Black Thursday (Group 19)

It was the perfect night to go to the Mall. There was a small snowstorm expected. Snowstorms tended to keep the teenage mall rats at bay. Not because the mall rats were afraid of the weather, no, but rather because the mall rats parents, didn't want them wrecking their cars. So Day found himself at the mall, scoping out the businesses and doing some reconnoitering. He was almost ready to take the plunge and start his own business. He had been toying with the idea for a while now, but he didn't like jumping into anything without doing some research first.

Therefore, for the last few weeks, Day had been haunting the mall, watching the crowd, seeing who were the ones that spent money, and what did they spend it on. He had come to the conclusion, that single women between 25 and 30, and older women 45 and 60, spent money on themselves. The age group of 30 and 45 spent money on their children, and they were bargain hunters. But those that spent on themselves.. they did not hunt for bargains. You could two identical items in front of them, label one with a cutesy hip tagline and double the price and nine out of ten times, they would go for the more expensive one.

Having hidden in the mall as it was locked up for the night, Day wanted to get a better idea of the stores that he he had keyed in on as financially stable, without anyone pointing out the 6’4” Black man scoping the joint. He had stopped and taken a seat at one of the many benches located in the promenade of the mall, as he made notes in notepad he carried with him. He was engrossed in recording his thoughts when the earthquake struck. At first, he thought someone had run a carriage or buggy into the bench, but the mall was closed, so that couldn't be. His thoughts and reactions were happening at lightning speed, and it was as he looked up he realized something more was happening. It was only due to his vamperic reactions he was able to dodge the chandelier over him as it crashed. Flying shards of splintered glass, impaled one side of his face; as the building shook and rumbled.

Weather. If there was anything better than a violent summer storm then it was the punch of a blistering winter storm slamming into everything in its path. Extreme weather. It was not to be controlled, redirected or made to wait until everyone was ready. This night found the statuesque blonde outside. The snow that was supposed to fall lightly started kicking up its strength sending more than the expected to blanket Harper Rock and the surrounding areas. By the time Dulce reached the mall she was covered in what missed the ground and found her on her way to the doors of the mall in Gullsborough.

Dulce stepped inside and shook off the unwanted chill of what fell in a pile at her feet. She tapped each foot lightly on the floor mat that was there for such a purpose. She checked her watch. Not that she cared really what time it was but it was getting late and the weather was appearing to have a mind all its own. The sounds from a nearby television in a storefront had weather reports canceling out previous warnings and telling the public to get inside. Humans took this seriously. Voices in the various shops and kiosks rattled on about the dangers of leaving late into cell phones while their hands quickly closed shop doors in a panic. It was like the snow was going to never end and that was all they had to fear was what was falling from the sky. She was amused to say the least.

What this meant was there would soon be quiet as the restaurant co-owner moved in a long but fast stride to get what she had came out for to begin with. She shook her head and flipped her hair over her right shoulder. The click of her impractical six inch Gaultier leather boots echoed as she made her way past the screen that now had scrolling banners at the bottom of the screen listing what areas were giving in and shutting down due to weather. She would be home in the blink of a human eye once she got in and out of the printers shop. The new order of menus had to be picked up that had been printed. She knew Sada would be lost in the weather if she resorted to asking her to take on the task. The woman was no taller than the snow drifts she had just cleared.

Dulce arrived to the shop doors just as the lights went out. Her fingers curled and tried to pull at the door that had a sign that swung back and forth with her attempt to get the shopkeepers attention. ‘Sorry we are closed’ danced in front of her icy blues. Seriously? She walked through the snow to see this? This was really inconvenient. Her lips bunched up and drifted a little to the side in quiet contemplation. She looked around. It was dead quiet and the glow of the other shops all quickly followed suit in shutting off.

