WTF? [monique

Post by Mordechai »

The full moon looked down on the city through a cloudless night. A massive dark shadow slid slowly and silently around the perimeter of the Watchtower Market. Dressed in black leather pants, heavy New Rocks, a black silk shirt gracing his muscular chest beneath a full-length oiled skin duster, Mordechai paused at the south-west corner to listen to the monotonous, peaceful sound of the river passing by. Zodiac had said she needed some bear fangs so he had sent Melanie out scouting. The wraith could flit thru the wilderness faster and quieter than he could, searching out where the bears were feeding and report back to him without spooking them. The well endowed female had flittered back to him at the Newborough transit where he just finished obtaining a few source codes to make another script for sale. '' There are three large bears behind the Watchtower Mall'' she had said, and with a burst of speed the Brobdingnagian killer had arrived at the market a few short seconds later. Now he was at the rear of the property, ready to cross the small glade and enter the wilderness proper to begin his hunt. Mordechai was traveling light tonight, very light, his boot knives were the only weapons he carried, other than the colossal mounds of muscle that his turning had caused to grow. He had fought titan mooncalves bare handed, taking a knife to a bear fight seemed almost overkill.

His senses were expanded as far as he could, reading every scent, categorizing every sound, piercing eyes studying every flash of color or movement, as he made his way down the river bank. The killers eye's caught a flash of movement, just as a faint scent of turpentine met his nose. Freezing in place he waited. His eyes picked out the form of a young female sitting on the bank of the river, watching the currents and eddys as they swept by her. Reaching out with his mind a wave of his power caressed her, relaying back to him that she was a vampire. The information continued filtering into him, she was an allurist, of the Grigori line. Turning his head he continued on heading towards the deeper woods where Melanie said the bears were. He had no fight with the Grigori, and he had never seen this female before. He would continue his hunt and leave her undisturbed to her musings. The scent of bear came to him. Bending low the killer swept the twin knives from their sheaths and crouched in preparedness as he sought his target with all of his senses. There, straight ahead, a bit to the right. Suddenly a shot rang out, was someone else hunting his bear? Almost as an afterthought he reached to the tail of his coat, he had felt it tug slightly. Mordechai's finger slipped through a small hole. What.The.****. Someone had shot at him. Spinning he followed the scent of cordite backwards till he saw the Grigori girl. Now standing, facing him, with a smoking gun in her hands...

It was nights like these that the female allurist liked to sit by the river and think. She often took refuge in her customary spot behind the Grigori-owned Watchtower Market. Consisting of several large rocks suitable for sitting or laying on situated almost upon the bank of the river, it was a hidden gem that most overlooked which was fine by her. Monique had stumbled upon it during the early construction of the Market when the unstable rubble from the ruins was being removed. She would often come to observe and note the progress, but it wasn't until the night she met up with Kole that she had found her hideaway. They had discussed the gift she had given him - a book on video games - and she had revealed that her and Calix had been on a couple dates while they had been on a break. While she had expected some sort of reaction from him, she hadn't expected him to state that then the two of them should go on a date or two. That had been the beginning of a rather interesting time.

The full moon found her leaned back against the rocks staring off across the river. Occasionally, her gaze would turn to the river with its eddys and currents frolicking against the branches and other natural debris that floated upon its surface. Lost to her thoughts, she mindless chose small pebbles to skip across the water at random intervals. There was much for the small blond to consider these nights. Her marriage to Calix had done well for her, but it was one of the few positives in her life. Kole was gone, leaving her a damned fortune she would have happily traded plus some for his return. It was something that would haunt her and he husband for eternity in some fashion. Grigori was.... interesting, to say the least and the cause for her current musing.

