One change in gun, can't kill anything

So..I was in the cats with Victor last night trying to get him to level 10 and had about 95% EXP. That last 5% was the hardest ever once he ran out of ammo with his custom rapid fire rifle.

Custom rapid fire
Acc: 12
Pow: 11
Qua: 9

7.62x39mm

Well when I switched over to my next best gun stat wise, I couldn't kill anything.

Veto rifle
Acc: 11
Pow: 12
Qua: 9

.308

I didn't think the stats were that different. Anyone have any ideas as to why this might have happened?

Depending on his firearms stats, which I will assume is pretty low, the rapid fire makes up for lack of skill by shooting alot of bullets at the target. A rifle would require aiming and shooting a single bullet at a time.

Thats my guess

I dump most of his skill points into Firearms. It's low and I know I need to restat him(that'll happen soon) but he just reached Firearms 10 today. It'll be so much higher than that once I restat.

But he was hitting just fine with the other gun. He literally couldn't hit anything when he switched over. He's all about his guns. I just don't get it.

Some guns just suck, too! Try a few different ones, to test my theory.

There are a lot of different factors that go into determining the outcome of a battle - like a character's battle settings, the NPCs you are atttacking, the powers your character is using, etc. Did you do anything else different other than change the weapon you have equipped?

Because honestly, there probably shouldn't be that huge of a difference. Could it have been a string of bad luck? I find that happens sometimes. You go a day where your character can kill the same NPCs consistently, then the next they just. Can't. :))

I'd suggest swapping back to the other gun and just buying more ammo. If you're having trouble putting funds together, just do a couple of runs in the caverns and pick up gems. You will easily make enough money selling them at the shops to make up the cost for ammunition.

this.... to be honest, with the difference of the gun stats, you should have noticed no difference in killing. but. sometimes certain guns just dont react well on grid. 10 is plenty high enuff of FA to hunt in the sewers, my mystic was hunting titans with FA12 last cotd. what you need to do tho, is to put on long form battle reports. that will tell you if he is missing, or not shooting at all....

It was crazy in the cats last night. Took him in and there was one square with two ancient zombies, another with five ancient zombies, and then above that a square with three ACs and a mooncalf. Missed every single one of them.

I'll check out the long posts. See what's going on.

Thanks guys.

If someone made a common-sense guide to NPC combat (weapons, stats, tactics), it'd probably be a huge boon to new people. To this day, I can look at someone's explanation of what they set, and it'll make sense, but I never would have guessed to come to that conclusion on my own from the information in the Wiki/etc.

I tried finding it.. but I could not. But I recall, David saying that "rapid fire" would use ammo faster, but it had more chances to hit.

If I recall it correctly (and that is sketchy) the original question was in regard to why someone went through so much more 7.62x39mm ammo than the other kinds.

So I concur with Regan, I think it is rapid fire (multiple projectiles headed to a target) versus single fire, (one projectile).

But a single fire would miss every target each time? Seems like those types of guns are useless. That only rapid dire should ever be used. I'll keep testing this, see what I can come up with.
