Third Degree ( Avi )

The redhead used her tome to take her to Lori's apartment. She didn't hear anyone in the apartment, so she went on her way to her desired location. The QZ. Prudence needed some zombie ears for the locate energy ritual, since she used the last in an open door ritual a couple weeks back.

The tall woman jumped through the known portal that would take her to the QZ without any real effort applied to get there. In a flash she was standing in the QZ, right outside. The woman looked behind her shoulder to see if she saw any of the slow remainders of what used to be a human at some point. No, they weren't much of a challenge to her anymore, but the ears were essential. Her eyes squinted to adjust to the darkness of the night and the distance she was looking around, but all she saw was a feral vampire a couple blocks down; one that was completely oblivious to her or anyone else around it. A mooncalf meandered through a door to the old supermarket and disappeared.

Prudence sighed, turned back around and decided to hit the flats. There were always zombies to find and quite easily too. Plus, once she was done, she could go back to her apartment and maybe meet up with that gorgeous man meat of hers.

Aviana had just come from the apartment of her so called sire. She had hoped not to run into anyone, yet it had turned into a meet and greet between Nathaniel and two others, that he apparently had just recently sired. Avi was still unsure what to make of her two siblings, and her distaste for Nathaniel had only intensified after such a meeting. The woman held close, her diary still, as she walked through the lobby area. Heading directly for the elevator, selecting the ground floor button and the doors could not have closed soon enough. Only then would the book be shoved into her overly large purse, it always carried more than she necessarily needed.

The young vampire was still a bit shaken up, appalled and hurt by the thought, with how Nathaniel had been in her apartment. Not only that, but he had gone through her things. Having found her diary that was never an item she left out in the open. The ride down didn’t last long, and she was ready to get back to her apartment. Maybe call someone about changing the locks and putting on extras. She could get a security camera? Or complain to the landlord about how easily it had been for a stranger to break into her place. Avi figured that wouldn’t do her any good anyways. The landlord would certainly claim such a thing to not be his problem, and simply advise she get renters insurance.

The moment the elevator doors opened, Avi froze. Face to face with the undead she had heard Eclipse speak of. Zombies? She didn’t want to believe it, and it was only another thing that she didn’t have the nerve to face at the moment. Wondering how she had missed sight of them on her way in earlier. Reaching she pushed a button on the elevator, pulling the gun from her purse and the bag fell to the floor. Shooting it at the zombie, just before the doors would close. A piece of the disgusting monster had fell off in the elevator, it looked like an ear. Avi had her back pressed against the wall and would slide down to sit upon the ground.

The very moment the doors opened again, Avi would grab her purse, shove the gun back inside and dart out. Her gaze lingered around, as she walked quickly out into the lobby, of what was the top floor. She didn’t want to go back down stairs right now, and definitely wasn’t heading back to Nathaniel’s apartment. Finding a set of stairs Avi would make her way up to where she could get to the roof of the building. She probably wasn’t supposed to, but went out anyways. The night air was nice, and she would walk all the way to the edge, standing near the barrier. Much of the city could be seen as she leaned against the edge.

A lighter and her diary would be taken from her purse, before the purse was set on the ground beside where she stood. Flipping through the books pages, a sigh would escape her, and she knew life was different now. Her former existence held little baring on what the future held. She could make a new start, or give up completely, and both were still a viable option. One thing was certain, it was time to let go of what life had been like before she had been turned. What she would do, would only be a symbol of such, to truly deal within thought would surly take time if she was willing to hold on for long enough.

Flipping to the first page, it would be torn out, and set on fire with the lighter. She held the paper for as long as she could, watching as the flames dissolved the words. Only just before it reached her fingers, she would let it go and watch as what was left of the paper extinguished and vanish within the night. Avi planned on doing this to every entry in the book, that had been written before she had been turned. Most of the pages would be torn and burned mindlessly, some she would linger and read. They were her personal confessions of her life, poems that she herself had written and some just quotes of famous poems that at the time, felt relatable.

There were quite a few pages to be burned, but half way through, a page would be torn and she would fold it up and shove it into her pocket. She knew she should have been rid of it, but that one was hard to let go of. Moving on the next page would be torn out, and she would lift the flame to light it. Avi allowed that one to burn a little too long, and it would burn the tips of her fingers.
“Ouch….” Muttered as she shook her hand and the last bit of the burning page would drift off. Instinctively she would press her fingers that stung from the flames to her lips.