The allurist’s long fingers were about to curl around the handle of the door when the floor she was standing on started to rumble. Not just a small rumble. This was enough force that it had her clicking six foot even frame across the mall floor towards the promenade area. There she spotted a man who appeared to be sitting as if he was not the least bit bothered. Just as she was about to call for his attention she could hear a rattling above. She barely had enough time to look up and find the massive chandelier come crashing down in the massive open space between them. The floor shuddered beneath her while the glass fixture shot its shards in every direction. She went flat to the floor as the pieces ricocheted around her piercing the cement planters that held various assortments of vines, flowers and shrubs.

It was a strange thing for him to wrap his head around, but Jonah was considering buying a mall. In theory, it would be a very different venture from both of his previous ones and would help "diversify his portfolio in the event of unfortunate circumstances." At least, that's what all the online business sites talked about. He doubted that they meant to buy a mall but it seemed like as good an idea as any.

The promise of a fair amount of money had led one of the current managers to meet him at the location after hours (why a mall in this city closed ever at all was beyond him) and the initial discussion took place in the manager's office which went on for far longer than Jonah considered necessary. As the conversation continued, he became more and more convinced that this particular endeavor was too far beyond his comfort zone and he was more than likely going to withdraw his offer bu for the sake of potential business contacts and to make sure that the manager's bosses couldn't say the man hadn't done his job, he mentally prepared himself to spend a few more hours going through this masquerade.

As they exited the office and headed towards the entrance to begin the "tour" (as if Jonah had not walked through the halls fo the mall a number of times already) the ground began to shift under their feet. The man stumbled and fell and the big killer just barely managed to retain his balance. Lights flickered and suddenly the floor pitched more violently and before he knew what was going on, he was on the ground with sparks flying above him. The two men had been outside some retro chic clothing outfitter and a giant neon sign with the business name slipped loose from the bolts and cables that held it against the wall.

The manager lay motionless beside him and he tried to quickly jerk him out of the way but with the floor rolling wildly, he failed and the sign crushed both the human. Panting, smoke poured from his mouth uncontrollably for a moment as he jerked and yanked until bones and tendons finally gave away completely and he was left laying on the tiled floor with only one arm.

The wind was howling, slapping wisps of snow white hair against her face. This was getting to be ridiculous. Yeah the weather had called for a bit of a storm, but she hadn't thought it was going to get this bad. It just started not long ago and it seemed to be picking up more and more by the moment. Branches were being ripped from trees by the force of the wind, scattering them across the streets. This was not a night to be out roaming. Luckily there was a building nearby...the mall, a place she frequented often. It was real late and the building was already mostly locked up, however she had some semi decent lock picking skills. Noelle quickly worked her way into the building, finding shelter from the storm.

The place was dark, only illuminated by a few security lights here or there and a few neon store front signs. The TVs were also still running. Interesting. Guess places like this never did fully shut down. Fingers combed through her hair, trying to at least get it out of her face. She would tome home as soon as she could feel her hands again. In the mean time, might as well take a little walk around, see the mall at these hours. It was late...just a couple more hours or so til sunrise. She didn't expect to see anyone here, other than the possibility of a mall cop.

Noelle took care, looking for security cameras, watching for the guards, as she made her way down the large hall. None had been seen so far. However, after turning a corner, Noelle spotted one just on the opposite side. Quietly, she backtracked just slightly and turned down another hall. Violet eyes fell on a TV, watching the news for a moment. The newscaster was going on about how the storm was worse than what was predicted. Well no ****.

Her brow furrowed a moment as she started to feel a slight rumble. That slight rumble became something more. The floor was shaking, to the point that she tumbled to the floor, having loss all balance. The TV was next, wobbling on its mount. Screws broke loose and the 55in. came catapulting down towards her. Luckily for vampire reflexes, Noelle was able to quickly spring out of the way...almost. It smashed down against her foot, snapping her ankle. Decorations and signs were falling to the floor all around her. She had to get out of there. But her purse was nowhere to be seen among the debris. When she fell, she must have dropped it, with her tome inside. She had already used up most of the energy within her towards powers earlier in the evening. She was stuck for the time being.

