Free Online Courses....

So, I am in school working on my Masters of Education, currently. In doing so, I was able to see a speaker- Daphne Koller (a professor at Stanford) about this new initiative where top universities from all over the world are offering a variety of courses for FREE to anyone in the world. It isn't a degree program, obviously, but...if you are working in a certain field or would like to start in one, you can use these certificates from taking these classes as a good place to start or to get promotions, etc.

The classes are like other online courses- 6 weeks long, you have tests and assignments to turn in, you are graded on your work, and receive a certificate at the end of it, should you pass it. You watch video instruction and can work on your own schedule. You can take 1 or as many as you like from the offered classes, there is no limit.

Just thought I would throw it out there to anyone interested. I thought it was pretty neat and they have a lot of great courses in different fields.

Yeah, I had never heard of it either, but had to do an entire research paper on this topic and found it incredible. Definitely needs more advertising! Her lectures were also great to listen to.

There's also EdX, which is a similar sort of thing to coursera. I've been taking some of their courses and they've been good stuff. Some are six week deals, some are more relaxed timetables.