Her bright, sad eyes would linger out over the city. Knowing that the sun would be out in a few short hours. Such a small flam stung her fingers…. Could she handle being burned away by the sun? Would it kill her or just cause a miserable pain that would only take a painful while to heal from? Avi didn’t know if she had it in her to go through such a thing but part of her was really considering it. What did she have now? Nothing… Her only human family member was gone, the love of her life and friends had betrayed her and now she was thrown into a life path she didn’t understand.

Prudence is blissfully unaware of anything that is going on, on the top floor of the flats. Why shouldn't she be? Next to nothing is ever up there. She's about to go inside, when a large beast comes running right out through a wall of the building's mainframe. The large animal grabs hold of Prudence by the gut, gouges into her skin and then tosses her away from it like she's some rag doll. Prudence goes flying back about half a block, her elbows kissing the concrete hard and scraping them even harder. She groans, shakes off the larger of the two wounds and pops up, ready to take on the large beast known as an Alpha Fadebeast.

But it's long gone and moving on to its next victim. The redhead groans and rubs at her left elbow with her right hand. While both were scraped up pretty good, this one stings the most. "Punk!" Prudence shouted at nothing, but hoped the thing was still nearby to hear her. Deep down she knew better, but Prudence wasn't at all pleased with being taken by surprise by the large thing.

She pulls out her cellphone and writes Nathaniel a text. ]Hey baby, you going to be stopping home. I need a little something that only you can provide. Was she hurting? Yes. Has she been in worse shape before? Yes. But the idea of being with Nathaniel for the night suddenly made Prudence no feel so bad about not being able to show that big, bad beast who was bigger and badder.

She puts the phone away and that is when she notices a glimmer of orange and yellow hues from the top of the roof. And that's not the only thing she sees. With the lighting, is a woman she doesn't know. Prudence would normally just go about her business, but she also sees the thing she was yelling at a few seconds ago. "Hey! Behind ya!" She shouts up, but being the building is around 20 stories, give or take, her voice probably doesn't carry up that high. So she does the next best thing to get the girl to move her ***. In a blur of speed, Prudence's gun is out and she's taking aim for the woman's head. Only, not at it, but close enough that the woman would hear the shot and maybe hear the bullet wiz by her head.

Aviana was oblivious to anything going on around her. Simply, she didn’t want to be connected to the reality of her surroundings for the moment. Everything that had occurred recently, especially tonight, was too much to process. To think, when coming to Harper Rock, Avi thought that life couldn’t get any more complicated. Maybe just to have assumed such a thing, only pressed fate to show her just how complex a situation could become. The more her thoughts pressed and pondered on such things, the more clouded her mind became. Setting aside the diary, her purse would be picked up and shifting through the contents, Avi was wishing her bag was a bit smaller. Eventually she would find what she was looking for, pulling it out only to sigh. The iPod held in hand was completely dead, it must have still been on when she had shoved it in her purse earlier. Could anything else go wrong this evening?

Instead of putting the small device away, she foolishly set it on the ledge, and returned her attention back to the diary. The next page destine for destruction, was a painful sight. It was written when her paranoid suspicions began. Why had she even kept these pages for so long anyways? At the time, to write was a release, as it still was. She should have destroyed those pages after writing them. They had been written after having moved in with her then fiancé. That was when things just didn’t add up and the man’s lies began to catch up with him and crumble. To think, she had been fooled for so long, right from the start. By the time Avi had discovered the truth it felt as if everyone knew already and yet none had said a thing. Afraid they would hurt her or they were the ones guilted by their own acts of betrayal, scared to admit they had deceived her.

Avi didn’t even look through the next couple of pages, but ripped them all out at once. Quickly lighting them to burn and releasing the ruined flamed pages into the night. The woman below was hardly something that would have caught her attention at first, but Avi did notice someone with red hair. Everything below looked small, and in the dark it was hard to tell what could be vampire, human, or possibly zombie. It was a sense behind her that would cause the young vampire to stumble forward a bit, bumping her iPod on the edge. She watched, as sadly the device fell off the building.
“Seriously?” She didn’t have much time to mourn the loss of her music device. Glancing back over her shoulder, Avi would catch sight of a monster that was even more horrifying than any nightmare. So scared, sounds seemed unable to escape her lips and her reflexed would cause her to jump slightly.

