<Grey> Grey was at the tail end of slaying Zombies. Her hair was pulled back into a braid, her shirt was coated in guts and blood and the denim of her jeans was shellacked to her thighs. She had felt like every time a Zombie sprayed itself, it was always on her.
She wasn't a huge woman. She wasn't a tall woman, either. In the ruined work boots she wore, she came up to about five feet seven inches. She had blood smeared across her face and the broadsword was strapped to her back. Grey slowly had started to prefer the guns that Jesse and Brock had supplied her over the sword. There was something much more brutal about a gun. The damage it could inflict versus the slice of flesh and the gush of blood. With a deep breath, she let the Zombie fall at her feet in a lump of groaned out bones.
Why, it was just a couple days ago she had recognized those of Andras in the Flats. She had put some cash down to the bartender and asked that a few drinks be delivered. It was just a nod of recognition, really. However, she was starting to feel tired. Or she was moving slower than the Zombies. Just as she went to put her gun away, she felt a zing to her shoulder. She wasn't even paying any attention really to those around her. With her eyebrows drawing together in confusion, the pain started to spread out from her right shoulders and her lips fell open in a soundless cry. The blood started to soak into her shirt and she looked quite confused.
<Darnell> He had been wandering about the flats, dressed in loose jeans and a tank top, spattered in guts and gore. Every now and again, he'd send drinks to those he thought he recognized, then he would shower and change before cozying up to his man. And it was the thoughts of his man that had him preoccupied as he moved about, day dreaming.
Well, day dreaming until he tripped over one of the tacky, fake Persian rugs that littered an other wise impressive mahogany floor. He felt more than heard his gun go off as he righted himself and kicked savagely at the carpet. He then looked around to see if any damage had been done, and that was when he saw her, a tiny slip of a thing compared to his 6' 6" frame, and she was looking rather shocked.
Darnell couldn't help but think he had shot her. Oh ****! He. Had. Shot. HER! He rushed over, babbling apologies like an idiot, feeling about two inches tall as he looked her over. "I am so so so sorry!" He gushed, hands flailing nervously.
<Grey> She took a deep breath. With her dark hair pulled back and away from her face, there really was no way that Grey could even duck her head and hide the pain that blistered over her face. It was true, that bullet wounds took a little getting used to. Zombies just shuffled around, lurched themselves forwards towards their targets, and bit. And of course, they had some power being their jaws, sinking their teeth into Grey's legs or arms if she got them too close in the scuffles.
But for the moment, Grey certainly seemed to be taken aback. She lifted her chin and looked at this giant that had pushed himself up off the ground and towered towards her. "Oh. Well... Did I make you upset?" She was curious. Because, she knew... Or at least Jesse had said if you even so much as look at some of their kind in these parts that you get put on their **** list really quickly. So, Grey wasn't sure if she even upset the man.
Her eyes narrowed briefly, as if trying to recollect if she looked at him wrong or if she had done something to offend him. Maybe he didn't like the drink she had sent to him a while back, having recognized him as a member of Andras. Her bones of her shoulder crunched together, and she wasn't quite sure if the bullet had went through and through. She took a moment as the blood gushed from her wound to try and look over her shoulder to see if it had an exit point.
<Darnell> "No! Not at all!" He gushed apologetically. "I am a clumsy idiot. I tripped over that tacky fake Persian rug." He placed a well manicured hand over his heart and made soft noises in his throat. "I really am sorry!" He said, reaching out to her with out thinking, he peered at the wound while pushing the power of inspiration in to her, trying to make amends. "I think I grazed you."
He sighed softly, chocolate eyes shiny, but he vowed not to cry or he would ruin his makeup. Biting his lip, he drew out his wallet and extracted a handful of bills. "I insist you let me pay for a new shirt. And I have a human you can bite. I will bring him here." He took a breath and looked at her mournfully. "I really am sorry." He said, pressing the bills in to her tiny hand.
