Doc: Doc held the exterior lab door open to allow the lab tech easy exit with her burden of test results. He then follows her to the company car and opens the back door for her. “Once you have delivered these and gotten proper signatures, you can call it a day. I will close up here. You can take the car home with you. Just park in a secure area.” He was rewarded with a beaming smile from the petite brunette, as he then opened the driver side door for her. “Be safe.”

Having seen her off, Doc then moved to his car to collect some files, before heading back into the lab. He had a few texts he needed to run without curious eyes peeking over his shoulder. The lab assistant was quick and intelligent but she was also too damn curious by half. He needed to keep certain things out of her purview.

Dominique: Dominique was just pulling the metal tab on the top of the Monster energy drink when her attention was called to the building bold and new in front of her. She had used the station next to it several times. but had been more interested in the abandoned building next to it. Blood thieves were her focus any time she was out on the streets. They were known to carry some rare relic that would keep her from having to be dependent on a ritual to avoid feeling like near death eating a cracker. It was the only way she could describe the low energy and the fatigue that came from more than twenty-four hours passing and someone not using their magic to boost her. She was still not comfortable with a lot of it. It was all so far from what she was in her mind. Alive, breathing and running like she had everything riding on her next move. She went from battling a monster to battling herself. Confirmation everything had changed was evident every time the coolness of her otherwise healthy looking skin was felt. that really was what got to her. It was a cold reminder she lost a fight. The tall frosty black and green can came to her lips held in a colorful hand. She swallowed the bubbling liquid slowly as her big brown eyes rolled up to the roof of the building. there was no reward of satisfying flavor in what she was consuming but it was still close to the sensations she had always known so she wouldn't give it up. Everything familiar was like a security blanket for the young woman who refused to let go to the life she had to lose to truly appreciate. A pull of her wrist brought the can back down in front of her and she stepped forward to the doors. A big building had to have many things inside and being the thief now lacking the skill she had prior to kissing a ton of cement she figured why not check it out and if there was anything worth taking she would send word to those who could collect later.

Doc: Doc took his files to his office and started charting the numbers, and running the calculations. He had the results from the blood work from the paladin. Their blood was different from a normal human’s blood. Their ability to heal was ramped up as well. And at the rate paladins had been ending up in the hospital, it was only a matter of time before someone in the hospital would notice it and bring the world’s attention to it. He needed to find a plausible and unique explanation to nip this ‘discovery’ in the bud. It was not going to be easy. Pi had helped him with Porter. But they were just one other ‘Porter’ away from exposure. He knew that some young turk of a doctor would see the military implications if the abilities could be replicated and synthesized.

Dominique: Dominique reached a free hand to the door and found it simple to walk right in. She had her back to the inside as she closed the door. Her mind went through the usual gear grinding of who was she if she was asked, what was her nature of business stepping inside this place. She felt like she was missing her calling in marketing. She could make it seem like she belonged anywhere but really she felt so much the opposite. Theater perhaps was another possibility. There was a time she could be so convincing while taking something that didnt belong to her that she was actually thanked once for while the owner handed over the keys to a pricey Rolls thinking she was taking it in for a tune up. This was different though. Now it was about survival. Hers and the paladins. End goal was extermination

Dominique: of those that did not ever belong, who came uninvited and in the end it likely would be her demise at well. Either your word meant everything or nothing. She not going to deviate from what she was called to do. The dark haired woman turned slowly to face what she stepped into. It was unmistakable. Sterile tiling was beneath her feet, lab workstations, vials and equipment. She swallowed hard still holding the can in her hand. This was not at all what she expected to find. Her eyes moved slowly from one side of the massive space to the other. No sounds were noted. No one to be seen in what seemed a functional work space. One slow step of the pink Nike on her foot followed by another left a soft squeak as she moved in further. Her head inclined and her left hand went to confirm there was a master blade where she had secured it inside a pocket on the back pack currently resting over her shoulders. (done)

Doc: Doc was running the numbers and nothing was coming close to even remotely looking plausible. The results from the basic tests, were showing high percentages in enzymes that were normally miniscule. For the moment, if it reared it’s ugly little head, he would suggest that the testing equipment was most likely at fault. He started doing some research on such equipment anomalies when the security camera at the front door was triggered. Lifting an eyebrow, he immediately thought it was his assistant coming back. Had she forgotten something? He logged into the security feed, and what he saw made him stop. (cont)

There on the screen was Minx, the ex-paladin. His eyes narrowed as he stared at the screen. What the hell was she doing here, and why? Never taking his eyes from the screen, he reached under the desk and pulled the glock he kept hidden there. He expelled the magazine and glanced briefly at it make sure it was full, snapped it back into the handgun and watched the screen again. His gut reaction was to go meet her and blow her ******* head off and send her to the shadow realm, but he forced himself to be patient and not act hastily. He laid the weapon on the desktop and watched Minx on the feed.