The slight rustle of the leaves and snapping twigs reached her ears, pulling her completely from her musing. It was atypical for anything or anyone to be out here this late in the night. The wildlife that roamed the wilderness rarely, if ever, ventured this way. Most humans or vampires went north instead of into the trees at this point because of it. No, usually, the female was very much alone on these nights. Silently, she stood, wiping her hands on her black knee-length skirt to remove the stray bits of moisture from them. Patting her side, she could feel the familiar shape of her knife through the fabric of her blue tunic shirt. While she preferred her blades, she was wise enough to know in these situations they weren't as useful

Reaching down, she retrieved her gun from the ground where she had placed it earlier, just in case, as trying to draw it from her sitting position would have been too slow to be of use. Stalking quietly towards the noise, she kept her weapon at the ready given she was unsure what or whom had caused the disturbance. Most would think the blond insane for doing so, but she valued her privacy and wanted to make a point to any intruders upon it. Her eyes narrowed as spotted a bear in the distance. Taking careful aim, knowing that at this distance even if she were to hit it, the bullet wouldn't kill it and she wasn't cruel like that. Instead, she chose a spot nearby the animal, hoping to scare it off before gently squeezing the trigger.

She was completely unprepared to see a rather tall man turn to stare at her. Gulping softly, she let her senses reach out to him as slipped her weapon back into its holster. There was no sense in pissing him off further or giving him the impression he was the target. He was certainly a vampire. ****. A killer at that, which explained his immense height. Well... ****. Sangue was not a family she was particularly familiar with, though its parent line Worthington she had at least heard of. Doubly so. She slowly approached him, keeping her hands well within view and away from her person. Stopping a bit of distance away, though within easy hearing range, she finally spoke, "Sorry..."

Mordechai watched as the woman put away her weapon and approached him. Definitely not the brightest crayon in the box, as marie often said when describing others... but to shoot at him, and miss, then put away your weapon and walk closer to him? Definitely not the brightest. The killer's onyx orbs trace her every movement. As she stops and opens her mouth, Mordechai surges forward faster than even vampiric eyes can follow. One hand encircles her throat, as the other rests just below her ribs, need just a thought to send razor sharp claws deep into her chest. ''You shot at me. You shot at me and thought I would just stand there?." Though low and gravelly the voice was without intonation, no stress, no emotion, almost as though he were reciting a script from rote. Pausing as he waited for an answer, the silence of the wilderness unbroken except for the gurgling of the river, and the slight wheeze of the females breath, as she tried to balance on her toes. Continuing on in the same monotone, he added more questions. ''What did you hope to achieve if you had hit me? Who hired you to attempt this?'' A slight shake accompanied each question. Not sure he could trust anything the Grigori ***** did say, Mordechai thrust his mind into her conscious reading her memories, looking for signs of conspiracy. Some where there would be signs of who had masterminded this attempt on hos life. Surely she could not have decided on her own and acted independently, there must be a puppet-master somewhere.

The allurist squeaked softly as the large hand wrapped around her throat with his other on her as well. She hadn't seen him move which made him exceptionally deadly for a man of his size. It also told her in some small part of her brain that he was definitely older and therefore much more powerful than she. Of course, she didn't need her powers to know he was a killing machine - his presence and aura was enough for that.

The lack of emotion in his voice threw the relatively petite woman off-guard given most were typically hysterical after being shot at. It was yet another sign that this male was powerful and deadly. There was no need to extend her mind to his to see what he was thinking, never mind that it would be a downright stupid idea. Ok, granted walking unarmed towards the man was probably the second insane mistake of the night, but she wasn't the type of woman to run away from her mistakes. She attempted to shake her head in reply to his question pairing it with a soft verbal response as well. "Absolutely not, no. I didn't mean to shoot you."

She bit her lip, quietly contemplating just how much trouble she was in this time. The silence before his next question was deafening with the young woman blocking out everything except the man in front of her. Given the placement of his hands and the fact he had her balancing on the tip of her toes, she wasn't likely to forget his presence. Though, at the moment, she was silently taking the mandatory ballet classes keeping her from looking completely incompetent. "Nothing," she replied shakily, given his none-too-gentle shakes, "No one." She blushed slightly, "I was aiming just off target from the bear hoping to scare it off."

Her answers were, of course, completely honest, but she wouldn't be surprised if he had or was currently delving through her memories. She wasn't worried about those, known her recent actions wouldn't call much into suspicion. Aside from working at Archer Artistics and the couple rituals she had done, most of her time lately was spent planning their wedding or just spending time with the family. All in all, quite boring, at least she hoped.