"--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--"

Day: Day picked himself up off the floor and wiped his face with the back of his hand. It came away bloody, but he could tell it was superficial at best, It would be healed in a matter of hours. What was of immediate interest was, what had just happened? Has something exploded? A bomb? A plane crash? The answer of ‘earthquake’ had not even registered as a possibility. He had grown up in this area of Canada. He could not remember anyone ever, remotely, talking about having experienced an earthquake anywhere close to here. So what had just happened? It was as he brushed himself off, that he caught movement in the periphery of his vision. Seeing a blond on the floor, he crossed over and offered her a hand.

Dulce Periculum: Dulce could not believe what was going on. Nothing like this had happened before. Small quakes created by those that had the power to shake a very small isolated area was entirely different. This was major and widespread. It had to be. Her cold pale fingers fingers scraped their tips against the glass beneath them as if a part of the flat surface beneath them may actually sprout some handles or a source of leverage she could grasp onto. She felt the sharp edges bite into the first layer of her skin. Each line closed rather quickly as she lifted her hands up while rising to rest on the back of her heels. The man she spotted moved and now her icy blues tracked him as he approached her. She rubbed her hands together and that is when she looked down and found a shard of glass in her right side.

Before the man could reach her she knew she needed to get rid of the object before anyone noticed. Her hand curled around the sharp edges and growled low as she yanked it out. Her clothing was instantly a dirty shade of red as the material over the wound absorbed the blood. It would be fine given time. For the moment she wrapped her jacket tight and buttoned the front. By the time the man arrived she was smiling as if nothing happened and reached out graciously for the hand offered. "You okay?" She was good at changing the focus back to his injury.

Day: Day took her hand and helped her steady herself, as she got to her feet. She was tall, almost as tall as he was. Without releasing her hand he leaned back and gave her and appraising smile, “Nice boots.” He shrugged at her question, “Tis a mere flesh wound.” It was his attempt at levity despite the seriousness of the situation. “Mind how you go..” There was debris and broken glass that littered the floor, and her boots were not made for navigating that sort of terrain. As much as he would have enjoyed flirting some more, there was a bigger issue at play and he reluctantly let her hand go.

“Any idea what was?” He was ready to discount the bomb or explosion, there had been no explosive sound. Even a plane crashing would have produced an explosion of sound at the very least. But this.. this had been silent and massively strong. Even as he uttered the words, he was still in disbelief, “Earthquake?” His question was drowned as a loud crack happened at the water fountain near them and spray of water started shooting out from behind fountain. Day had moved instinctively to shield the woman, but it wasn’t necessary. He twitched. “We should move.. get somewhere safer.. there are bound to be after shocks.

Dulce Periculum: Dulce looked at the wound a bit closer and realized the man had no more issue with healing than she did. She felt a sense of relief. Her hand was relaxed as she found he was a bit taller than her. With both feet on the ground she felt a little better even as the small after shocks continued to rumble beneath them. Her eyes lifted as she held his gaze. His cool hand fell slowly from her own and she looked down at the boots as he commented. Of course they were nice. She lived in them. It was sinful the way the leather felt as it met the back of her thighs. She could feel the adjustments made inside as they were pointed out and quickly sent a telepathic message to Hantu, Chaindog, Tomi and Sada. -Hope you are indoors. Don't go outside. I am fine. At the mall. Not sure how bad it is yet-.

Dulce Periculum: A small pop and water shooting out towards them had her looking at the man's back before she could close her eyes . She expected to be drenched. Instead she felt the spray miss her and the man get the majority of it. "I agree." She looked up and wondered how much it would hurt if the roof came down on them. This was not something she wanted to find out. She patted her pocket and of course her cell was back in the drawer of her desk. Coverage would likely suck anyways. What tower would be standing right now?

