Fort Wayne, Indiana / St. Louis, Missouri

Post by Madison »

I'm tagging along with some friends this weekend (they're following a band and I'm just along for the ride) and I was curious if anyone was nearby either of these two places.

Not looking to meet-up (though that would be cool too) but more along the lines of cool places to check out. I'm only going to be in each city one night each and I prefer to do low-cost things (cuz I'm a broke college student).

So if you live there or have been there and know of some awesome scenic views, thrifty stores, antique places, cute coffee shops or diners, the info is much appreciated!

I'll be in Fort Wayne tomorrow afternoon/evening and St Louis on Sunday. :)

Thanks!

Yeah, I'm aware of how to use Google but I've had better times when I get feedback from people who live in the area versus slogging through Google to see things that might be interesting.

This is always true in my case. I do searches online as well, but it's always those hidden away gems that only the locals know about that stand out as the best memories from trips I have taken. :)

My time in St. Louis was short lived as I was on a weekend pass from the base, but...

Check out the Arch (duh) take a river boat ride on the Mississippi, or a horse drawn carriage ride along the river. If you're old enough, check out the river boat casino's (don't even have to gamble). And if you're feeling risque, go to the tattoo shop on Olive St. (can't remember the name) they do some quality work there.

Have fun!

I've found both can be quite rewarding. There are quite a few things to do in my own city that I've found online.

I google "Free things to do in Auckland" to this day :)

Enjoy your days away.

I live in Missouri but I've only been to St. Louis once, on the way to Kentucky for a school thing back in high school. The only thing we stopped to do was visit the Arch. We rode through the Arch, that was pretty cool.

Missouri Botanical Garden. $8
If you like animals there are a few farms where its free to go there, one charges for parking though.
There's the zoo, most of the shows are like $4

I travel through St Louis en route from my home to my family.

Arch is cool, especially on a clear day. There is a lot of road construction in the area, so check the website for updated information.

They have a good zoo and museum. Same area as the Botanical Garden. The Butterfly house is cool too.

Fun restaurants
*Blueberry Hill... also has live music. In U-City area. Fun stores in that area too
*ted Drewes.... frozen custard. really good!
*McGurks Irish Pub.... also has live music

I use to live near Fort Wayne, Indiana about 2 years ago. Sorry I didn't see this sooner but:

Half Price Books This place was one of my favorites. If you ever happen to be back there this is a place to go if you love books!

Plato's Closet The kids and I use to love going shopping here. Great finds!

[urlhttp://www.discreplay.com/]Disc Replay[/url] One of my absolute favorites for finding unusual movies not normally found in other places and cd's as well. Old, working game systems (and new one too) like Atari's and such. It's really an interesting place.

If you have the time to travel outside of Fort Wayne, some of my favorite chinese restuarants where:

Great Wall
Golden Buddha
They have this little shop attached, forget the food there it's Eh.. but the shop has a bunch of great things. I bought a $400 rare 4 foot vase (authentic from the markings on the bottom, not a mass produce) from them for $80... of course it took months of watching the price drop but it was a beauty!
Dragon Express

Some more attractions would be the:
Black Pine Animal Park
The Lincoln Museum
Fort Wayne Children's Zoo
Fort Wayne Museum of Art
Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory
Science Central
Jefferson Pointe
Fox Island County Park and Nature Preserve

Anyway there is a few perhaps next time you are in Fort Wayne you can hit up.