One would think the situation could not have gotten any worse, but it did. What she could only assume to have been a bullet, passed through the top of her left shoulder. Through where her deltoid and trapezius muscles met, hitting the acromioclavicular joint. Both the acromial end of her left clavicle and the acromion process of her left scapula would be fractured by the small piece of metal. At least it passed completely through and struck the creature. It had not been enough to do much damage to the beast, yet gave Avi enough time to react. Grabbing her diary it would be shoved into her purse before darting off in the direction of the stairs. She held little thought for her throbbing shoulder, blood began staining the left sleeve of her shirt.

She continued to run, but was by no means fast enough to keep away from the monster. Avi didn’t even have time to take in much of its horrifying appearance. Why was it after her? Better yet, who had shot her? Running around to hide behind a corner she would pull out her gun from her purse. Could she shoot it? The last shot didn’t seem to faze it much, and it was likely that Avi would miss. Instead she would throw the gun as hard as she could in the opposite direction of where she wanted to go. The creature stormed in that direction, but Avi didn’t linger long enough to see if it had fully worked. Entering the door that gave access to the roof, she began to descend down the stairs. Running not for the elevator but right for the stairs to continue down.

The realization of her failure, to deceive the creature, became clear as the monster seemed to appear before her, through some form of darkness. Coming at her to swipe with an arm that didn’t even look solid, but it made contact hard and flung her up a half flight of stairs into a wall. This was worse than any nightmare, ten times fold. She was going to die, even though part of her had considered such, this was hardly the way she wanted to go. Moving then she tried to get past the creature, only to find herself thrown down a flight of stairs this time. Getting to her feet, everything hurt and she was too scared to even scream. Afraid to get the attention of any other monsters that may have been lurking about.

"Well, shiiiiiiiiit!" Prudence saw that playing out a lot differently than it had been. Her eyes dropped down to the beast of a gun she was carrying and wondered if the scope was off. Or the trigger itself. Mordie would probably know best. She'd text him later to get down to the bottom of it.

"Hey! Loo-" Prudence looked up as she started to shout again, believing she would still see the woman there, but she wasn't. "Uhhh." Prudence blinked when she realized that there was another thing missing. The big, bad *** fadebeast. Maybe it moved on. Found a different target to go after.

Still, where did the other woman go? No vampire just disappeared like that. Even if Prudence managed to kill her, she didn't see any ash poof up in the sky. And if she were a killer, then Prudence suspected the woman would have fallen off the building. Maybe. Only one way to find out.

Not wanting to miss the girl and offer an apology, along with any help to heal, Prudence whizzed through the flats, to the emergency staircase and then smacked into something hard and large. That wasn't a wall. It was too squishy to be a wall. "Owww!"Prudence groaned as she bounced back from the beast that she hit, to the floor and had two, large sets of eyes focused on her now. "Well, ****." Prudence groaned as she scrambled to get her automatic gun that bounced back and away from her when she smacked into the large creature.

Aviana’s heart may have no longer beat, but surly if it had, it would currently have been racing from an adrenalin rush. Even if things within her body didn’t function the same, she still felt a rush of emotions and energy rushing though her beaten, wounded body. Her shoulder was killing her, as well an ankle that was twisted, among the many other parts of her that would surely be swollen and bruised. Avi was lost, unsure of what to do. Could she hold out for much longer against such a creature? That seemed unlikely, yet with a turn of fate, the hideous creature vanished. It was just gone within darkness and then no more. How? She didn’t even waist thought into pondering too much into it. Knowing one thing, that she had to get out of this place. Had to get home, to her apartment and possibly contemplate never leaving it again.

That wasn’t exactly an option though. Eventually she would have to venture out again…. To feed, and to work so she could pay her overwhelmingly amount of bills that always built up. Only the rich had the privilege of being crazy and hiding themselves away from the world. There was only one way now, turning she would limp as quickly down the stairs as she could. Her right arm gripping the hand rail, as she was too afraid to move her left. She would quickly halt though after descending a few flights of stairs. It would be the creature that would first catch her attention. How could such a thing ever be missed? It was unlike anything she had ever imagined, and just the sight of it, sent an uncomfortable shiver down her spine.