Day: Day took his jacket off and shook it free of water, “I suggest someplace in the open.. or someplace structurally sound. An area with a support beam.” He shrugged the jacket back on. “How well do you know this place? I can’t say I do. But I am thinking if it’s anything like other malls, there are smaller rooms and usually a hallway in behind the stores.” He subsided into silence, and pointed toward the exit sign that led to a hallway. “Over there.” Upon reaching the door, he pulled it open, only to see that one wall had caved into the hallway. Ruefully he glanced at her, “That is obviously not a support wall. I suggest we move on.. that way..” He pointed further along the concourse. “Agreed?”

Dulce Periculum: Dulce received no reply back. She was concerned but knew that all hopefully would be doing the same thing. Watching their surroundings and waiting until it was safe to move. Earthquake in Canada. She was stunned. She had never been in one. Now she could say she had as she looked around. As he shook out his jacket she peeked into her own and found the wound making a slow improvement. The blood that had dripped over her hip and down her leg was beginning to dry. Her black leather boots had seen better. As soon he mentioned support beams her mind was nearly in sync with his. A caved wall was not promising. "Only one way to find out." She looked back and found a blonde female moving. Her brow lifted as she stopped and reached for the man's forearm. "Wait I know her." that is when it registered that she didn't have his name. "My name is Dulce." She said her name a bit slow so he would catch it. "You would be?"

Day: “Dayshaun Vassey, folks call me ‘Day’. Nice to meet you Dulce.” He looked the direction she had, and he too, now saw the female. “Are you alright?” He called to the Blond that was on the ground, while striding toward her. He looked back at Dulce, as he quickened his pace, the Blond wasn’t moving the way he expected someone unhurt would move. As he got closer to the Blond he could tell she was as a vampire, and was relieved. It would have been hard as hell to explain why the lacerations he had on his face were .. gone mere hours later. At least this would not be an issue now. Since Dulce said she knew the girl, he would let her do the talking. He looked her over, as Dulce moved in closer. Day took a protective stance, just in case. It was while he was surveying the their surroundings, his gaze locked on a figure laying prone on the floor. “Dulce.” He said her name and pointed to the clothing store, where the figure was laying. “She good to move?”

Dulce Periculum: Dulce eyed Noelle as she followed Day. She knew the woman from events such as weddings, through Mortll and the fact they lived only a couple houses apart in Cedar Court. "Noelle?" Her eyes hoped that the woman despite the Tytonidae hunts and what not would be pleasant enough given that the world around them was splintering apart. If not. Well, it was not like their surroundings could be any more damaged than it was currently if they had words. She waited for a response. She whispered back to Day quickly. "We live in the same neighborhood. Have been to weddings and such. " She nodded. The rest likely would be of no interest to the man.

The pain was excruciating for a few moments as Jonah lay panting but eventually the pain eased as the flesh knit itself back together. He would have a stump for awhile but he'd dealt with that before. The floor still felt unsteady but he was unsure if that was due to more earth quake or the floor underneath him trying to settle. Either way, he knew he didn't want to stay in here any longer than he had to.

When he finally managed to get to his feet, he realized that he could hear voices from fairly nearby. One that he didn't recognize and one that seemed familiar. Following them, he figured that it would be better to travel in a group rather than alone, especially in his...compromised position.

As he drew closer, he called out, "Everybody alright?" When he was finally in the lightly illuminated area where the voices were his arm was fully healed though the side of his shirt was still blood soaked. If pressed, he figured he could say it was old wound but he doubted if anyone would really question him in the midst of all this chaos.

Noelle leaned against a nearby wall to check ou ther ankle real fast. She cringed as she saw the shape it was in. Black and blue and swollen like a balloon. It was definitely broken. While it wouldn't take long to heal, maybe an hour or so to get back to completely normal, it was most certainly get in the way of an easy escape. She was hoping to be able to power through it and not waste any unneeded energy on healing it up faster.

