Lia: [text] I'm sorry I upset you yesterday.

Doc: *text* You did not upset me. I was angry with myself. And not in the frame of mind to be polite.

Lia: [text] Are you alright now?

Doc: *text* I am not as angry. However, I have come to the conclusion I am going to have to do some thinking.

Lia: [text] About…

Doc: Doc read the text and he wants to answer. He had to make an effort to stop and not answer. After a moment, he replied but not as he would have originally. *text* Trust.

Lia: [text] Doc... if you changed your mind I will understand.

Doc: *text* I would be lying if I said if i said anything other than, I am unsure.

Lia: [text] Okay. Then I'll give you some space. I'm here if needed, though.

Doc: He thought he should feel relieved, but he didn't. *text* Thanks.

Lia: [text] Of course... I'll see you around, Doc.

Doc: Doc read it, uttered, "****." and threw his phone across the room.

Lia: Lia didn't want to say those things; what she was feeling was completely different from the calm demeanor she'd showed in those texts. But she understood what it felt like to finally be rid of someone you'd spent so much of your time on, someone you'd tried so hard to make happy. She'd be supportive, even if her heart sank. Before she could change her mind, she deleted evidence of Doc's messages and shoved her phone away. She needed a distraction. After tucking a few knives into her boots and grabbing her sword from beneath the coffee table, she left for the sewers. She needed blood on her hands.

Doc: Doc had done some soul searching over the last few days. He had weaknesses. No liked to think they had a weakness.. much less more than one. He found it hard to walk away from a dare, which is how he got into the ******* situation in the first place. But he also had a weakness for women. He wanted to be their lover, protector, soul mate. And this weakness was worse than the dare or challenge weakness. It wasn't love.. it was the sense of of being in that position of being the go-to guy. The guy that would fix it. Make it better. Destroy what needed destroying.. but ultimately this ended up burning him more than anything. Females wanted that protector, until they grew bored. Or until he said that one thing that pissed them off and then they shunned him. But was it just him? Or all men?

Lia: Lia skewered the first paladin that she saw, right through the chest with her blade. The steel glimmered with blood, which trickled slowly to the nasty ground in a pool of red. She liked that sound; it was like rain... calming. The corpse slumped to the ground in a heavy heap, at which point the woman bent her knees to kneel beside it and procured a knife from her boot. She used the point of entry from her blade to create a larger opening, tearing the blade through thick flesh with a sickly sound. Her hands pried apart the ribs like they were chicken bones, until finally she could dip into the warmth of the hunter's chest and curl her fingers around the still-twitching heart. Tears ran down her face as she gave a sharp twist, yanking the muscle out of its vessel and watching as the harder she squeezed, the more still it became. Lia used the back of a bloody hand to wipe angrily at her face. She didn't understand how all the men she'd ever fallen for in life were so unsure of what they wanted. Parker flat out beat the **** out of her to prove that she wasn't good enough for him, yet was so possessive when she would try to get away. Cai... it took that man two years to realize he was never going to love her the way she needed. And now Doc. The ******* ********. He was the best of them, no matter how broken or fucked in the head. He understood her. And she wasn't good enough now, either. Her fingers dug into the fleshy muscle until it burst in her hand, leaving blood trickling down her arm in rivulets.

Doc: Doc raked a hand through his hair, and forced himself to calm down. He wanted to text her, and ask her exactly what she meant by 'see you around'. He got a decidedly uneasy feeling when he had read that. like she was symbolically saying '**** you Doc'. Especially he thought back to how Cytherea could smile at him and say she thought it was great he was In Tytonidae, only now nine ******* months later, he finds out she hated Tytonidae and everyone in it. So was this Lia telling him, 'see you around..' or was this her saying, '**** you'? He crossed across the room picked up his cell. The screen was shattered, but it still worked. He wanted to say it didn't matter. He wanted to say he told the truth when he said he was unsure about what the **** to do. He was ******* unsure. He needed a clear head, before he did anything that he or she, would regret later. And hell if he wasn't already regretting telling her the truth. Maybe he should have just ******* lied to her. Told her 'Baby its cool.. you and me..' and let it blow the **** up in his face later. He stared at the shattered screen reading her words once more. Hell. **** it all. He was going to ask. *text* Are you telling me to **** off Lia?

