--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--
Jonah: Jonah had let the rest of the staff go home for the evening. Many of them were students at the university and had projects to prepare for as the end of the semester grew closer so there were no complaints as to the loss of hours. When he was alone, he texted the new Vedarian that he had purchased. *I'm at the Book Nook on the second floor of the 8th Dimension Mall if you could stop by for your first night.*
Onyx: Onyx had been spending most of time getting to know the city a little bit better. She saw everything in a new light now that she was what she was. She was relieved that would not have to feed from humans all the time. She was at the attic, enjoying a blood pack, when her phone went off. It was from the man who had won her the other night at the auction. She quickly sent him a reply *I will be there shortly.* She then set off to the 8th Dimension Mall.
Jonah: His phone buzzed and after reading the message, he sat it aside and waited for the woman to arrive. He had little planned for this initial meeting, intending it to primarily be about learning abou his new family member and answering any questions that she might have, though he was sure that she had already had that offer made numerous times.
Onyx: It did not take her too long to get to the mall and not long after that to find the Book Nook thanks to the maps that were around the mall to help those that were directionally challenged. She entered the bookstore and found her way to the stairs. At the top she looked around for the man that had won her and gave a smile when she saw him. “Hey.” She said “I hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long.”
Jonah: Jonah was stocking books when she came in and startled him slightly but he returned the smile as he wiped his hands on his jeans and offered one to her. "Not at all, it's nice to meet you finally."
Onyx: She shook the man’s hand “It is nice to meet you too. There are a lot of people in this family.” She let out a giggle. She had only really gotten to meet four members so far and one of them was her sire.
Jonah: "It's a nice change from what it once was." It wasn't too long that the only Vedarians that were active were himself and Keara and while those days were nice, he much preferred the recent explosion in activity among the line.
Onyx: “I will say it was kind of crazy when I first learned what Vampires where but then it was nice to know that I had others that could help me out.” Everyone was nice and had been super helpful with her. It was a big change to go through and loved that others were so eager and willing to help her through all the new changes that were going on.
Jonah: "So it's been a pretty smooth transition so far?"
Onyx: She shrugged “For the most part, yeah. Though it is still hard to get use to my senses over reacting at something.” The world had seemed to explode when she was turned.
Jonah: "It'll get easier with time. Do you have any questions for me? Not sure what all you know or don't."
Onyx: She thought for a moment and something quickly came to mind as she felt it move under her skin. “Well there is something that happened the other day and it seems to be getting worse but i don’t know if it is normal or not.” She pulled up her jacket sleeve and reviled the small bump on her arm. It looked as though something was just under the skin and after a moment it moved.
Jonah: He canted his head to the side as she started to roll up her sleeve and he frowned at the bump. Starting to touch it, he paused when it moved. He looked up at her and asked, "May I?"
Onyx: She nodded. “Be my guest.” She wanted to know what it was and the sooner the better. He looked like he might know and if he didn’t she was sure he would know someone who does.
Jonah: His nail sharpened and he pressed it in to the skin until there was a hole large enough for whatever that was in her to come out.
Onyx: She clenched her teeth together as he cut into her skin. It did not take long for the small maggot like insect to wiggle its out and onto her arm. She had to stop herself from gaging “Oh my god that gross.”
Jonah: The bug flopped out of her and on to the ground and he quickly smashed it with his boot. "That's...unfortunate."
Onyx: She looked at him for a moment “Unfortunate?” She was still kind of in shock that there was a bug inside her and then in horror as she knew that was not the only one. “So that’s not a normal thing?”
Jonah: Jonah thought about the man he met that named the various creature that lived inside of him. "It's...not unusual but it doesn't happen to all of us, no."
Onyx: “Great.” She rubbed her her arm where the thing had fallen out of. “At least I’m not the only one i guess.”
Jonah: "It could be worse," he tried to offer helpfully
Onyx: She looked at him quizzically “And how is that?”
Jonah: "You ever see the movie nosferatu? I had to go around for close to a year looking like that."
Onyx: The woman Chuckled a bit “I love that movie. How did it change?”
Jonah: "Just...figured out how to turn it off one day."
Onyx: "So you can turn it on and off?"
Jonah: He nodded. "Helps to...be that when I'm hunting."
Onyx: "How does it help with hunting? Wouldn't it make it harder?"
Jonah: "Depends on the kind of hunting that you're doing. If you can make your enemy fear you, they're easier to beat."
Onyx: She laughed "Well unless I can make these little guys come out more I don't see many people fearing me anytime soon."
Jonah: "You might be surprised." He looked her over carefully for a moment. "My childe is...was a necromancer. They can be pretty fierce."
Onyx: "You have a childer?"
Jonah: "I did. She's gone though."
Onyx: She frowed a little "Mind if I ask what happened to her?"
Jonah: "I'm not sure myself. We grew apart because of decisions I made and while I was working on fixing it she...drifted away." He chewed on his lip for a moment. "This life is hard, especially those from the Vedarian blood."
Onyx: "Why is it so hard for us?" She had not yet run inot anything she would deem hard
Jonah: "It's in our blood. It doesn't seem like it now but when I was turned..the sewers and quarantine zone were littered with half dead Vedarians, ones who couldn't survive the change."
Jonah: "Some did nothing but stare in to the distance. Some were little more than animals."
Onyx: "Thank god that didn't happen to me." She laughed to try and lighten up the mood a bit.
Jonah: He smiled. "It's definitely gotten a lot better. Anyway, what do you know about this bookstore?" He had posted a bit about it in the family board but it had been awhile and wasn't sure how much she actually knew.
Onyx: “Not much really.” She was having a hard time getting use to using the family board
Jonah: "It's a...front. Sort of. I sell books but...I'm trying to research and find out more about our history." He turned and gestured for her to follow him to the back room that was his office where manuscripts were scattered about.
Onyx: She looked around at the manuscripts all around and whistled “So is this just the family history or like the history of vampires as a whole?”
Jonah: "As a whole. I assume you know about the holocaust?"
Onyx: She shook her head no “Sorry but no.” She felt like the new kid in a high school that taught at a higher level than she was use to. There were so many new things to learn.
Jonah: He sat down on one side of the table and gestured for her to do the same. "Before about 3 years ago, vampires were extinct for 200 years, systematically hunted down and exterminated by humans."
Onyx: She sat down as listened to him “If we were exterminated then how are we,” she gestured to the two of them “here right now?”
Jonah: “You know about the quarantine zone?”
Onyx: She nodded “Yeah I spend a lot of time there now. All the zombies are fun to kill.”
Jonah: "Ever noticed how the bodies...reanimate?"
Onyx: “I always thought that’s just what zombies did. Is it something else?”
Jonah: "Well, yes, but there's still a reason. The barrier between this world and the shadow realm is thinner here. That barrier...tore 3 years ago, allowing the vampires that die within the city to cross back over and return to life, just like the zombies."