Dominique: Another step had her looking over a desk that seemed to be organized before it was left by the user. She knew cameras likely were in place as any lab should have so for the moment she was someone off the street stepping inside. Perhaps she was looking for employment? A college grad hitting the streets to find something to get her by until she got a real internship? That was believable. Her cool hand brought the can back to her lips and took another slow drink as she went further into the sea of aseptic surfaces. Each time her eyes went from one space to another she was greeted with more of the same items. There were a lot of people not at work. A lab of the size this one appeared to be often worked around the clock. Her steps slowed as she found she cleared the massive room to find nothing else. The place was lit up so a return visit would likely be the best plan of action. The can in her hand was empty and she slid the back pack off to the side of her shoulder, unzipped the top to deposit inside then zipped it closed. It was time to head back out. Her progression across the bright lab was uneventful. One step followed by another and she was yards from the same doors she entered.

Doc: Watching her progress through the lab, was maintained by moving the feed from one camera to another. He watched as she drank her pathetic human refreshment. How she still clung to the habits of humanity. Doc’s lip curved in a distaste, at her weakness. The frown slow gave way to a smirk, as she turned to make her way back to the entrance. She thought she could come and go as she pleased with no repercussions? She was sadly mistaken. Doc turned off the camera feeds and allowed shadows to swallow him, as he made his way to quickly to the entrance to cut her off. The thrill of chase, the urge to kill was strong. He hadn’t killed anyone in weeks. He was going to enjoy this.

Dominique: Inked hands shifted the straps over her shoulders and she was near the door to leave when she stopped thinking there had to be something that she could grab that said she was there. A closer inspection without touching anything on the white desk near the door revealed nothing. She was going to be back later. there was far more to this sudden lab appearing. It was too big to pass off as insignificant.

Doc: Doc coalesced out of the shadows between her and the entrance. His outstretched arm held the glock, “Hello Minx.”

Dominique: Dominique's hair at the nape of her neck stood up. Her eyes narrowed and her hand slid from the strap on her backpack down to the side where her master blade was waiting for her to take hold. There was truth in facing the demons that plagued you. Everything else in the world stopped when it happened. The sound of his voice was taking the place of everything else. Her eyes moved up to find his. She could never forget them. She tried and she realized now the only way she would was to destroy them. The gun in his hand meant nothing to her now. She would not allow him to take from her again. Her top lip curled up in disgust. He was in the wrong place or he was up to no good at what could be a devastating project if he was allowed to continue. "This what you been up to when you aren't killing?"

Dominique: Her hand was now feeling the handle to her blade sink as comfortably as always into her grip. He would be a sore man if he made any stupid move.

Doc: Doc shrugged apathetically, “It’s a job…” He smiled fully, fangs visible, but it was not a pleasant smile. There was no warmth to it. It was not reflected in his eyes. He never took his gaze off of her. “Why are you here?” He sighed, “You had to know this was not going to end well.. miss me that much?”

Dominique: Self-absorbed as always but then again any predator was. The show of what was behind his lips did nothing for her except remind her she was glad she did not have the same appear when her lips parted. "It is a building and the doors were open for business?" She slid the blade forward. She knew he was not to be in the presence of unarmed. This was not going to end like last time. She could count every single second she had went over it in her mind. It was not something she looked for but she sure as hell was not going to allow him to intimidate her now. He did his worst and now it was her turn. "I missed you unarmed. I won't make that mistake twice." Her weapon was now visible and she was done second guessing what if.

Doc: As he heard her speaking, the look of distaste could not be hidden from his face, her self righteous bleating was typical of the paladin that she had been. “How very.. pathetic.. you still think you are one of them…” Secretly he was pleased, because all along he just wanted to kill her over and over, and her believing that she ‘fighting’ for humanity, just made it all the more enjoyable for him “So be it..” He pulled the trigger. However, he missed, as she suddenly darted out of the way. Now… the smile reached his eyes.

“So how does it feel.. being faster and better than the cattle? Hmm? Don’t pretend you don’t like it. The rush, that feeling of omnipotence.. knowing you are better and faster than they will ever be.” He followed after her.