Only then would the woman be noticed… A woman with red hair…. Red hair and a gun… Was this who had shot her? A whole new wave of panic spread though Avi then. Was this woman after her? Avi didn’t understand what she could have done that would cause someone to try and kill her. Did there have to be a reason? Maybe some of this city just enjoyed such a thing, killing for sport. Aviana didn’t wait long to gain any response from the woman or the creature that could possibly be under her command. Turning on her good foot, gripping the other hand rail with her right arm, she quickly made hast up the stairs once again. Doing her best to focus through the pain and more at getting away from what was behind her and praying it didn’t follow.

The eleventh floor, was the next level, Avi would exit the stairs and head towards Nathaniel’s apartment. This was definitely not something she would have ever imagined herself doing. Earlier, part of her had sworn off ever stepping foot back in his place again. Yet now, Avi was thankful she had kept the key and not thrown it at her so called sire earlier. It seemed like forever, before she would finally reach the door. Every moment during her approach, Avi half expected the beast and the woman to come after her. Fumbling through her bag, she almost thought the key might have been lost at some point during the commotion of the evening.

A small smile of hope hinted her lips then, for a brief moment, as the key finally held in her right hand. Pressing the key towards the lock, it missed and dropped to the ground. Seriously? She couldn’t even open a door? Cursed…. She had to be cursed to be plagued with such doom. She would want to place the blame on this city. Yet her misfortunes began long before arriving in Harbor Rock. Maybe it was all some sort of punishment, for whatever she had done wrong in a past life, or something. Bending over, she cringed at the feel of pain that shot through her. Snatching up the key, she gave another attempt at pressing it into the lock but it didn’t even fit. It didn’t fit? Having a closer look, Avi realized the key was the one to her own apartment.

Really? Was this all some sort of cosmic joke?! Pressing the key into the pocket of her jeans, Avi fumbled through her purse once again. Her gaze couldn’t help but continue to glance over her shoulder, expecting at any moment the existing dangers would appear once again. It was frustrating to not have found the key right away and after only seconds, she would begin to bang on the door with her right hand. Even yelling, caring not for who might hear her now.
“Please let me in!!!” Nothing, surly everyone was gone by now, as the door never opened, for her to find a place of safety. So many Things raced through her mind, many words that she mentally beat herself with. Like Why didn’t I just go home right away? It was too late now… She gave up banging on the door and began going through her purse again. Avi froze…. She heard something… What could she do? There was no possible way she could ever outrun someone in her condition. The apartment had been her best bet.

The other girl didn't stick around, which, Prudence didn't blame her. She often wondered if she was crazy or insane. Prudence usually went head first in to something without giving it much thought. She was a thrill seeker to an exponential rate, which, wasn't exactly healthy, as she found out all through childhood with the multiple broken bones she retained, but now that the limits didn't exist because she was a vampire, Prudence didn't really care or give things much thought. If she died, she would be back and go right back to kicking *** and taking names later.

But not everyone was like Prudence. Most people knew that when a situation was bad-to get the **** out of dodge. This was probably a flaw of hers. She didn't know when to quit, until it was way too late. So she scrambled to get out of the way of the large monster as it came barreling at her, but she just wasn't fast enough, or didn't have enough space in the tight quarters. Inky tendrils of legs lashed out at her and gashed Prudence across the side of her face, the other connected somewhere near her original wound in the abdomen area. The redhead growled as she rolled away, soaking off the damage from the second gut wound from the fadebeast tonight. "Come on, *****!" She seethed out as Prudence pushed up off the ground to see-wall. The thing did it's damage and moved on to another victim. If Prudence had some of her ritual crap on her, she would have tracked the ***** down, but since she didn't-the thing would live to see another night. Unless Mordie came across it. Or Phoenix. Those two seemed to be hitting the alpha fadebeasts hard and heavy these nights.

Prudence moved gingerly to her gun, glad the thing didn't manage to break her Scarlett, and then just as slowly moved down the stairs. She had a place in the flats, but she was going to need help with the gash on her cheek. Prudence could only sew what she could see. She hobbled down each step, big, fat drops of blood plopping on the ground with each bounce she unintentionally took, but had to, to get down the steps. She yanked the door open, as if it were the heaviest thing in the world ever, but it was only because of the substantial wounds the woman had.