Lia: The remnants of the paladin's heart sank to the ground. Symbolic, if you ask me. As she sucked some of the blood from her fingers, she felt the vibrations of her phone in her back pocket. With a sigh, figuring that it was more than likely Elizabeth, she wiped the rest of the mess on her jeans and dug it out. She was surprised to see that it was Doc, again. Even more surprised to see what the message was. The woman shook her head and let her body rest back against the sewer wall, no fucks given about the state of the clothing she was wearing. A simple t-shirt and jeans could be replaced. After a few minutes of thinking over her response, she slid the small keyboard open and replied.

[text] No. It was my way of saying goodbye. I told you. I'm giving you space. I thought that's what you wanted.

Doc: Doc read her response and frowned. What the ****? He said he was unsure what to do, and she saying good bye? Where the hell did that come from? He started to text, but the screen was messed up and he was too impatient to carefully type the ******* words out. He called her. He waited for her to answer.

Lia: She didn't know if she could do this. Talk to him without emotion in her voice, tell him everything was fine. Nevertheless... she answered. "Hi."

Doc: "Lia.. what the ****? Did I say I wanted space? I said I was unsure. I don’t know what to ******* do.. I am bound for eternity to a ******* female who is ******* my enemy.. and you're saying goodbye?"

Lia: She flinched slightly and exhaled a breath. She counted backwards from five in her head before she took another. "If you don't know what to do, ask yourself what you want."

Doc: Doc barely repressed the urge to throw the phone again. "What do you think I have been doing?! 'oh yes, I have been watching college hoops, and I just now decided to ponder.. what I really want.." He mimicked derisively. "Don't ******* put this on me. You don't want to be dragged into this.. and you want to say goodbye.. fine. Just don't blame it on me. I have fucked up enough ..” He stopped, his tone bitter, “no.. you know what..? FINE It is my ******* fault. Everything else is. What’s one more thing right? Goodbye Lia." He hung up and then crushed the phone.

Lia: Her eyes widened as she listened to his words become angrier. Angry with her? What the **** had she done? She was trying to be supportive. Trying to give him headspace so that he could figure out what to do. Isn't that what he needed? She tried to speak up, but he just kept going. "Doc! I never said- I still want-..." She heard the click of the phone, and knew it was over. If her heart had sank before... it was on the ground now. Lia drew a gasp into her lungs and squeezed her eyes shut tightly as her fingers curled around the device in her hand, tight enough that she heard some of the pieces pop and crack in her grip. No... She refused. ******* refused to believe that this was it. She stood up and sheathed her sword, then stepped over the paladin corpse to head for the sewer exit. Hopefully, the man was in his lab, 'cause that's where she was going.

She ran. The woman didn't bother to stop and grab her bike... she just ran in whichever direction she knew was the fastest to get where she was going. She was a mess; bloody, reeking of sewage. That didn't ******* matter. Her fists pounded against his door.

Doc: Doc heard the pounding on the door. ******* Lab assistant forgot the code again. Doc yanked the door open, "How ******* hard is it to remember 6 numbers.. " he tone was blistering, as he thought he was shredding the lab assistant; the words died as he saw Lia, bloody and looking like hell. He pulled her in before she was seen. "You look like ****." He words had a distinct bite to them. He didn't let go, as he dragged her down to the hall to the ladies room. "You might want to clean up." He slammed the door as he left her in the ladies room by herself. She hadn't really looked that bad. He just needed time. Time to.. what? **** if he knew.