<Grey> Grey's face screwed up. This man was towering over her, waving his hands, and telling her things about a tacky Persian rug and the bullet wound being a graze. No, she was sure it wasn't a graze. Not the way that her shoulder was oozing. The nerves were still screaming and the look on his face was one of horror.
She couldn't decide what felt worse, the fact that he was so distraught or the fact that she just stood there holding a palm full of hundreds that now had her blood dried on them. "Oh. Oh, goodness. No. I couldn't accept this." She lifted the bills back up, shoving her fistful of cash at him. "It was an accident. Right? I mean... You didn't even mean to shoot me. I mean. I don't even really know your name!" Not, of course, that such a thing actually mattered.
Grey just kept shaking her head. "No, I don't need your human." They had humans? Who had humans?! He sounded like he kept one as a pet one would keep as a dog or a cat. She frowned, looking even more confused as her body sort of burned even more. She rolled her shoulder, trying to get him to take the bills. "Please, no. Oh, goodness. I couldn't bite your human! No. That... No." Grey seemed slightly confused, but then again - it had been a long day and she was already almost at her wits end. This just pushed her over while she felt the tingling around the wound and a little refreshed. It was odd. All, so very odd when she didn't feel her eyes drooping.
<Darnell> He got down on his knees so he could be eye level with her and gently closed one giant hand around her small one. "Please, I insist you keep the money. And really, if you want to bite my human it's the least I can do. I was careless." He paused and looked at her from beneath his long lashes. "I'm Darnell El-Sayed." He said by way of introduction.
"Zakar is my sire. Micah, I guess he's like my grandsire or something. And this is not how I wanted to meet new people." He sighed and gave her his best puppy eyes. "Please keep the money? It really is the least I can do."

<Grey> Grey certainly seemed a little out of her element. Why was he so large? She no longer had to kink her neck up so high and seemed to gulp. This man could knock her over with one big pat on her shoulder. She shifted a bit, knowing that she wasn't the most knowledgeable of Vampires here lately. Of course, she was still learning. She was new. Hence, the reason behind her struggles with the Zombies and the Flats being her home away from home.
She could sense that this man was being genuine. And she felt that he truly had meant no harm. She frowned, nodding as he spoke. "Okay. But... I mean, it was a mistake. You didn't do it on purpose." He said that much, at least. Grey liked to think that had she deserved it he wouldn't have apologized about the act.
"I'm Grey. Jesse Fforde's childe. He's away right now. Well, he was here earlier. I mean... " She stopped speaking, taking a moment to look over her shoulder for her lover. She swallowed hard, turning those bright blue eyes back to Darnell. "It's nice to meet you... Even though not quite this way. Jesse said he'd be back in a bit. Really. It will heal." She tried to reassure the man in front of her on his knees. She gently clasped his upper arms, trying to urge him to his feet. Why did some grow so ... big? "Really... It's okay."
<Darnell>He climbed to his feet at her urging, then took one dainty hand and bowed over it with a flourish, pressing his lips gallantly to the back of her hand before releasing it. "The pleasure is all mine, I assure you. And no, this is not how I would want to meet any one either." His question startled a rumbling laugh out of him.
"Some? I assume you mean Vampires?" He asked with a grin. "I don't know. I was this size when Zakar turned me. We grow big in the south."
<Grey> Her smile seemed to grow upon her lips, turning up despite the pain. Of course, the nerves still had a hum to them, her fingertips tingling while he took ahold of her hand. She gave his a bit of a squeeze before he kissed the back of her flesh. "It's alright. I mean, no one intents to shoot a friend on purpose. So long as I didn't upset you..." That really would be brutal. Grey didn't intend to pick fights unless there was a particular reason to.
There was a bit of a nod. "The south? From where, exactly?" Grey seemed interested now. She perked up just a bit, seeming to have enough energy to keep her train of thought upon the growing conversation while she hugged her arm against her side.