And that's when Pru saw the other woman again. At her boyfriend's door. Even though the redhead was hurting, Prudence was at the door in a blink. "You're at the wrong door." Prudence said, but really wanted to say, 'who the **** are you?' And her face probably showed it too as she got out the key to his flat and waited.

The other woman had would simply show up out of nowhere. Avi had heard a sound, and in just a spit second, the woman appeared before her. A new rush came over the young vampire, and surly a look of fear and terror hung with in the newly turns gaze. Who was this woman?! Aviana would not do so intentionally, but a thought she had spoken within to herself might have been picked up by the other woman.- Why is she doing this to me? - What terrible things had Avi done in the past were catching up on her? She could think of nothing, but she knew what her grandmother would have told her. It was the same thing she had always told Avi. That’s something special was to come for her in the future. Something so great, that when the bad things happen now, it was just to balance everything out in life. Her grandmother just tried to raise her granddaughter to view the world optimistically.

Avi never had trouble with it before, though with the death of her grandmother, followed by what had happened with her ex, every day was now a struggle to keep positive. The woman before her spoke then, and it was about the apartment. The wrong apartment? Just with the remark, Avi could not help but to cast her eyes over at the door. Reading over the numbers, and that was definitely the place she had come from earlier. The same empty apartment owned by the vampire that had turned her. Some safe place this was? Avi had not even made it out of the building before being pressed with life threatening danger. She turned her eyes back quickly to the woman. Seeing that she had what looked to be a key.

Was that a key to Nathaniel’s apartment? How many people had a key to that empty place anyways? Perhaps it was a mix of things that fueled a paranoia that was setting in. The diary within her bag felt heavy, recalling only hours ago how Nathaniel had thrown it to her in that very apartment near. He had broken into her home and not only read her diary but took it. The humiliation of that, paired with how he had given it back to her amongst others, still lingered fresh. She felt it had been some sort of test to prove something and teach her a lesson of how unsafe she was from this new world. Was this another test?

Her eyes would brighten with a new fear overcome by anger.
“You shot me?” She would take a painful step back from the woman. Curious then of that hideous creature. Was it her pet or something? Judging by the way the other woman looked, maybe not but that was still not enough to stop Aviana’s hurt paranoid emotions. Things shifted though, from thinking of the situation as a test but to something different. The words that left her then, would have been muttered right after her you shot me remark. Though the ton of her voice trailed off, as if Avi was asking herself the question aloud. “Did he send you after me?”

He didn’t want her around, so was going the distance to be sure she never wanted to come around this place. Aviana didn’t really want to have anything to do with him anyways, he could have just said he wanted nothing to do with her. There was no reason to send someone to kill her! She burned with a new found hate for the man. How sick and cruel to turn someone who never wanted this sort of life. Then to drop some sort of lie upon her, while meeting with them all only hours ago. He had claimed them to be some sort of family. Avaian wanted to laugh about that now, what a joke. Had he sent people after the others as well? She had a feeling they were safe, she was probably the only one, he was getting rid of a mistake.

“I must have the wrong door…” She knew it probably wouldn’t work, but Avi was in no mood to press a confrontation with any one. Maybe the woman would still kill her, maybe not. Possibly the message had been made clear. Aviana had no desire to step foot in this building ever again. Turning then, her hand bag felt light. Regretting having thrown her gun up on the roof top. As she had only then been reminded of the zombies that awaited down stairs. She hated this city…. But it had her and she was stuck.

She spoke within thought, angry emotions that may have drifted from her. It was possible the other woman might had caught them, but perhaps not. Though the young telepath didn’t quite understand her powers yet, nor what she might be capable of. - Why did he even turn me? It was all a cruel joke…. A sick cruel joke. Where is the fun in killing someone, when you can just make life miserable? I don’t care if he is the one that sired me, I’m done with Nathaniel…. There has to be more vampires in this city, chances are at least one of them is kind enough. I don’t need Nathanael…. I can find someone else who can answer some of the questions I have. -

All of that was thought as she made way to the elevator. It hurt to move, but she did so the best that she could. Who knew if she would even make it? Maybe the woman would finally finish her, but Avi really wanted to make it. She wanted to be back at her place, where she could tend to her wounds. Then everything would be getting packed up. She figured if he wanted, he could find her still but she had no desire to stay in a place where she knew he had been inside. She would definitely be looking for a new apartment.