Shaking his head the massive killer released the female. Looking around the clearing he realized that after the shot, and ensuing commotion, there would be no other bears left in the area. ''You make a habit of just firing live rounds off into the woods, without caring what is there?'' Mordechai still wasn't sure if he could believe that she had not been trying to hit him, the shot was so close. She had no reason to fear the bear, there was almost no vampire that he knew of that couldn't rip a bear apart with their bare hands. Yet she thought it smart to just shoot randomly....The disgust showed on his face, ''Did no one teach you anything before they let you out of your cage with a firearm? Or are you just special, rules don't apply to you, some kinda princess or something?'' The trip through her memories had showed nothing. First and foremost was some kind of ******** about a wedding. The wedding thoughts clouded all else. It was typical training, any one that had any SERE training at all knew to cloud your thoughts with some innocuous ********. You would begin to believe it yourself, and the more you believed it, the more likely the enemy was to believe it. Mordie was no beginner at this however. He had had all the training himself. Except he had had it long ago and had had many years to perfect its technique, and to know what to look for when he was on the other side of an interrogation. '' Your memories show nothing, except babble about a wedding. Save your breath, I know you are just going to go on and on about how you were sitting out here making plans, and just happened to fire off a shot so close to me that you perforated my coat... '' Drawing up to his full height he stepped closer to her. '' Why don't you show me just how real that wedding is? I will be expecting an invite'' Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a card reading 'midknight armaments' and handed it to her. ''That address will suffice. Oh yeah, make it a plus one...'' Only an idiot would go to such a possible trap alone, and Mordechai's mother raised no idiots. ''If this is a sham, know that i will hunt you, and all that you hold dear....''

She took a small step backwards after she was released. Eyeing him warily as he looked around, she rubbed her now sore neck. Stifling a snort, the blond shook her head, "Of course not. Then again before tonight, I've always been the only person around here at this hour." He must really think she was a typical dumb blond if he thought she actually didn't care about such things. Or crazy, perhaps, given there were probably some whack jobs around that would do such things.

This time she did snort at his question, "Hardly a princess." He didn't even know the half of it. There was no way in mortal life or now that that term or any of the sort applied to the allurist. "And aside from showing me how to pick up, aim and fire, which was well once well over 7-8 years ago, easily and while I was still mortal... No, no they didn't teach me anything about guns. The only reason I learnt what I did was a cop friend wanted me to be able to defend myself if some guy got violent." She shook her head, "Christ, before I ended up like this, I didn't even own a damn gun. I hate the things."

Monique just stared at him as he spoke of her wedding and made his insinuations. Taking the offered card, she glanced at it briefly before tucking it into her pocket. His comment about it being a sham earned a growl from the petite female. "Don't worry," she hissed, "I'll make sure you and your plus one get an invitation. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that disrupting the event won't be tolerated, but if you have issues with Altaire or Andras, you might not want to attend." She was positively seething that he would suggest such a thing as being a cover or some pretend do-da. The truth, of course, was that she was very happily bonded, exceptionally so. There was to be a secondary wedding as a renewal of vows and a celebration with the family; that was definitely no lie and was something she looked forward to. "As you're aware, I'm certain, I'm already bonded to my chosen mate. Blissfully so but there will be a wedding. I'd give you a date to pencil into your schedule, but I haven't quite decided yet. Before the end of the year for certain." She glared at him a moment, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "Unless, of course, that doesn't suit you."

What was the term that the humans he employed used all the time.... ahh yes, Butthurt. It appeared as though the female was...butthurt. Mordechai shook his head as he looked down on her. ''well, if your male wont teach you, and your family doesn't care if you survive, you best hang on to that card. After the 'wedding' give us a call, we employ one of the best weapons masters in the city.'' Pausing he turned to face the city, then looked back over his shoulder, ''Me.'' the rustling of windswept leaves falling back to earth, the only evidence of his passage as he left.
