Curse Coward Question

Not sure if it fits David or not so wanted some thoughts on it.
Says: You run from fights wherever possible, and you rarely stick your neck out for anyone.

Now I think David doesn't do fighting and for the most part tries not to get into them, yet he will and has taken his hits. The duel with Nix for his mouth (though he insisted on no death) and then Ripper and him dueling to the death when he knew both times he stood zero chance.

I think in his case he rather sway human/vampire to do his fighting not due to being scared but due to the knowledge he sucks at fighting. Thus the most he will do in most cases is kiss someone once he's sure they can't hit him. Which does and has gotten him in trouble. Yet would that make him a coward or would that make it that he just doesn't go out of his element?

I don't really believe it would be considered cowardice given he instigates, knowing someone can beat him up for it. He knew both chances that he was going to possibly die or would die, and he stood there rather than run away or try to get out of it in any way.

I agree with Every. Plus I think he would stick his neck out for his family if he thought it could help. David isn't a coward. Just a wacko. :P A coward would never go into a duel with someone that they knew ahead of time they had no hope in hell of winning against.

What they both stated.

Though I wouldn't say he goes out of his way to cause problems (as to me he's sort of a fool/joker type) but regardless he has as you yourself stated gone into duels knowing that either he would die (as in with Ripper) and that was the plan or taken his licks (As with Phoenix) also he has stuck his neck out, yes he assures that they can't smack him right away but at the same time you always have expected them to hit back for those things (even though it's meant normally as a joke).

So no I wouldn't say Coward just knowing his strength and weaknesses. Besides it's an Allurist trait to be able to sway vampires/humans to hit someone so I don't really think that would COUNT.

Just to offer a different point of view..

If could be how David feels about himself.. not what others think about him.

If David knowingly starts **** and then doesn't fight.. David himself could think he is a coward because of that behavior.. People that are not privy to David's inner most private thoughts may never know that David views himself as a coward. It could be a long seated view stemming back to some childhood incident of David's; that as he has gotten older has skewed his views about himself.

The 'curse' is a curse of the character allows it to be a curse, in my opinion. I see some of the curses as being help more than a curse.

No. He wouldn't see himself as a coward just not stupid enough to get into a fight he'll be useless in. That's getting in the way. Mind you when he has done anything outside of those two duels. He has used humans and vampires to hit his target for him and/or when looks like he's gonna get hurt will try to make it so they can't.

He is a jester of sorts. A man who doesn't mean any harm only enjoying his life. He can and does hold grudges and will for a long time (years even). Yet a couple have said he IS a coward and it's because he won't go out of his way to fight and as such isn't sticking his neck out for them.

I think having a guy who while human had laws and back up and so on at his call still thinks in that way. There are others who have the shields and crap he hides behind them and if at the end then and only then does he stick his neck out and his chances are not gonna be good.

Which could be read as a coward but I am just not positive on it.
