Cats and Dogs!

Okay so we recently got a six month old puppy. She's playful as hell and so cute and loves to chew and chew...and chew :|

We've had a cat for about two years now. She's the queen bee of the house, sometimes even acts like a dog and plays fetch.

It's getting hard for these two to get along, I'm having to break up their fights. I've got so many cuts on my hands and arms from the cat alone. I've taken Cam's advice and used a spray bottle, but that is not working so well any more. She just goes to swat at me every time I try to defuse the situation. I've even put them both in separate rooms for time out.

Does anyone have any more tips to help a cat and a dog get along?

Firstly, don't let the cat see you spray it. You want the cat to associate the water with their bad behavior not with you being near by.

Try the infuser mentioned here: http://www.sentrypetcare.com/goodbehavior/
they REALLY work.

DON"T leave them alone together for awhile. DO keep them separated and only allowed supervised interaction starting with small amounts of time and gradually increasing the length of time and the frequency.

Found you a very good article.

That was fantastic!

I've not been separating them as I've been around the house, I find the puppy lays on the sofa with me, whilst the cat sits on the stairs and come in to stare at the puppy when she pleases. They've both been shown equal love. (Jazz is my cat) Bailey (the puppy) isn't even allowed in my room, I've realized that my bedroom is Jazz's territory. So not risking that. This morning they've not been too bad a few hisses here and there, Bailey on the other had received a few scrapes yesterday so she tends to bark when Jazz gets too close -- and Jazz runs away.

I'm defo going to fav that link.
Thank you for researching for me Ally! I couldn't even find anywhere decent to read xD

Just let them take their time and don't let them stress you out. I'm sure it will all be fine. :) ~hugs~

You've also got to let them have their scrapes. They need to work out their own pecking order like any animals living together.

My kittens attack each other all the time, but it's just part of how they socialise. You just watch and listen to see how serious it is, and if it goes beyond the rough and tumble of sorting things out and becomes serious and loud, deep "AH AH AH!" Usually shocks them into breaking up. Soon as they've broken up and walked away, praise them.