<Darnell> "Oh all over really. I was shuffled around from foster home to foster home." He grinned at her and planted a hand on his hip. "Never knew who my father was, but mother wasn't no great shakes. State took me away and shuffled me from family to foster homes and around"
<Grey> "Sounds like you were lucky. Some of them aren't the best though." That much, Grey knew. She shifted her weight upon her legs and would have tried to dry her hands on her already Zombie gut covered jeans. She sent Jesse a quick message. She'd be late. Turning her attention back up to Darnell, a squint took over her face. "Someone told you right, though. Manners n' all."
<Darnell> "That would be my granny. She had no tolerance for ill behavior." He dug in to the pockets of his jeans and pulled out a clean silk handkerchief and offered it to her. "I hope I'm not keeping you from any thing."
<Grey> "Oh, no. I couldn't take that." Grey had already taken the healing that he had issued to her. She also took the money that he had shoved into her hand, not coated with a little bit of smeared blood. She bit her lower lip, politely declining his offering of the clean cloth. "You've done more than enough. But, maybe I should get going. Jesse's probably going to start to wonder where I am." The man has been on her about feeding. She barely had enough energy left to stalk a human now.
<Darnell> He nodded, worry filling his dark eyes. "You sure you don't wants a nibble of my human? It really is okay. And I feel like I owe you so much more."
<Grey> "No, my goodness, no. This will heal." She lifted her shoulder, the wounded one. It was a mistake and Grey tried to ignore the pain. The grimace was upon her face however, and she gave a tense smile to cover it. "Shopping will be worse than this bit of irritation, I promise you."
<Darnell> He made a tsking noise and shook his head. "Oh honey, I love to shop. I am very much looking forward to it."
<Grey> "Hah!" The sarcasm was out of her mouth before she could stop it. There was a deep breath. A look crossed her face as if she were confused by her own mouth. Of course, she pursed her lips soon after that and managed a hesitant smile. "Well, I wish I could say the same. Horror. It's horror. I'll have to give you a warning ring when I'm ready to spend your money!
Grey certainly gave a pat to her pocket where the folded up bills were located, and she adjusted her bag as she felt the hairs at the back of her neck raise. Yes, realization that Jesse was stalking towards her caused those bright blue eyes of hers to look away from Darnell. "Thank you again." She said quietly to the man that caused her newest wound.
<Darnell> He looked over his shoulders and his perfectly lined eyes widened in worry before he looked back at the tiny woman. "You're welcome." He lowered his voice and gazed at her. "Who's that and why does he look like death incarnate?"
<Grey> "That's my lover." She said as she watched the pale skinned, almost slightly gaunt appearance of her lover stalk towards her. He was dressed in black, covered in tattoos, and looking unhappy. Grey smiled. He had that fire in his eyes that she loved. "It is my Sire, Jesse Fforde. He can seem a little ... blunt. Abrupt." She warned Darnell as her Sire stalked through the throngs of people in the Flats, the undead parting for him.
<Darnell> He shifted slightly, looking from her to him and back. His hands hooked in to his belt loops, then fell to his sides. "Maybe I should go..."
<Grey> "Might be a good idea. He doesn't look happy." She murmured quietly, her hand instinctively lifting to her shoulder. Oh, she didn't need protection from her lover. But, Darnell might. She nodded to the man who gave her that eye contact once again. "I'll give you a ring and maybe ask your opinion on a shirt or two." Grey, of course, was capable of picking out her own clothes. However, it seemed that she felt obligated to include Darnell, even if it was his money he willingly gave her for the damages done.
<Darnell> He nodded and took a half step back, giving her a small bow before turning on his heel and booking it for safer company. "I look forward to it." He managed to get out before he fled.
<Grey> Not even bothering to wave, she just watched Darnell's instinctive retreat. Turning her eyes up to Jesse's approach, she gave the man a bit of a smile. He was quick. He had always been quick when she needed him. Reaching her uninjured arm out, it was a greeting of sorts. While she said good evening to her lover, Grey couldn't help but think of the bit of regained energy and what she planned to do with it now that Jesse was there.
