Proficiency Questions

Since the suggestions thread was locked, can't really ask questions there.

Can someone explain why Streets and Criminal proficiency are Charisma based? I can be a total doucher and be a great criminal or know how **** goes down on the streets.

I was going to up those to 3 for Mad b/c I've written her from the start as a former gang member who majority of her income comes from criminal activities for over a decade of her history. Yet, she's purposefully as charismatic (or less than) a rattlesnake that's been stepped on. I'm disappointed that I need to up a stat that doesn't fit my character for a proficiency or two that I don't feel most heavily relies on that particular stat.

It's not streets and criminal proficiency, it's streets etiquette and criminal etiquette. So it sounds like it would be appropriate for your character for her not to have the etiquette proficiencies.

pretty much that.

LOL

I learned that with Enver. Could only go to 3 levels before his charisma wasnt high enough in some places.

From the update:

You cannot upgrade your proficiencies beyond a certain point, if you have a low key skill in that area. Knowledges (academic) require intelligence, skills require skill stat, and etiquettes require charisma.

1 star = minimum of 8 in key skill
2 star = 13
3 star = 18
4 star = 23
5 star = 28

I'm running on an hour and a half of sleep and everything I've tried writing, by the time I read it again, I've lost myself so I'm gonna give up trying at the moment.

I think the tl;dr version of what the end result probably would have been (cuz I don't see it getting changed from Charisma) would be that it would be nice for there to be something for Criminal Knowledge and Street Smarts that's not based on Charisma but more intelligence based or a skill based criminal proficiency (outside of Stealing).

And I'm disappointed that there's no technology based proficiency or ... crud, I forgot what other thing I was looking for that would have been cool.

>.<

I know David was trying to avoid overlap between Grid Skills and Proficiencies. There's probably no "tech" skill because there's already Mechanics and Hacking.

But there's so much more to technology than knowing how to hack a computer system and being able to put something together mechanically.

Arguably there's a lot more to "biology" than "biology", but I think the goal is to paint with broad brush strokes. I mean, hell, we have ONE "linguistics proficiency" instead of individual languages.

:)) As someone doing their masters in 'biology', yes. That's about as specific as 'food'.