Lia: She'd barely opened her mouth to speak when she felt his grip tugging her in another direction. The words died on her tongue as he spoke his own, but what caught her more specifically was his tone. She scowled at him as she was shoved into the restroom, left alone with the door slammed in her face. Lia stood there, huffing and staring at the door with a glare that could have left anyone frozen where they stood. She snarled and slammed her fist into it, but pulled back just enough to keep the wood from shattering beneath her strength. A shaky sigh escaped her lips as she rested her body up against it, eyes closed. **** me, she thought to herself, finally pushing back and turning to look in the mirror. The woman frowned at her lack of reflection.

She ran one of the faucets and took a few minutes to clean the blood and sewer stench off of her arms, face and neck. She even washed the ends of her hair, before finally slamming her palm into the button on the dryer and sticking her arms beneath the warm air. As she dried off, she muttered a string of curses beneath her breath.

Doc: Doc was pacing, no.. stalking up and down the hallway. He could hear the water running, then the dryer. He still had no clue what to do.. much less what to say. His hands fisted and unfisted as he paced. She would be out soon, and he would have to face her. Face the fact that she had come to tell him to his face she was leaving. What did he want? Did he want her to leave? No. But he couldn't make any promises.. and therefore he was no ******* better than Cai who had her hanging on to him, hoping for the merest wisp of affection from him. He didn't want to be that guy! But his mind was fucked up. How fucked up, was clear when Zodiac gave him carte blanche to go ******* kill people if it helped him deal. If he was anywhere near sane, Zodiac wouldn't have done that. He stopped pacing outside the ladies restroom door. He would let her speak first.

Lia: Lia looked down at her shirt, then. That was the worst of it, because it absorbed the liquid and gunk. It was soaked. With a scowl, she yanked it over her head and balled it up before shoving it into the trashcan. At least she had a sports bra on underneath. It was something. Her hand touched the doorknob and she froze, taking a few breaths, counting backwards from ten. When she finally opened it and looked up to see him... She couldn't keep herself angry. Lia exhaled and took a step forward, letting the bathroom door fall shut behind her. "I never said anything was your fault. I never insinuated it, either. And if you think I'm walking away..." she said, waving her arms between them. "For good? You misunderstood me." She frowned.

Lia: "I'm trying to be supportive of you. You seem to forget that I've been there... Finally letting someone go when you spent so much time trying to make **** work. I know what it ******* feels like. I needed space then. I thought that's what you would want. I thought you wouldn't want me around to..."

Doc: He stared at her, in her bra and jeans as she spoke. He was frowning, his brow furrowed in angry creases as he listened. Wordlessly he shed his lab coat, and held it open for her to easily slide her arms into it. He drew an unneeded breath, it was an action of old, when he had been human, which he learned, in order to keep the emotion out of his voice. "I have been alone for months." He enunciated slowly and clearly, "Space is the last thing, I 'want'. However," his words were still slow and measured as he kept them devoid of emotion, "I am unsure if that is a good thing." He paused, "For the record, letting her go was easy, once I knew she supporting Pratt. She can **** him for eternity for all I care."

Lia: She broke the hold she held on his gaze and turned around to slide her arms into the lab coat. Her fingers wrapped around the front, pulling it around her frame as she stared at her hands. "I don't want you to feel pressed to sway one way."

Doc: "I'm angry. Not at you.. not at even at her. I am angry at myself. I believed her. I trusted her. And I look at you. And I want to trust you. I want to believe you would never do what she did to me. But, I do not want to take my anger out on you. You have done nothing to deserve it." He counted, "I am walking a tight rope to keep it in check. I slipped before.. I apologize."

Lia: Lia slowly nodded her head. She could understand that to an extent. Personally, it felt like every time she was fucked over, she just picked herself back up and ran into another shitty situation. Like she never learned, or had too much faith. "You're afraid of being betrayed again. I get it. And..." She spun back around to face him, her expression calm. "Apology accepted."