Dominique: She was ready and was quickly on her heels spinning down then popping into the spot where he would not be aiming. His voice made her skin crawl. The truth in his words were bitter but still the truth. He couldn't change her. Not enough that she would abandon what was the only source that gave her purpose. She was a shitty human before she arrived. She took and she lied. Nothing was good out of what she spent twenty one years doing. She would make amends for it. It was time. "Pathetic would be to bend and be what you are. You are dead. You have no value. What have you done besides prey upon what God created? You have no sense of appreciation. Nothing is sacred. You consume without thought, take without need and you destroy what is good. What do you leave behind in it's place?" She was cold in her own skin, denied the ability to taste or breathe. She was in limbo and his asking if she enjoyed it reminded her once again. "I never wanted this. You sent me to hell and now it is time you get to visit it as well."

She was no quicker than before. In fact she found she could no longer evade and steal as she had done so easily before. She was weaker and she knew it but she had not lost her sense of right and wrong, good and bad. to turn her cheek and walk away would give him the satisfaction of taking what was left. She needed to do what she had failed to before. Her hand spun with her body as she moved around the space he was in, where his voice could be heard and sliced the space and darted away. Nothing appeared in the air. Her jaw tightened.

Doc: He didn’t hide the derisive sneer her words evoked. God and hell, she was blindly clinging to the human religion. She failed to grasp that religion was just some sad excuse dreamed up by Kings to keep their peasants in line. “Yes. It was never about you. I didn’t do anything -for- you. You were a toy. A distraction, that became a nuisance and a bother.”

Her blade was pulled free from its sheath and sliced toward him. Doc twisted to the side as it cut through his lab coat. He grinned, as he called forth the shadows to attack her, “Then I thought, I could end this bother easily.. but I would be without my toy.. my distraction. I knew given enough time you would come back. And then I could kill you again. And here you are.”

Dominique: The sudden slice and burn to abdomen had her gasp loudly as she jumped over a desk and landed. The black beads she had not seen in so long littered the air around her. If she hated him for what he had done she did more so now that he was in front of her showing his pleasure at all that he had done. "You are long past your expiration date!" She went at him again with the same intent hoping to sink her blade into him deeper than she ever had in the past.

Doc: Again he evaded her blade, as she swung at him, “First blood to me..” His tone held a hint of gloat to it. “I get the impression.. your heart isn’t really in this..” He was purposely trying to goad her. Make her angry. He squeezed off a couple of shots as he turned. His grin was wide as they hit their mark. “Ouch.. that’s going to sting..”

Dominique: A heavy slam of the unexpected hit her in the neck then nearly had her flying back. She whipped her hand through the air clearing the black disturbance of blood floating and went towards him and with the down sweep and then arch of her blade as she went by him everything she had went into her swing. Her past, her extinguished future, her passion and her hate cut through with her hands and she felt the give as the blade cleared his leg.
dpericulum: She moved quickly trying to get clear of his reach. (done)

Doc: "Now your heart is in it.. much better… I want you to feel like you are doing well..” His words were condescending as he grinned through the pain. He wanted her to embrace what she was now. Not because he had any sort of feelings for her.. but rather, it would make their future battles all that much more engaging. He intended to send her to the shadow realm, and if she dragged her pathetic human loving *** back to this city again, he would send her back again and again.

Dominique: She lunged back at him. He was missing a leg and she wanted the other one severed as well. He would crawl to his destination if she had her way. Crawl like he should. The air was filling with the black disturbance of her blood as she moved. She knew it was worse as the pop and burst of fire in her gut and sides sent her nearly doubling over. She lifted up and growled moving towards him with another sweep of the weapon in her hand. It failed and again his gun fired.

Doc: The pain from the severed leg radiated upward with every movement, no matter how small. His jaw clenched in the attempt to hold the pain at bay. There was something delicious however, in that pain. Mind over matter, the pain was a tool of distraction that he was determined to master. He forced the idea of pain from his mind, he raised the weapon at her. He fired at her as she lunged forward at him again with the blade. His aim was poor however, as he missed his target, yet he did manage to avoid her blade.

The next several moments were filled with attack volleys and parries. Near hits and near misses. After he lost his leg, his ability aim and focus were blunted. He missed more times than he hit, but he was successful in finally in taking her leg, which leveled the playing field. He had more experience with being absent a than she was, and he used it to his advantage. Time and again she came at him, and time and again, she very nearly got him, resulting in a scratch or cut that healed almost immediately. And while she bravely pressed forward, he chipped away at her a shot to the groin, a shot to the abdomen, a shot to her good leg, and then finally.. the coup de gras,.. a shot to her heart.

You creep up on your target and take aim.
You fire, catching Dominique directly in the heart and knocking them to the floor!
FATAL STRIKE!
Dominique collapses, dead, and disperses into ash.

Doc holstered his gun and grinned. He never got tired of that game.
