you heard a lot og in Canada. The fact that his smile was eerily similar to that of her husband’s was yet another coincidence. The whole love em and leave em thing….well that was just a male thing in general right?
“And spoil the surprise? Nah.” Her lips twitched at the corners, fully aware that he was watching every movement. He liked what he was seeing and the promise of more certainly had his attention. When the **** was he gonna pass out already?

Levi did like surprises. He wriggled his tash from side to side in thought as he shook his head and brought the glass of… whatever alcohol was in the glass to his lips and took a swig, he didn’t really care what he was drinking as long as it was strong, and tasted good - just like his women.
Whilst Velveteen seemed to study him he slipped off his jacket and let it fall to the ground before picking up his glass again and drained it, before grinning - he was quite proud of himself. Much like a toddler would be once he knew 1,2,3 were in the correct order. “What surprise, your arm is showing - your showing ‘kin which means you are UP for it.” There was a slur, and then a hiccup as he stood up again and made his way around the sofa.
“I’m ‘onna shower.” Yes, yes he was. “Get in those sheets.. ‘naked” He hiccuped again, unaware that the photo of Savannah had fallen from his jacket and was on the floor next to Velveteen’s feet as he dragged his body into any room he could find looking for the bathroom. He stopped and turned around to face his Velveteen Rabbit who seemed to be staring at him. He threw her a smile. It was a special kind of smile, dimpled and cute - it was his trademark smile that seemed to make all the women lose their footing. He turned back around then and headed for the bathroom.
****, he needed a piss too.
<Velveteen> The vampire almost sighed with relief when he stood and declared his intentions. If he had’ve grown too insistent on starting the party early it could have gotten rather messy. Her relief however was short lived when he turned and shared with her a smile that she knew instantly, except it wasn’t this man who generally wore it. Luckily his head was elsewhere and he did not notice the horror on her face as he turned to stumble towards the bedroom.
“Noooo ******* waaaaay.” She whispered to herself. ‘I have to be imagining it. Guilt. Has to be. But I’m not guilty of anything.”
“Are you serious right now? Of course you are. Your husband would be ******* ropable if he saw you flirting the way you have been.” A little voice inside her mind spoke back.
“It’s a job. Pure and simple. Not my fault he is getting different signals. And ok. Now I am going mad.” Every word a whispered utterance heard by no one. “But ****. No.” Velveteen started to chuckle at the ridiculousness of her notion. It surely was just her imagination. Or the only other explanation was that that she was unable to even look at another guy without thinking about her husband. A...projection of sorts perhaps? It was time to put this guy out for the night and go home.
She leaned forward and set her untouched glass on the table only then noticing the photograph that laid face down at her feet. Faded writing on the back showed the date, 06.11.1978 and a neatly scrawled ‘I love you.’. She looked up as she leaned over to pick it up though didn’t until she was certain that her guest was not going to surprise her. Once she heard the water running she fetched the time worn photo and flipped it over getting a much better look at the subject. A hand came up to her mouth to cover the gasp that escaped it.
“Vanna.” She said to herself as the pieces started slamming into place. Savannah. Micah’s mother. Levi’s woman. Jesus ****. Was her father-in-law currently having sexy fantasies in the shower about her right now? The room seemed to spin a little as she tried to make sense of it. The odds of this happening are like a trillion to one and she had to go pick up the one bum in the world that was connected to Micah. She fell back into the softness of the couch, still holding the photo, a mixed expression of shock and amusement taking turns to stomp across her features. “I should buy a ******* lottery ticket. Before Micah kills me.”
Velveteen stood and scrawled out a note for Levi who was going to be extremely disappointed she imagined. Though with a little luck...she might even be back before he re -emerged from the bathroom.

He found the bathroom eventually. Only took him two doors, and two doors was already too many. He fell into the shower when he finally reached the right room, after stripping off and let the warm water fall over his dirty, and smelly body. He scrubbed himself down avoiding the chest hair as much as he could - they were his pride and joy in that sense.
He was getting tired, the hot water and the alcohol didn't seem to mix with him, seemed to make him much more tired that he thought he was. After a couple of moments he stumbled out of the shower holding onto the basin for support as he dragged out both feet. His naked feet touched the bath mat as his toes caressed the wool like he normally did when he got out the shower, it was a habit. He dried himself off with a white towel that he found on the rack
Once dry, he wrapped it around his waist - he didn’t bother to put his clothes back on, he wouldn’t need them because he was about to get lucky with his velveteen rabbit. He opened the door and made his way to the sofa where he had last seen her only to find she had vanished and there was a note on the table, saying she would be back soon - had to run out. He huffed a little and collapsed into the plush material and waited.
Despite his best efforts Levi fell asleep waiting for his rabbit to come back from her lottery ticket run. Damn her for playing hard to get.