Hearing a couple voices in the distance, she glanced up to see two people coming towards her. One she recognized as her neighbor and in her mind somewhat of a frirend. Dulce had helped her out on a number of instances. Noelle tried to take a step. It hurt like a *****, but she managed. Sighing with relief that she was able to at least somewhat walk, she hobbled towards the pair. "I'm fine, I'm fine. Don't worry about it. It's a minor wound. Probably just twisted it or something." She didn't know this man with Dulce, so wouldn't let onto the actuality of the wound, just in case there were questions about quick recovery.

Her arms lifted in a sort of 'what the ****' gesture. "What the hell is going on here? Was that an earthquake?" She had never experienced an earthquake before. However she had been used to the snow and wind storms, having come from Michigan. Bad weather was nothing to her, but this was a whole new territory for her. "We're not alone here. I saw a security guard on my way in earlier." Just then, she heard another's voice. **** was that him? She turned to see and was relieved that it wasn't. Noelle recognized the man, but she wasn't sure if she had actually ever met him, but she knew he was a vampire. Other than that, nothing. Glancing back towards the man with Dulce, she offered an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry. I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Noelle. You are?"

Dulce was pleased despite the chaotic sounds that pounded at the less than reliable walls of the mall that now encased them. Noelle was receptive to her presence. The truth was she liked the woman despite business. She pointed out the house next to hers that was up for sale in Cedar Court and pretty much asked her to buy it. The woman was young in appearance but she had tenacity that went beyond her years. More than most did anyways. Noelle had the look of innocence to her but beneath she was a whole other package entirely. Dulce washed her icy blue gaze over the woman in appreciation.

There were issues too. Noelle ran with Ripper. It didn't always make sense to Dulce. The female protected that man like he was the last specimen on the planet no matter what he was up to. Dulce admired that even if she didn't say it. A partner was to be worth the last drop of blood you had to offer and even then you fought until the darkness took claim of you. It was how she saw things with Hantu. Noelle did that and then some as she should. Ripper hopefully had an idea on just what he had in Noelle. Dulce hated to see loyalty go to waste. She smiled when her eyes found the woman’s own.

“Need a lift?” Dulce stepped closer while ignoring the dull ache at her side. The tall female body beneath the black leather duster was doing what it was supposed to. Healing layer by layer. The oblique muscle had took the time that had passed to fuse back together. More work was still needing to be done and in the next few hours that passed it would be good as new. “It is cool.” She glanced to the man she now knew as ‘Day’ while he faded briefly from their view. “He is going to check a few things out and see what we have to work with. It shouldn’t take him too long.”

A voice had lifted and caught Dulce’s attention. She knew this one fairly well and immediately was at ease. The towering body became visible. He wore the sign of an impressive wound in the shadow of blood that settled into the material of his shirt. Jonah. She raised a brow. Nothing more would form in expression over her face to give away her concern. He was Tytonidae and would get anything he would need if she could provide it. However, on closer inspection as he came forth he was appearing to be recovering well from whatever gave him issue recently.

“Glad to see you are safe as can be expected.” Dulce would not reveal his name as it was his own to offer up or not in the presence of others. “I was about to offer this young lady a lift. Saver her some energy till she sorts herself out. One other we have found in here is currently taking a walk through to see what we have to get by until the storm passes.”

The small group was only a short distance away but it still took a number of moments before he was upon them. Piles of debris would have been difficult to traverse under normal circumstances but shy an arm for balance, he struggled a bit. When Dulce acknowledged him, he nodded at her and smiled slightly.

"Makes me feel better knowing you're here." He cracked his back and looked around, surveying the damage and trying to see if there was any obviously better spot to be. "You heard from anyone? My phone's in the wrong pocket," he grasped at the side of his body that was currently missing a limb, "Not sure if anyone is expecting a check in."

He turned to the other woman who he didn't recognize immediately. "Did you see anything useful over there?" He pointed over her head at where he thought he had seen her walking from. "Nothing we can use back there I'm afraid," in reference to the destruction he had just come out of.
