Face Mask [Jersey]

Post by Mora »

It makes no sense.

Mora scratched at her chin. It had been two week now since she had resurfaced. From whatever place she had vanished too. Her businesses had taken a hit -- she was still picking up the pieces. She had employee’s that never even showed up -- she crossed them off as fired, and sent them their respective emails. She was needing new staff, to help fill in those gaps.

Mora’s head ached, she still got headaches in waves trying to remember what happened when she was away. It bugged her that she could remember nothing -- a blank slate. Some people would consider it a blessing. Mora would, but she didn’t know what she had forgotten so it was a curse, she could have forgotten anything important.

A sigh escaped her lips then as Zara, her thrall came over and placed a hand on her shoulder.

”Mora?”
“Hmm?”
”Are you alright?!”

She shrugged.

“I’m trying to remember, but trying to remember makes me head ache.”
”Then let it come to you, stop trying to force it.”
“Maybe.” She said.

Zara was always right, she was much smarter than Sabra on so many levels. Mora nodded, and grabbed her jacket from it’s hook and walked out into the night. She needed to check the delivery of organic products she was due at Peppermint. She sighed as she played with the keys to the shop, jangling as she walked. Peppermint was in Wickbridge. Down in the 8th dimenion mall. It was the only residence available where she could set up shop.

She had given into the concept of buying more jeans easier than she had expected – preferring to save her money in attempt to get her own apartment and get out of the hotel room she’d been calling home. However, after managing to stain her jeans from spilling coffee down the front of her clothes, Peter spilling hot chocolate on one of her pant legs, and leaving a red ink pen in the pocket while she washed one, she had decided it wouldn’t kill her to wear something other than white. With two pairs of black denim over one arm, she skimmed through a pile of faded blue jeans in search of the right size.

Sliding it out from underneath a set of jeans with lace along the hip, Jersey picked up a few shirts afterwards and made her way to the cashier’s desk. Jersey had already spent half her day in the 8th Dimension Mall; she had slept in until noon, then cleaned up her hotel room quickly before going all the way out to Marsh Hill to collect Peter’s dogs for their usual walk. She’d be going back once she was finished there, enjoying the time spent with the animals and the fresh air. It had been become a routine that Jersey wouldn’t mind keeping and hoped that she would be able to do so even after finding a job.

Without any real ID – she had acquired a fake one and a few other false documents already – and a lack of an actual background, however, she figured it would be relatively difficult to impossible. There had been a few shops that she applied for, retail for the most part or sales, and had been turned down. She didn’t mind it, really. The optimist that she was simply whispered that it “wasn’t the right job for her anyway.” Paying for the clothes, she flashed the cashier a smile before leaving and headed out to look for a lotion.

The cold air had begun to make her skin dry and it was driving her nuts. On her periodic wanderings, she had found the Peppermint organic beauty supply shop to be one of her favorites after she’d been released from the hospital. Carefully making her way past a few mothers as they chatted about certain scents and how the creams helped remedy their wrinkles and other type of things, Jersey carefully crowded down to read the back of a bottle, setting her hand between her legs for balance so she wouldn’t topple over.

“I wouldn’t mind working here.” She mumbled underneath her breath, putting it away before collecting a vanilla scented lotion. Jersey loved that scent.

Mora was mere moments away from Peppermint. She entered the area where her shop was located and stifled a yawn. The woman was tired, and hungry. She didn’t have time on the way to grab a take away/ She usually lured her food, and then let them go on their merry way when she had her fill but tonight she just wasn’t giving into the thirst she felt. Mora used to be a vegetarian; she went through so many stages. She fed off vampires, before the blood made her sick and convulse. Then she fed from bags of blood but they got stale so very quickly and cold. Now she fed straight from the vein, it was quick and warm. It hit the spot nine out of ten times. Mora had a good sense of control when it came to her feeding; she was able to stop herself from killing humans, which was good considering the masquerade.

Mora opened the door to Peppermint and stepped inside waving to her employees that worked the night shifts for her. She then turned her eyes around to the shop and its small amount of customers browsing the stock on the shelves, a human. No doubt caught her attention. She happened to be eyeing a bottle of vanilla scented lotion.

”You can have that bottle, if you’d like.” She said coming up behind the woman with a warm smile on her features. Free gifts and samples was usually the best way to bring them back – allowing them to spend money. If you were a good host they’d come back. That’s what she’d learnt in businesses 101.

”Free of charge, ma’am.” She finished in case the woman in front of her thought she was taking the piss. Mora didn’t blame her. Most shop owners never gave their products away. Money was precious in Harper Rock. To the vampires that lived around this area, it was needed to buy relics, and other various things. Well, Mora enjoyed spending her profits on relics. It was… an obsession.

She didn’t hide the fact she was startled when the woman spoke behind her, her body slightly tensing with the unexpected sound while she wondered how she hadn’t noticed her coming up. Jersey’s green eyes moved over the bottle and then smiled a bit from the woman’s words, appreciating it as she stood up and turned around. She studied the bottle before reaching into her pocket for her wallet, “As much as I really appreciate the offer,” She held out the correct amount afterwards, “I can’t accept it.”

Jersey smiled warmly, turning the bottle over in hand to read the ingredients in thought, “Do...” Her pale lips pressed together before she lifted her green eyes to look at the woman curiously, “you happen to have any job openings?” Her blonde hair fell lightly over one shoulder as she adjusted her hold on the bottle underneath her arm, holding the money before tucking her wallet away into the back pocket of her jeans.

“Or know of anyone who is hiring that won’t particularly ask so many questions?” She gave a small frown, a shiver running down her back nervously. “Things are a little complicated.” The woman chewed on her bottom lip, turning lightly to look at another bottle over her shoulder. Jersey would definitely have to come in again eventually.