Doc: He swallowed. Her acceptance of his apology was unexpected. The frown of anger slowly morphed into one of wariness. Was this a trick? The BnC would rant for what felt like ******* hours, with him apologizing for everything from him being male,to being born, to looking at someone, before she would grudgingly accept his apology, ‘with conditions’. Always there were ******* conditions. He blinked and narrowed his eyes. “Thank you.” He wasn’t aware of it, but his voice was tentative, as if he knew the ‘conditions’ were about to be added; and he was preparing for it.

Lia: "Just try to listen to what I'm saying next time. Your paranoia gets the better of you every once in a while..." She smiled slightly, the expression just barely lifting up one corner of her lips. Slowly, she moved past him to take a seat on one of the empty rolly chairs.

Lia: "And I'm sorry, too. For assuming."

Doc: Doc didn’t hear the conditions. His gaze widened as she moved to sit on a computer chair. Was this it then? She would get comfortable and lay them out, in minute detail. His jaw clenched. He accepted the conditions from the BnC.. because, well hell.. it was just easier to keep her happy that way, instead of her ranting and going all psycho on him. He wasn’t necessarily going to accept any conditions from Lia. He almost blurted that out, when she suddenly and unexpectedly apologized. He opened his mouth, then closed it again. He crossed his arms across his chest and stared at her wordlessly, trying to figure her out.

Lia: She resisted the urge to touch some of the utensils that were spread out on the desk before her. If she knew Doc, one thing she could sense was that he didn't like anyone messing with his order. When she felt his eyes on her, however, she dropped her hand and looked over at him. When she caught that look... the one that said he was expecting something else... she frowned. "What?"

Doc: At her question, he wanted to rattle out all the thoughts and questions about all sorts of things that the BnC had always done; but taking a moment, he condensed all those questioned thoughts into two simple questions. “That’s it? Fight over?” His eyes still holding that wary look, as though he needed to be ready for round two at the drop of a hat.

Lia: Lia furrowed her 'brow at him. "Are you really sorry?"

Doc: Doc pushed off the wall. It finally dawned on him, with her question, she was just wary as he was. With the Psycho, sometimes he wasn’t really sorry. He just said it to shut her the hell up so they could to get on to the next part of the argument. Maybe when Lia and Cai had fought, Cai did the same thing. Apologized regardless of meaning it. Doc crouched beside Lia so he was looking at her eye level. “I am.” he added “I am used to more .. caustic, hurtful fights. I need to remember you aren’t her.”

Lia: Lia swallowed the lump in her throat as she looked him in the eye. Damn him for doing that to her. "Then yes... the fight is over." She smiled a little shakily and gently cupped the side of his face with her hand, leaning forward a little. "Would she have been this patient?"

Doc: "**** no.. well unless you ask her.. then she’s a ******* saint..."

Lia: She gave a short laugh and reluctantly dropped her hand. "I'm not saying I'm the most patient person in the world, but... once upon a time, you wouldn't have been able to keep me away."

Doc: Doc Took her hand and pulled Lia to her feet. “Come on.. I need to buy a new phone.. I killed my last one..” He wanted her to go with him to the store. He wanted to show her off, lack of shirt and all. He didn’t care what people thought. “You need to help me pick one out.. I am **** with technology..”

Lia: Her face took on an expression of amusement as she grasped his hand and stood. "I smell like the city's **** and look a bit like a stripper in a doctor's uniform."

Lia: "Well... minus the glitter."

Doc: "You look hot.. I will be the envy of every guy in the store.. and if anyone looks at a you funny.. I'll kill em." He would too. He led her to the door. Opening it for Lia, he allowed her to exit ahead of him.

Lia: Lia couldn't keep the smile off her face and out of her eyes, even as she shook her head at him. "As long as you think so, then." When he opened the door, she walked out into the night and waited for him.
